My son has done 3 years of bari sax (marching band, jazz band, honors band) in HS and is loving it. He wants to go to college (VCU or GMU) for biology but is anxious to keep with music either a) as a minor, b) as part of bands, or c) both.

He is going to audition for both schools this fall, but I wanted to cross-check what may be an AI hallucination, namely that being a bari player is beneficial due to scarcity/rarity.

I always worry AI is going to tell me what I want to hear and is just feeding me/him a line because it is aiming to please.

Can someone give me some info about this sax. A friend of mine bought this Sax a long time ago, took It to a luthier to a general check up and that borrowed me to try It, said had some tune problems. It works fine actually and has a nice tone, just some leaks on the low notes. Thank you

I don't know if it's something you do on that forum, but since some great souls helped me and gave me advices in my alto purchase, therefore I found it great to share with you my new acquisition that is the Yamaha YAS-280

There's gonna be plently of work to do, I come from the world of electric guitar (20 years) so the only transferable skill is the hear (which is already something valuable) and the rest will be worked throughout my practice and the time I can unlock to this new music realm of sax !

I write this since I can't practice now because it's 10 PM where I live so...

The YAS-280 feels really solid and great, I have no big comparison experience I just had a long time ago a Tenor from a brand nobody knows and later I got a broken YAS-25... finally I have a brand new thing haha

I pulled the trigger on this one since there was a huge discount on a website I know I used to buy guitar related things on it (200€ discount). That helps !

I have recently started playing saxophone again and would love to start making music with other people again. What would be the best way to go about this?

So i just got a ymaha yts-380 i've been playing the tenor sax for about 4-5 months and im really having trouble actually getting it to stay at low D because it stutters and sometimes i can get it to stay at low D but i can barely hold the note for more than 5 or 6 seconds, advice? it was indeed my g sharp screw thank you to the people who bothered posting here i appreciate all of your tips

My husband loves the sound of a tenor sax and finally convinced me to buy one. I have been playing clarinet for 45 years and alto sax for 40. I rolled through a chromatic scale and it was good. I need more practice, of course.

The MP that Yanagisawa is okay, but not up to my standards, so I ordered a Meyer 5. I also ordered my favorite brand of reeds. I have lots of Bb music here - obviously for clarinet. Will playing that music be enough? Or is there a music book or two ya'll might recommend? TIA. ❤️

I've been playing the alto saxophone for a while now, mostly self-taught. I've set myself the goal of learning Take Five, but I'm running into some trouble with the two bars of sixteenth notes (semicorcheas).

My main issue is keeping up with the tempo, but I'm also unsure about the best fingering for those two measures. The sequence feels a bit awkward to me: D – E♭ – D – C – B♭, and then B♭ – C – B♭ – G – F. My fingers feel like they're jumping around too much, especially with the octave shifts and the B♭–C movement.

Is there a more efficient fingering or a practice approach that could make this smoother? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I played the Alto Saxophone (in Australia) throughout high school - looking to get back into playing but it’s been many years since I last played and I’ve since lost all of my music books.

I was just wanting to find out if there’s any “go to” beginner book for beginners that was used here by teachers in Australia.

From memory it may have had simple songs like “three blind mice”, Jingle Bells etc.

I've been playing electric and acoustic guitar for almost 20 years, while I know how to read tabs like anyone, I'm not able to read sheet music but my wife is a trained chinese piano player so she could be able to make me learn that quickly asian way lmao

I would like to buy a saxophone, I want to explore that world for real this time, a while ago I played saxophone and took few classes but I had cheap tenor saxophone and it didn't click and apparently is could not be settled in tune, afterwards I had a YAS-25 used but I bought it kinda quickly and I discovered after that it was completely ruined (keys not aligned, pads completely worn out, bump on the key's circle (idk the name of that), I went to a saxophone repair shop and the guy told me he could repair it but it was too costly for me and in the end I actually sold both... And I kept in mind the idea that later I would buy a new one directly and the time has come apparently in my head.

I know about the reference which is the YAS-280, I can find one new on a shop for 850 € shipping included, sounds like a great discounted deal
However is there any more valuable options for me ? Something I may not know or a brand not really well known but that is more quality/value ?

I prefer to mention, because of this bad story a while ago, I think I won't buy used (or if I do it would need to be perfectly new alsmot) and in some way I think of it...I think that psychologicaly I can't use an old saxophone for the hygiene reasons I'm kinda attached to that.

I’m the creator of SaxoTools, an app a bit like Guitar Hero for saxophone.

Today, the app lets saxophone players learn songs in a guided way and also offers scale exercises to help them practice technique and improve their playing. We now have around 5,000 users, and our goal is to evolve SaxoTools into a more complete learning app for saxophone.

To do that, I’m looking for a saxophone teacher who could create structured beginner lessons that would be published directly in the app, especially for people who have just bought their first saxophone.

Has anyone here tried the new dv jc tenor? I own the dv but am looking for something more versatile and wanted to know how it compares with the dv chi and the hand hammered.
