Shoutout Shout out to the library!

Yesterday afternoon, I attended a mending class at Maxwell Park Library. I learned a running stitch, back stitch, and hem stitch. Plus, they provided us with instructions and some basic sewing supplies to take home. I usually take my pants to a tailor to get hemmed, but I am feeling pretty confident after the class. I’m looking forward to fixing a shirt and fixing the hem on a pair of pants myself. The instructor did a fantastic job. AND IT WAS FREE.

After that, I went to a FREE 1-hour yoga class at Central Library. They provided the mats, blocks, strap, and bolster for the class. It was chill and stretched out my tight back. Then I checked out a couple of books that would have cost me like $50 otherwise.

(Please note, I did work in libraries for 15 years, so I am a little biased when I say this. Also sorry for yelling when I write this.) LIBRARIES ARE PRETTY FANTASTIC.

General Your tips for staying cool in this heat.

Tried this earlier and it got sucked up, probably by the heat.

Cover your windows with blinds and curtains. I know the aesthetic these days is oh, light so bright and airy. Well ok, but nothing conducts heat and cold like glass. Assume vampire mode.

Draft blockers in front of bottom of front door. yes even in summer.

Keep wet washcloths in ziplocks in freezer. Put on your neck when you come in from heat or whenever.

PSO high rates are from 2-7p.m. weekdays. Use your appliances accordingly. PSO will do energy audit for free, even renters. whether your landlord will comply with recs is another matter.

Do the math as to whether PSO average is for you. When you leave that address for another one, you will pay the difference between what you would have been charged and what avg had you pay. I did this for my mom. When she moved to assisted living, the bill was almost $700 and that was almost 8 years ago.

If you have a bathroom fan that sucks up humidity, turn this on a few mins before you go to bed. It will suck out a lot of hot air. Really nice if bedroom is upstairs.

Dr Bronners peppermint soap in liquid form, not bar. CAVEAT, it will be tingly on the nether regions. Don't be a wuss, it subsides quickly. It also makes you sleep like a bear in hibernation.

Make sure your sheets are cotton.

what are your tips?

Hi I’m a woman, from Seattle WA. I’m on business in Tulsa. It’s really pretty and I wanna explore. Is it safe for me to walk around at night/evening alone? I don’t plan walking too far from my hotel.

Question who to contact about dog picked up by animal control?

Upvotes

A sweet dog in our neighborhood was out and we had given him a place to stay and cool off for the night two weeks ago. We eventually found the owner, but he “got out” again the same day and was picked up by Bixby Animal Control (we suspect he was abandoned bc he was in terrible condition - matted, filthy, 100% outdoor husky in this summer - and the owner didn’t seem to care when we returned him.)

Since I had him posted on the facebook group for lost and found in the area, I had been contacting whoever ran that group about updates. Since animal control got him, they said he was picked up by a rescue, but couldn’t disclose which rescue bc the mandatory city hold. I asked again after two weeks and they said he had a chip (I had him scanned and they didn’t find one originally), and the second contact was Tulsa Humane Society. They said Humane Society took him back, but didn’t know his status.

We went to that Humane Society today to visit him, but he wasn’t there. I told them about the situation and they said they hadn’t heard about anything regarding a husky or similar breed.

We’re at a loss. We just wanted to do the right thing but the guilt is killing me. Just wanted to know if anyone knew who would be able to help get info on a situation like this

Question Where to buy safe needles for IM injection locally?

Upvotes

Basically title, I don't have a current prescription for my hormones so most pharmacies won't sell me needles. I know I can order some online but was wondering if there were some local options around to avoid the online hassle. Thanks for the help!!

Tulsan In Need Question for the ladies

Upvotes

I am in desperate need of a good new bra. Since I’ve been breastfeeding I went from a B cup to a DD, so I’m having some issues. I know it’s temporary so somewhere that’s not outrageously priced. Any idea where to go? I know VS and Aerie but I need more coverage

Question I need help finding the artist who created these earrings I love.

Hello Tulsa!
Last year, I happened upon a stand of earrings at Paloma’s Plants in broken arrow. I fell in love with every single pair, but I could only afford 2 pairs. By the time I came back to look again, the stand was gone. I don’t have the card of the person who made them, but I KNOW they had business cards. Can someone help me find them? Thanks!

Question Estate Sale / Home Clearout

I’m looking for recommendations for a company or service that can assist with clearing out my mom’s house. Ideally, I’d like to talk first to an estate sale service to see if they think such a sale would be worthwhile or if we just need to have HOW Foundation, etc, come clear it out.

Tulsan In Need Plumbing recs?

Upvotes

Hello!

Does anyone have a good plumber in the area they'd recommend? We were alerted by the city water that we had a high water usage, we called out a plumber to see if they could detect what was going on and they said we have multiple foundation leaks due to water pressure spiking. They're wanting to go in and replace pipes and they quoted us like 23k for the job. This seems high and I was just curious if anyone else has some plumbers they'd recommend?

Thanks!

Question Landlord Recs

Upvotes

I am looking to rent my first house this fall (currently at an apartment in town). How do most management companies and landlords around here advertise their listings? When I was in a college town, there was a lot of advertising through word of mouth, and the best places never made it online.

Additionally, are there any specific management companies to avoid (or to seek out)? I had a decent landlord once and have been chasing that high ever since. My current place in town was well reviewed, but I found out the hard way stars on Google aren’t everything😓
