I travel for work and often take 2-3 Ubers a month to the airport which is about 35 minutes away from my house. more than half the time the ride always starts like this:

- first the driver complaining that they won’t make a lot of money from the trip since uber takes so much

- next they ask how much I paid and try to negotiate a lower rate if I pay in cash

- since it’s a company travel expense and I need a receipt I tell them I can’t do it

- at this point I’ve had a few then go for a tip, either saying “theyll get me there fast” or some other statement or simply complain about not making enough money.

this wouldnt be as big of a problem if it didn’t happen so often. for reference I am flying out of the DFW airport so it’s a major metro.

does anyone else run into this and what’s your best counter? on another note, I wish uber would pay them more that way they don’t expect me to supplement their income

Ok, as you can see riders get charged $1500+ in fees and I ended up getting just $600+ including $90 tips. Is there an option to find your own commercial insurance. Government fees are laughable compared to what uber keeps + this insurance company without a name or business license, more like a money laundering scheme.

I wanted to share my experience because I'm curious if anyone else has gone through something similar.

On July 20, 2026, I took an Uber trip in Madrid, Spain. The original fare was €31.76.

At the end of the trip, I handed the driver €35 in cash, telling him to keep the change as a tip. He counted the money in front of me, didn't say there was any problem, and I left. The app immediately marked the trip as paid in cash.

A few hours later, Uber notified me that the driver had reported receiving less money and my account suddenly showed an outstanding balance.

I contacted support and sent every screenshot and explanation I had.

During the investigation, Uber admitted the driver had taken a non-optimal route and reduced the fare from €31.76 to €26.74.

However, they still left €12.74 as an unpaid balance because the driver claimed he received less cash.

Uber also told me they cannot verify cash exchanges between riders and drivers. Despite that, they applied what they called their internal reconciliation policy and "maximum coverage allowed by the system," leaving the remaining amount on my account.

They refused to explain what those policies actually are, closed the case as final, and told me they would not respond to any more messages.

I decided not to pay a balance for a trip that I believe I already paid in full, deleted the app, and won't be using Uber again.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with cash payments? How did Uber handle your case?

Hey everyone,

I closed my Uber Account I used once in USA back a few years. I noticed that I still get payments from Uber ONE ($5) every month.

Support says they cannot trace or see the payments in their system and i'm supposed to contact my bank.

I will do that, but wtf is that statement?? Uber does not know where they get their money from? I'm about to go with legal help if nothing goes by. It's only $5/Month, but I still don't wanna pay that.

Anyone experienced something similar??

I received an email about a month back saying I registered for uber one even though I didn’t (I use uber maybe once a year). I quickly reported this to my cc as I didn’t do this, but after a month they still charged me for it.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know how I could get my money back?

What's the case for Uber XL, XXL, Black SUV? This is for this coming Friday evening arrival into EWR heading into the Columbus Circle area.

Been reading complaints on here about new Uber sneaky tactics daily to get Drivers to unknowingly accept trash rides for the last year just so I know what to look out for while I cheery pick my way to da max. Gotten so bad I now accept one ride out of the last 100 sent to me. So I pondered - if all Uber drivers in each market set a minimum requirement to accept rides and enforced it strictly, Uber will have no choice but to send out much more favorable rides. Since COVID, fares have gotten gradually worse cos Uber knows no matter how bad the rates they set are, someone somewhere will accept them. There IS Power in United Numbers.

So rather than complain here, why don’t each Uber market set up one WhatsUp Group or Telegram Group and agree to set the minimum requirement for that specific market and add all drivers in that market to that Group and hold each other accountable. If Uber algorithm sees no one is accepting those trash rides in that market, Uber will start taking drivers more seriously.

Dann musste ich die Kündigung über meine Mobilfunknummer verifizieren. Dafür habe ich eine SMS von einer Mobilfunknummer bekommen (0177...) mit einer vorgefertigten Textnachricht: Erst eine vierstellige Nummer und dazu der Text, das ist dein Uber Code. Die SMS habe ich dann so versendet und die Kontolöschung konnte so abgeschlossen werden. Ist es so eine gängige Methode. SMS an eine unbekannte Nummer zu schicken hat mich etwas besorgt.

No driver with two brain cells to rub together would touch a fare that would have him or her on the edge of a financial loss – much less one that he or she would need to be up before the sun to get ready for.

Naturally, Uber left it alone, rate unchanged, until 5 AM, minutes before pickup time. Now they're praying to satan that some third worlder in a beater will eat it so they can retain your business and not have to refund you as you stress about possibly missing your flight.

So the picture, painted:

• Uber pockets your "premium" fee.
• Uber offers drivers $0.69 after actual costs.
• You paid for reliability. Uber delivers pure desperation.

Uber presents this to driver sheeple as "$26 per active hour."
The reality? $1.43/hr: less than a Bangladeshi garment worker earns.

I’ve been thinking about the shitty fares and constant complaints from drivers and pax regarding canceling too often, and realize this all comes down to money.

There’s no way to get uber as a corporation to to pay drivers …

But is it possible to get drivers a better fare ? Clearly wages are going down each year…If Uber is done subsidizing driver pay, there should be an option for riders to effectively guarantee better service by choosing what they’re willing to pay the driver upfront.
Think of it this way: the amount Uber charges upfront is the fee for using the platform—the matchmaking service. Then the rider has the option to commit an additional amount that goes directly to the driver as part of the fare. Call it something other than a tip if needed, because people hate the idea of “tipping before service.”
Empower takes the opposite approach. Drivers pay a subscription and keep 100% of the fare. Uber’s model is the reverse: drivers pay nothing to access the platform, Uber collects the entire fare, then decides what portion the driver receives.
The problem is Uber can’t realistically switch to Empower’s model without taking a huge hit to revenue. Their current business depends on keeping a large percentage of each fare.
Take a common example: a rider pays $22 for a 2-mile, 15-minute trip. Uber might offer the driver $8. Many drivers will still accept that, but plenty will also cancel—whether because they’re dual-apping, a better request appears, or they simply decide the pay isn’t worth it.
That leaves everyone frustrated. Riders get bounced between drivers, drivers feel underpaid, and Uber gets blamed for unreliable service.
A possible compromise would be a new ride option—something like “Name Your Price” or “Quote Your Fare.” The rider would still pay Uber a fixed platform fee (maybe $5–10) for using the marketplace. Then they’d decide how much they’re willing to pay the driver. That entire amount would be guaranteed to the driver before they accept the trip. If the driver provides exceptional service, the rider could still add an optional tip afterward.
There would be no guarantee a driver accepts the offer, but at least both sides would know exactly what’s on the table. Drivers could make informed decisions, riders willing to pay more could get faster, more reliable pickups, and Uber would still earn predictable platform revenue.
The biggest issue today is transparency. Riders often assume the driver is receiving most of what they paid, while drivers know they’re often getting a fraction of it. That disconnect creates resentment on both sides.
A marketplace where riders can effectively bid for priority service could reduce cancellations, improve driver morale, and give riders another option when getting picked up quickly actually matters.

So apparently I have a low rating at 4.2 stars. Even though that’s a terrible rating, the uber support agent admits that riders with lower ratings have been on the platform
