We are on our cross country trip and I made sure to stop by Gilead, Maine. I know it’s just a small town in western Maine, but as a longtime King fan it felt like one of those obligatory roadside pilgrimages.

I also happened across Roland Lake in Michigan.

It’s made all the sweeter that I am again making my trip to The Dark Tower. We are on Wizard and Glass and Reap is almost upon us. My fourth time all the way through and my partner’s first.

I just went to 2nd and Charles, and I somehow someway found an ORIGINAL HARDCOVER COPY OF IT, FOR ONLY 12 DOLLARS!!! This is literally one of the greatest discoveries I’ve ever made!! Although, I have no clue if it’s a first edition or not. If anybody knows, could you let me know if it’s a first edition?

I'm probably being dramatic af (I tend to do that lmao), but i just finished reading "Misery" for the first time, and it genuinely frightened me. I did a post the other day, announcing it's my first time reading the novel as i am a huge fan of the film, and i finished (at night mind you, I also live alone and i was warned not too 😭)...

What can i say, Annie Wilkes was evil af in the movie, but Annie Wilkes in the novel is actually next level.

I knew that in the book, she chops Paul's foot off then coterizes the wound, but I had no idea about his thumb, and that damn lawn mower part.

I loved the book and the movie the same, but i think the only I thought the film did way better was the beginning - in which, Annie genuinely seems like a nice person at first and has believable excuses with her phone lines being down, roads open etc etc, until she cracks before she turns out to have one too many screws loose. It seems in the novel, Paul knows something is up almost immediately even before she does the messed up stuff.

Overall, i loved it, and it is genuinely one of the few stories I've read to actually frighten me. Most of it is thanks to the fact that sometimes the most evil people can be someone as innocent looking as the little old lady down the street, and you never really know what anyone is capable off. There's also that line that describes how it's like a demon was staring through her eyes to show just how cold blooded she was.

This and The Exorcist have been the only two 'cockadoodie' novels ive read that actually frightened me. I cannot wait until I re read it again.

IT absolutely delivered. Incredible summer read.

Is there an adaptation worth watching?

I’m going to need a minute before moving on but would appreciate recommendations on where to go next. I’ve read Dolores, 11/22, Salem’s Lot and It. I’d rank them It, 11/22, Dolores, Salem’s. But enjoyed all 4.

Took awhile, didn't know for a couple of days if I was going to like this book.

But when it kicks in, holy hell, another masterpiece.

Nobody does character development like Mr. King.

Six months ago I started my journey to the Tower. I’m almost at the end now, and I don’t know if I’ve ever had a group of fictional characters feel this much like family.

This image of the ka-tet embracing after the attack on Algul Siento absolutely wrecks me. Knowing it’s the last time they’re together as a full tet… I honestly found myself wishing I could step into that circle and hug them too.

It is such a weird feeling…being excited to finally reach the Tower while also grieving that the journey is almost over, and mourning characters who have been such a huge part of the last six months of my life.

Where do I go from here?
I still have to read The Talisman, Rose Madder, Lisey’s Story, Cycle of the Werewolf, The Eyes of the Dragon, and The Tommyknockers. Which would you recommend to help get me out of the end-of-series funk that I’m already in… even though I still have 150 pages left?

I'm a ceramic artist and was inspired by the Victorian ceramic murder memorabilia that documented notorious crimes in the 19th century. This Shining moon pot is the first of a series to bring back that tradition but based on films that I love. It's a ceramic retelling of The Shining set in a bygone era. The first two photos are at Timberline Lodge (the exterior location of the Overlook Hotel). If you ever visit, ask the front desk for the replica axe!
