Campus & Facilities Parking Permit
When does lot 22 typically fill up by? I’m going to be an RA and I wanted to make sure it won’t run out by end of August when I purchase in person.

I'm an older student (29) that's enrolled in the UMA hybrid CS MS program. I'll be moving near campus in the spring for in person classes, but I was hoping to connect with some folks (or orgs) so I don't feel so much like a fish out of water. Maybe someone here knows of meetups going on in the central mass area this summer? I'm also a bit of a gamer, so if people want to play CS or something, let me know and we can friend each other on discord.
Thanks for any positive vibes 👍

Do professors jump right into teaching or do they just pass out their syllabi? Will I miss important lectures and fall behind if I actually add and drop classes in the add/drop period?

I just moved into a 2 bedroom townhouse in puffton village with my boyfriend on the first of this month, and I really do like this place. The rental manager is a very nice guy and I love our house. However, pests seem to be quite an issue here. The day we moved in, literally the first 10 minutes, I noticed a big jumping spider on our wall. That honestly didn’t bother me whatsoever because I happen to love jumping spiders, so I was more excited than bothered lol, but unfortunately that was not the only thing I noticed. There was a dead bat in our boiler room in the kitchen stuck on a glue trap, still not even sure how a bat got in here. We haven’t even been here for a month and there has been all sorts of bugs, such as centipedes, humongous beetles, pincher bugs, flies, even wasps that have somehow made their way into our home. We do not leave the doors or windows open ever and we are very good about closing the door fast when we come in. We take our trash out daily and never leave any foods or drinks out ever. We are also very clean people. While i’m not thrilled about all the bugs, we did set traps and they have diminished a little bit since then, and I guess it just kind of is what it is. I don’t mind spiders at all but I cannot do centipedes or wasps. I also draw the line at rodents. A few nights ago we noticed droppings in our kitchen and the same night we saw either one or two mice run across our floor. We called maintenance of course and they came to check for entry points and set traps, but when we mentioned the mice and bugs, they just said “it’s just that time of year”. What do you mean there’s a time of year for tons of bugs to enter the house and for rodents to be running around pooping and peeing everywhere… For the amount of money we’re paying each month I feel like this should not be something that happens, especially each year apparently. I also feel like they should’ve sealed all possible holes in our place prior to us moving in.. for example our AC was broken the day we moved in as well. While maintenance is fast and helpful, a part of me feels like they’re not doing as good of a job as they should be. Has anyone else had these issues living at puffton? I really don’t want to move out since I do really like it here, but I cannot be dealing with tons of bugs and rodents all the time.

So I'm an incoming freshman for the fall 2026 semester and I originally had a triple lined up with 2 friends, but as of Saturday one backed out and isn't going to UMASS anymore, The friend still going to UMASS and I now want to get a double together, but obviously the deadline for preferences has passed. I've got nothing helpful from the any of the support staff and I'm just wondering if anyone knows about the process as to how it all works. Will we get a random third now? Will we automatically get bumped to a double? Will we have to switch to a double once swapping is available? ETC. If anyone knows anything or has been in a similar situation please let me know.

I was checking the meal plans for junior, I see lots of YCMP options I can get. And for some reason, for 100 meals it costs 1991.5$, which is way more than just the normal meal price (~13$) I was wondering if it's possible to just use a credit card or student debit etc. to get into dining, which costs even less than purchasing a meal plan if you calculate the price per meal.

I am moving out of the place I am staying at currently on September 2nd, which is the first day that people start moving in, but on the website my hall is listed under September 4th for moving in. My understanding is that, for nonbolded halls, you can move in at a different time than listed on the website but it wouldn’t be an assisted move-in. However, my hall is bolded, which means that it will be assisted by professional movers. Does this mean that I can only move in on September 4th between 8am and 5pm, or can I move in on the 2nd and forgo assistance? I know they’re not too stringent on what time you arrive, since last year I arrived an hour after my reservation time and it was fine; I’m just concerned that my hall won’t even be open on the 2nd. TIA!

Hi everyone!
We're two incoming UMass Amherst graduate students looking for one more roommate to join us for a lease at Mill Valley Estates starting on September 1st.
The apartment is a 2 bed, 2 bath unit, and the available space is a partitioned section of the living room. The living room is actually the largest space in the apartment and has its own AC. We'll be installing full-height partition curtains/dividers (dm for marked floor plan). The goal is to make it function like a bedroom while still keeping the apartment comfortable for everyone. You and one other person would be sharing a bathroom while the person in the master bedroom has an ensuite. Rent is split accordingly.
The rent of the apartment is 2495$ and for the living room tenant it is 695$ a month. See below for amenities.
If you're interested, send me a DM! Happy to answer questions, share more photos, discuss the room setup, or talk through the rent split and apartment details.

Hi everyone,
I am a student who transferred here from a community college, and ended up missing one global diversity requirement. I am going into my senior year, and I am juggling a busy schedule complete with many upper/grad level courses. Because of this, I am looking to complete this requirement with minimal effort. What are some of the easiest three credit global diversity courses you have taken? I am looking for something centered around discussion and shorter weekly writings.
Any suggestions?
also, in my experience, the advisors here do not seem to be very helpful. I was assured my gen eds were complete: I didn't realize I still had this requirement until I called about its presence on my ARR. If you are a new student or a transfer student, check your ARR (on spire), don't take what your advisors say as gospel, and ask questions as soon as something doesn't make sense. This debacle might unfortunately prevent me from taking a senior-year upper level course I was interested in taking.
Thank you all so much!

I am having really hard time finding any Central area gorman hall dorm photos. I would love to see what the dorm looks like so I can plan what to bring ahead of time.

How long after submitting the form and supporting docs did it take to hear back from financial aid on whether they would/could adjust your aid package? And what happens if you are still waiting on a determination but the August payment due date passes?

Looking to move in here in the coming Fall. Can anyone who has lived here recently/knows someone provide some reviews?
Thanks!

I’m a first year moving in this fall and I was winding what the trash situation is like in dorms? Do I bring my own trash can or is there one there/close by. If I bring my own, are there trash days and a dumpster or something to bring out the trash?

Anyone know when alumni weekend is?

Note: Mainly asking for surrounding areas in Hadley and Amherst/easily accessible by bus.
I'm trying to find more part time job options that will especially help me develop my skills etc. I'm looking for part time in areas such as: Front desk receptionist, other office jobs, organization; just along those lines. Preferably a sit down with flexibility (I can't do mornings except weekends).
And of course I have little experience in all, so it would be people/companies who are willing to help train students.
So if anyone has any recommendations of places I should look for please lmk!!
Edit: This is excluding the job board; I'm looking for other options not listed there and yes I check regular job posting sites, but some companies don't list jobs open to students online.
