I know the series ended with Breaking Dawn in 2008, so the world of Twilight is basically frozen in that era of technology. But time keeps moving, and my brain is always wondering how fictional worlds would adapt to modern technology.
For Twilight specifically, how do you think vampires would handle social media?
The Cullens already live among humans, so I think they'd adapt pretty quickly. I could see Carlisle embracing telemedicine and remote consultations while still practicing medicine in person when possible. I could absolutely see Emmett running a huge faceless YouTube channel where his vibes alone get him a huge following.
But the part that intrigues me most is the Volturi and how'd they react to a world that is so much more interconnected then the one they'd been a part of for millenia.
It's not just the Cullens or the Denali tribe who would use social media to help integrate themselves easier. I think vampires in general would be drawn to it for all kinds of reasons. Some would use it to connect with other vampires after centuries of wandering. Others would absolutely use it to hunt. A beautiful vampire on a dating app could lure victims almost effortlessly, never needing to truly hunt again... Basically doordash for vampires lol.
I feel like the Volturi would have to modernize their rules. The law wouldn't be "don't use social media," it would be "don't expose yourself." Don't post your face online. Don't become a celebrity. Don't go viral etc.
It's such an interesting future look at the Twilight universe that I've never really seen discussed because it's all future speculation, but it's so intriguing to me that I wonder if the rise of modern technology would completely change how the Cullens and the rest of the vamps interact with the human world.
