Build/Battlestation Pics $300 5.4L - DIY Machine for Steam Gaming

Hey all, I’m pretty excited to share my build! It’s using the asrock bc250 (ps5 apu turned into cryptomining card) as the core. Recently some smart folks figured out to enable the disabled CUs on these things, which helped uplift performance by significant margin. Gpu wise with overclocks it’s comparable between a rx6600 -> rx7600 in game benchmarks. Pretty close in performance to the real steam machine as well.

The case is a fully 3d printed, screwless design. I didn’t make the original model, but I did create a remix after modifying a bit of everything. One of those mods was changing the face to be more fractal-esque, which then led me to making custom swappable front plates for the case. Both the upper and lower sections of the front face are customizable and swappable. I had a lot of fun with printing a convincing fake wood texture! Benchmark/Thermal Test SFF Gaming PC build using the Rare Dell Radeon Pro W7400 8GB (RX 7400)

F.Y.I I am not super knowledgeable about PC's and I have tried my best to learn as much as I can. This is a long post just because I found this interesting and I can show what I have learned.

I Managed to build a really small and compact gaming PC using the infamous and not well known Dell Radeon Pro W7400 8GB (RX 7400) it the same hardware as the steam machine GPU probably not quite as optimised though. It frustratingly runs too hot and is impossible to find without spending roughly 1,400 pounds on a OEM Dell workstation that comes with it. I paid about 170 pounds used on eBay. This GPU as far as I know is the fastest low profile (and single slot) AMD graphics card you can currently get, dethroning the Dell RX 6500 4GB. I am not sure even if there is another GPU that surpasses 8GB that is LP and single slot.

The problem this GPU has is that it simply runs too hot for gaming under heavy to max load. Its blower style fan is bios locked to run at roughly 40% speed which is about 4,000 rpm and underclocking is also locked. It only reaches max blower fan speed once reaching beyond comfortable temps. If you have seen videos on this card it can reach high 80s to even low 90s in temperature (Celsius) during gameplay. This is even in great airflow and optimised case and fan layouts.

SFF PC cases are known to have really bad airflow and fan support, which makes this GPU not suited for this application but finding a SFF case and adding fan mods to it and modding the GPU itself can make this build idea totally worth it and have great temperatures.

The case I choose was the Jonsbo NV10 which looks clean and is very compact, it is known for not supporting case fans and obviously having bad airflow. If you made this build stock with a RTX card expect GPU temps in the mid and high 80s . However if you add the aftermarket fan bracket above the GPU which supports 3 40mmx10mm fans it will make a big difference. I found this makes no positive difference in temps for the W7400 though with the fans being intake or exhaust, because it doesn't care about airflow as its only trying to maintain temps in the high 80s and avoiding dangerously high temps (which it can't often maintain at full load)

The only option I found was to actually disconnect the blower fan from the GPU and control it manually from my motherboard using a standard 4-Pin to PH2.0 4-Pin adapter. This allows me to fully control the fan curve which I run at 85%, I paired this with another case mod where I have added an exhaust fan (Arctic S4028-6K) near the display port of the GPU using a cable tie as a screw is not possible. The GPU blower is designed to push the air through the metal shroud/heatsink towards the display ports. As this is a single slot GPU I have space to add this arctic exhaust fan and not touch the GPU PCB itself. I control the GPU blower and exhaust fan in the same curve configuration with both running at 85%, the exhaust hopefully shouldn't over power the GPU Blower as it spins at roughly 5100rpm and the GPU blower spins at 8500rpm. The 3 fans on top of the GPU (Noctua) are set to intake which helps to feed cool air to the GPU blower itself, as the blower sits fairly deep in the case and would likely struggle to feed itself cool air.

This fan setup and GPU mod basically fixes all its problems, making it a great option for this build if you really wanted the best AMD GPU that is low profile, if you want to maybe run Steam OS or bazzite/Linux instead of windows 11. In terms of performance and temps I have added photos of the results I was getting during gameplay (over 15 minutes of gameplay) which was cyberpunk 2077 with high graphics preset and FSR 3 upscaling and frame gen I was getting around 110 FPS average. The FPS was really nice and again temperatures were very comfortable reaching 72C core temps and roughly 76C hotspot. This card can run a little warmer depending on ambient temperatures, I seen it reach 76-77C core and 81C hotspot when I played Resident Evil Requiem at high settings no upscaling or frame generation which I got 60FPS average.

Hopefully you found this interesting and again I am not too knowledgeable about recording data so hopefully the photos shed some light on the performance and also the mods I have added to the Jonsbo NV10 case.

Ryzen 5 pro 8500GE (35W), thermalright x36 heatsink with a noctua 80mm fan, Dell Radeon Pro W7400 8GB, 16GB (2x8) DDR5 Kingston Fury, 500gb SSD, Enhance flex PSU with a noctua fan mod, Jonsbo NV10 case with a couple OEM stickers added, 3 noctua 40mmx10mm fans (intake) and an ARCTIC S4028-6K fan (exhaust)

I saw the regular S300 in person, and now we're here. I had a build I was happy with in the Meshlicious, but something about how small the S300 is really got to me, especially in person. I also was worried about my Meshlicious build as I have some travel ahead of me, and something about the way the vertical GPU sat made me worried it would sit a bit too much in the wrong direction.

I did not want to change parts or look for custom cables, so I had to find something that would fit my existing PSU's rigid cable nonsense & my ASUS TUF 3080, so here we are. Compared to the S300, the S300pro is .4L larger, which gets you room for two top fans and more bottom IO.

Build experience was more than fine for how small the case is and how bad at cable management I am. The top fan(s) are in a sled, so it's easy to take that in/out as you figure things out. There was a few repeat steps for me as I realized how cables were going to go, but nothing egregious. The only gripe I have with the case's design is that the internal PSU cable (the white one in the image) is distinctly too long for the length of the case. It's not a huge issue, but given how little space there is for extra cable slack, it got in the way for me, and there's not really room for it to go under the mobo or anywhere tucked away that I could find.

A caveat if anyone is looking to build in this case - if you want to do 2x 120 slim fans on top, you will need some combination of a less chonky GPU, and/or a power supply with more flexible (or 90 degree) GPU connectors, because my rigid daisy chain VGA cables interefered with that fan spot. That being said, I needed that extra room to stuff cables into for the aforementioned power supply reasons, so I'm not mad about it. As you can tell in the second image, I have a lot of excess and inflexible cable stuffed in here, so I had to temper my expectations.

All in all, an easy enough build, and I'm very satisfied to have gone from 14.7L to 8.5L!

Main parts: Ryzen 7600x3d & ASUS TUF 3080. Cooling: Thermalright AXP90-53 full copper, one Noctua A19x14 under the PSU, one Noctua A12x15 on top as exhaust. If I ever swap the PSU out, I'll put another A12x15 up top.

(I will try to improve the cable management to a degree, but for now, I'm happy as it is!)

Assembly Help First time build - suggestions on fan placement

This is my first time building, and I actually have one more fan identical to the two intake fans on the bottom. I was thinking it probably could use another intake but I’m really not sure where to place it. Or I don’t know, maybe even as an exhaust? I was hoping I might get some suggestions. This is the Jonsbo Z20 case.

Btw I had no choice but to face the psu fan inward based on the orientation of the plug.

Benchmark/Thermal Test ROG STRIX B850-I: Got a DOA report for EXPO BSODs, GPU driver crashes & SSD bending. Is this board a lemon or widespread?

I recently sent my new ASUS ROG STRIX B850-I GAMING WIFI back for RMA in Turkey, and local tech support officially issued a DOA (Dead on Arrival / Defective) report.

Before I decide whether to accept a replacement B850-I or pivot to a completely different Mini-ITX motherboard, I wanted to ask the community if these issues are widespread or if I just got a bad unit.

EXPO Instability (BSODs & Driver Crashes): Enabling EXPO led to boot failures, random Windows BSODs, and frequent Nvidia GPU driver crashes (TDR resets caused by memory corruption). What boggles my mind is that my

TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI runs the exact same RAM profile rock solid without a single crash.

M.2 SSD Physical Bending: Mounting my SSD under the stock M.2 heatsink layer resulted in visible physical SSD warping/bending.

Dolby Atmos Issue: The hardware-bound Dolby Atmos license failed to activate altogether.

Since ITX motherboards have 1 DPC (2 RAM slots) and shorter trace lengths, they are theoretically supposed to offer better or at least equal memory stability compared to ATX 4-slot boards like the TUF B650-Plus.

Questions for current B850-I owners:

-Are you running EXPO (6000MHz+) stably on this board without GPU driver resets or BSODs?

-Have you noticed any physical bending on your M.2 drives when using the stock heatsink setup?

-Do you think this is just early-stage BIOS instability / a bad unit (lemon), or an inherent design flaw with this model?

Would love to hear your thoughts before I make my final decision on the replacement. Thanks!

TL;DR: Got a DOA report for ROG STRIX B850-I due to EXPO instability (BSODs/Nvidia crashes), M.2 SSD bending, and Dolby Atmos bugs. TUF B650-Plus runs the same RAM fine. Should I get a replacement B850-I or switch to another ITX board?

Assembly Help Powering the 5070 on 400W?

Please don't flame me for being insane(Or do, I probably deserve it.)

Currently have a 5600/B450/32G DDR4/RTX2060 combo in a Velka 3(1.2), and running the setup is a FSP 400W 80+ Gold PSU.

I've seen Colorful 5070 Minis for a decent price(equiv. ~600USD) and was thinking it'd be a decent drop-in upgrade as I could keep my DDR4 setup.

However, I cannot source an Enhance 7660B at a reasonable price where I am. So I was wondering whether I could keep the 400W FSP PSU and make do with it while undervolting both CPU and GPU.

Issue 1: Is the system too powerful for 400W? I thought that capping CPU PL at 70W+ undervolting the 5070 to under 200W could be enough.

Issue 2: The PSU only has 1 8x PCIE power connector. Will it work with the 12VHPWR adapter? Theoretically the 75W from the slot+150W should be enough to keep the undervolted 5070 happy.

How crazy am I, and failing that, are there any decent alternatives to the 7660 if I should buy a new PSU?

Build/Parts Check Review for Fractal Terra Build

I am a complete beginner when it comes to building a PC from scratch. I am a technical person, just didn't build a PC yet. I decided to pull the trigger on building a mini-PC with a console-like experience, driven by the recent Steam Machine turmoil.

I decided on the Fractal Terra case because I like how it looks like. So that is kind of a non-negotiable.

I've watched some videos and scrolled a bit through this sub-reddit to understand how things fit together, and I came up with the following list of components, together with the prices in the region I am from. My initial budget was 2000 EUR. The current build overshoots that value, so I am thinking if there are any areas I could reduce.

So the questions are:

  1. Does the current list of components make sense, compatibility wise and case wise?
  2. Am I missing something from the list? (I guess thermal paste, but I think I have some lying around)
  3. Are there any areas where I can get cheaper components, or, in general, reduce the price?
  4. Any other feedback is appreciated

Benchmark/Thermal Test I am stuck between ID Cooling IS-67XT and Thermalright AXP120

I am trying to run a 9850X3D CPU. I do plan to do PBO adjustments and undervolting. I know that both CPU coolers come with compromises and both are more or less on the same tier, but I just wanted to get the community opinion on which might be superior.

On paper, I have seen most information on the web say the AXP120 has slightly better cooling performance and fin density, but it's negligible and not that meaningful an edge.

On the other hand the IS 67 XT has a more intricate design with ITX clearanc in mind, being much more forgiving for tall RAM sticks (I have Adata blade RGB ram sticks which are 40mm tall), and tall heatsinks for ITX motherbaords.

I plan to put these in a build within the Meshroom S v2, with two 140mm ARGB fans on the front to go with my CPU cooler.

Are there any caveats I should know? Small details that google searches and AI searches might miss?

I'm pretty new to the SFF community and I was looking for advice on my Fractal Terra build that I'm currently planning. I have pretty much all the parts picked out but I'm stuck on which CPU cooler to use on the 9800x3D + Powercolor Reaper 9070XT. I plan on running the build on SteamOS and using it as a living room 4K console.

CPU COOLER: Here's where the question lies. My options are either:

Please let me know what you think the best CPU Cooler is for this setup. Also the only thing set in stone is the Fractal Terra Case and the PSU since I bought them already but please let me know if there are any other parts that should be swapped for the best gaming experience.

Build/Parts Check Planning a high-end Threadripper workstation build in Hong Kong – Need advice on RAM & motherboard sourcing (Dec 2026)

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to build a high-end AI workstation in Hong Kong around mid-to-late December 2026 and will be physically there for pickup.

Main parts I'm looking for:

- ASUS Pro WS WRX90E-SAGE SE (New Box preferred)

- AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7955WX or 7965WX (Tray)

- 8x 64GB DDR5-5600 ECC RDIMM (512GB total, same batch preferred)

- 4TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD

I'm especially struggling to find good pricing and stock for the 64GB ECC RDIMMs.

Questions:

1. Which shops in Sham Shui Po (Golden Computer Arcade/Centre) or Mong Kok are reliable for workstation/server parts right now?

2. Any recommendations for places that have good stock of high-capacity ECC RDIMM?

3. Is it better to buy RAM new or look for clean server pulls?

4. Any shops that are good with cash deals and bargaining?

Any recent experiences (2025-2026) would be really helpful.
