Has anyone here done a purely online SLP program and went on to successfully find a job? If so, which ones?

I am currently enrolled into a local university’s SLP program but I work full time and now I have to do classes in person but my job is not accommodating me.
So I have to skip this semester and figure out what to do next since I can’t afford to not work

Sorry this is vent post 😭. I understand grad school is hard, but it has gotten to a point where I genuinely feel like I have no life. I go to clinicals 4 days a week, have 4 heavy classes, plus all the tests and assignments. Being in EI, having to put on an animated voice, being watched by both supervisor and the parents, trying to do therapy while thinking of what to say to coach caregivers, all of it is just so draining already. Long commute and not getting paid does not help. I made sure to eat and sleep okay-ish, but every day after school & work & homework I just can not do anything else. I haven't worked out for months. Stopped enjoying my hobbies. Don't have time or money to go out. I am meeting all the deadlines but I feel like I am actively dying inside. I am supposed to graduate next year in May, and I am literally counting the days. I like this field, I like what I am doing and learning, but the heavy workload is really getting in the way of me enjoying the process. Is it even necessary to make the whole grad school experience this hard for a SLP degree? Do we really have to get 400 hours without getting paid? I am really drowning here.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to discuss my grad school situation. I start in about a month and I cannot believe it’s getting so close.

I’m really worried I chose the wrong school due to my commute. Just to put it into context, without traffic I will be driving 1 hr and 30 minutes. I’m also a relatively new driver, so the idea of being able to commute confidently very soon puts a lot of pressure on me. From what I know, we will be in person for classes 2 times a week, but I don’t know of my clinical schedule until a week before classes begin. I also learned recently that my first week I should expect to be there for 5 days in a row and that makes me nervous commute wise.

The reason why I didn’t choose a closer school is because well, there was no closer school. Each program required me to drive 45-1 hr 30 min. So I chose the program with the lightest schedule and also medical clinical opportunities which really excites me. Programs that are 15-30 minutes away from me would have also put me into crippling debt which I tried to avoid by going to this program.

I can’t exactly afford rent and I also didn’t want to put myself into more debt by dorming at graduate housing. I’m also really nervous about telling my employer that hey I actually don’t want to work weekends anymore for my sanity and honestly I don’t even know my schedule yet, and letting them down. But I need money for gas, food, etc.

I’m just worried I bit off way more than I can chew and being a new driver really doesn’t help. I wanted to be really involved in my grad program but I don’t even see myself being able to sustain a NSSLHA position if I can barely even get myself to class.

I guess i’d just like some words of encouragement because I am so stressed.

What are my chances of getting in to SLP program with a super low GPA. I graduated with a business degree. But I was so young and not focused. I did really well my last two semesters due to taking 2 years off and growing up . But now I’m much older and want to change my career. Are there any programs that would possibly accept me with making good grades with the leveling courses?

I’ve taken it so many times. I’ve had tutors, done courses, med slp study guide, Quizlet.. you name it, I’ve done it. I’m starting to give up :(

I think my breakdown is with the long scenario questions. Does anyone have any advice or guidance on what to do?

Hi there! I’m currently a preschool teacher and considering transitioning into slp. I was looking at a few online programs like PennWest, NYU, and Emerson. I was wondering if anyone else here has worked as a teacher while doing classes part time in the beginning of the program? Is it even possible to teach while doing these courses? Any advice would be great!

Hi everyone! I’ll be graduating this upcoming December with an out of field major (child & family studies). I’m looking into speech pathology program with leveling courses and masters programs Has anyone completed their leveling & masters with GCU? How was your experience. The program is appealing, fully online with three, three day campus intensives.

I just graduated with a social work BA and want to go into the SLP field for my masters. I currently work at a speech and brain development center where kids come for speech delay, stuttering, chewing problems, behavioral issues and many more. Their onboarding process is a bit unstructured for me and most of the time, I’m left to wonder myself and teach myself.
So I’ve been wanting to quit but I’ve only been here for around three weeks and I’m wondering if I’ll regret quitting here? Will this be a big help in my admissions?
Or should I just focus on leveling courses for now? I’m located in Asia and looking into grad programs in asia as well.

I currently work in marketing and between the state of the industry, AI, and the general "this is stupid and I'm not doing anything of value" feeling I constantly have, I'm looking at a career change. I also have 12m old baby.

I've been interested in becoming a SLP and speech therapist for a while now, and thinking it's time to take a plunge.

I know there are a lot of online programs that are tailored for working adults, but I was hoping to hear some first hand experiences about how you were able to navigate school with working full time/parent.

I also am unclear on the externship/clinic hours requirements. Was that when you had to transition out of your full-time job? I'm seeing conflicting things about whether that time is paid or unpaid. I'm located in SoCal for reference.

Any insights, advice, program recs, ect would be helpful!

My girlfriend is looking into changing career paths to SLP, and is specifically interested in CSUEB's bridge program as it would be more cost effective to complete undergrad courses in that format rather than leveling classes. Our current plan is to have her apply, if shes denied then she will do leveling courses and apply to a greater range of schools. I'd love to hear from anyone who is in or completed the program, I can't find info online about it or the acceptance rate. She is currently an elementary school librarian for 4 yrs post undergrad and went to UCSB and majored in a different language. Over 3.0 GPA.

Hey guys.
I’m in my first externship, and it’s been about 9 weeks. I haven’t been doing good at all.

My supervisor does not trust me enough to let me lead sessions by myself (rightfully so- I keep making mistakes and giving really bad caregiver education). I was supposed to take over her entire caseload by now, and I haven’t been able to do so. I also keep asking the wrong/irrelevant question. I’m unable to connect a lot of the dots together, and my clinical judgement is really bad.

I haven’t been able to fully lead an evaluation either. I always start off asking questions, but she has to start taking over because I’m not being efficient and I’m making a lot of mistakes.

I feel really bad about myself, because I’m only hearing how my friends and people online, even if they struggle, they are able to pick up the speed by the 9th week. It’s been a struggle from the beginning for me, and I only have about 2-3 weeks left.

I think I’m going to fail, and it’s not going to be because of a bad supervisor. She’s been trying to help me, even thought she’s been getting very frustrated with me (since week 2)- but rightfully so.

I am truly just so slow at this.

Has anyone ever struggled like this in their externship? Or know anyone who struggled like this but still made it past grad school?

I’ve been crying because I feel so incompetent. It’s one thing to struggle for the first couple of weeks, but I am nearing the end of my externship, and I haven’t made much progress. It’s been affecting me heavily, and I truly feel as though I’m going to be the biggest failure in the SLP field.

It makes me feel worst that everyone I’ve talked to has already made progress with their clients, and gives them good and proper education.

Hi everyone. I am an upcoming first year student and I am in the process of filling out necessary paperwork. One of which is a criminal background check. However there is something that I don't know how to answer.

One of the questions is if I have ever been involved with an Adult Protective Services case, with the options being "yes", "no" and "unsure". If you click on "unsure" it gives you the option of whether or not you want to explain the circumstances.

I have a family member who was the subject of an investigation from APS after abusing another family member with disabilities. Because they are family, I was asked a few questions by APS/court visitor. I was not directly involved in the incidents and wasn't a witness. However, if someone were to search up my name in the background check, I'm not even sure if my name comes up.

How should I answer this? Do I just put "unsure"? And if I do, should I explain everything, or just leave it blank?

I am currently looking for a leveling or a pathway program for SLP. I am looking for the most affordable online program. I’m so overwhelmed with everything but I do know that I do not want to spend $70k on grad school.

I have decided to pursue the Master's of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) in Canada, as it seems like a healthcare career that aligns well with my interests and is one I can realistically sustain long-term as someone with an obvious physical disability.

I'm planning to apply to the University of Alberta, so if anyone has experience with the program or advice, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm wondering whether I should mention my disability in my letter of intent when I apply.

From what I've researched, the letter of intent includes discussing experiences about EDI. I'm unsure whether sharing my perspective as someone with a physical disability would strengthen my application or whether it's better not to mention it.

I understand this wouldn't be the deciding factor in my application, but I haven't been able to find much discussion about this and wasn't sure who to ask. If anyone has experience or advice, I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts.

I’ll be graduating with my bachelors in child development this upcoming December. Hoping to apply for a few different online graduate programs with built in extended tracks for leveling. If you went this route, can you please share the school you went to, tuition and your experience? I’m in the so-cal/IE area. I’ve been heavily considering WCU for their leveling & masters program. However, they have not been great at responding to my inquiries as i’m having trouble finding applications and start dates for their Pre-SLP leveling. I also know they’re a candidate for ASHA accreditation but have not been fully accredited which is another concern of mine. I am also worried about going their pre-slp route and not getting accepted into the masters program and these courses not transferring to other ma programs! Please share!!! Thanks!!

Hey everyone. I'm planning on applying to the SLP masters at UofT, McMaster, and Western next year. Currently I have a subGPA of 3.96. I hope to keep that intact. I don't have much volunteering experience, but I do have some research experience and aim to do an honours thesis in my final year. Can anyone who has got in share what their general stats were, and what particular experiences they had?
