Section cuts and blocks
What am I doing wrong?
I will section a block, but often times the geometry isn't cliped

If you have subbed with us for a while you'll know we've grown significantly. We now need to moderate a little more carefully what kind of content we are allowing. Until now, we've (mostly) kept out the other Rhinos and been hands-off -- honestly, 99% of you have been great. Recently there's been an uptick in a few users posting their own content (Youtube channels or likewise) and we've heard a call by users to limit the amount of self-promoting content and we agree. Thus,
Feel free to post links to your own content (within reason). But if that's all you ever post, or it always seems to get voted down, take a good hard look in the mirror --- you just might be a spammer. A widely used rule of thumb is the 9:1 ratio, i.e. only 1 out of every 10 of your submissions should be your own content.
Anyone knowingly self-promoting, click-farming, or otherwise using our subreddit mainly for personal gain or promotion will be banned for 30 days.
A second offense is an immediate and indefinite ban without warning.

First image is correct line weights for printing, second image is what happens when I try print
For reference, everything is set to 'By Layer' so I don't think that's the issue. Linewights used are Heavy (0.7), Moderate (0.5) and Light (0.3)
I’ve been neglecting grasshopper for too long now. Feels good to get back into it. So much to learn…
Edit: not a student or in the industry at all and learn this for fun

I just discovered this in the EdgeFillet command after being a Rhino user for over 15 years. Any idea when they added this or am I moron and its always been there? It seems to work for the most part as well.
The amount of time I've spent manually rebuilding a model so I could change a small fillet is insane.

Longtime lurker, first time poster. Dear beloved Rhino community, I could use some help:
I made a somewhat complex form of of multiple convex and concave surfaces. I then extruded their boundary edges downward and wirecut them to make solid objects. Now I believe I shot myself in the foot, because I need all of these forms to be unifed as one closed solid for fabrication. Boolean Union will not work because the solids share similar walls without any overlap.
Does anyone have advice on the most efficient way to unify all of these shapes and remove an unnecessary interior walls? I tried NonManifoldMerge with limited success. Do I just have to Explode and manually Split each wall?
I'll dance at your wedding if you can offer any sage advice.
(*note: 3rd image is showing all solids with the bottom caps removed to illustrate interior walls)

Or even crosspost. Is this karma-phishing? Or just some showing-off? Like we did when in the kindergarden: look what I made for you, mum.

Hi bro~ 👋
I’ve been working on a small tool called 3D Print Layout, and I’ve finally released it as an open-source project.
It automatically arranges selected parts across one or more 3D-printer beds. It can also rotate parts, apply spacing and margins, add labels, and highlight matching parts between the original model and the generated layout.
It supports:
- Rhino 7 and 8
- 53 built-in printer presets
- Custom printer-bed dimensions
- English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean
- Windows installers and a SketchUp RBZ package

Hi everyone, I have a model of rather a lot of individual meshes (initially made as breps, then converted for ease of handling) except now im trying to managage the file and realizing that for some reason just about every object has a duplicate that is just different enough internally, or maybe off by a millimeter, for SelDup to not catch it. ANybody got any ideas for how to resolve this? Either some rhino function or grasshopper. Its really fucking with my work. Any help appreciated.

Hello,
In Rhino, you can assign names to objects through the Name field in the Properties panel or by using the SetObjectName command.
You can also use the SelName command to select objects from a list of object names.
However, as far as I know, Rhino does not provide a persistent panel that shows the layer structure together with the named objects contained in each layer, while also allowing you to select and rename those objects directly from the same interface.
So I have recently started developing a plugin called Object Outliner.
It displays the objects contained in each layer as a named list and allows you to select and rename them directly from the panel.
Visibility can also be controlled for individual objects and layers using lightbulb icons, and right-clicking an icon lets you isolate that object or layer.
Drag and drop is supported as well: you can move objects between layers, and remove an object from a group simply by dragging it out of the group.
The main idea is to make it possible to manage objects while keeping an overview of the model structure, rather than running SetObjectName or SelName each time.
The plugin is still at the prototype stage, but I personally find it very useful once a model starts to contain many objects.
Do you think something like this would be useful in your workflow? What do you think?
I’m Japanese, so I used GPT to help translate this post into English.

Hi everyone, we’re the team behind D5.
We have just released D5 Lite for Rhino in beta as part of D5 3.1.
Rhino projects often change quickly. You might adjust a façade curve, test a roof profile, compare several massing studies, or move between different material directions within the same session. In that kind of workflow, exporting the model and setting up a separate render every time can interrupt the design process.
D5 Lite runs directly inside Rhino, so materials, lighting, and atmosphere can be reviewed while the geometry is still developing.
With D5 Lite for Rhino, you can:
For us, the important part is not only faster visualization. It is being able to judge a design while it is still flexible.
A façade pattern can be evaluated through light and shadow, not only linework. A canopy can be reviewed through the space it creates below. A landscape surface can be understood with planting, atmosphere, and context while the terrain is still being adjusted.
D5 Lite is intended for earlier design exploration inside Rhino.
When the project is ready for more advanced visualization, the workflow can continue into D5 Render for refined images, animation, and Interactive Presentation.
Materials, lighting, proxy models, and Geo Sky created in D5 Lite can be synced one way into D5 Render, so the scene does not need to be rebuilt from the beginning.
The broader goal is a more connected workflow:
Rhino for design exploration → D5 Lite for visual decision-making → D5 Render for final presentation
We would appreciate your feedback
This is currently a beta release, and we would especially like to hear from Rhino users working with:
How does it fit into your current workflow? Where does it help, and where does it still slow you down?
Please feel free to share examples, questions, compatibility issues, or feature requests in the replies. Our team will be following the discussion.

Hi there!
I am fairly new to Rhino and Grasshopper. I have mainly used Fusion 360, Autocad and a few other system for cabinet manufacturing (Cabinet Vision, Microvellum). For the past couple of months I've really been diving in and trying to switch over to Rhino for a lot of my work since I keep finding it's functionality so much greater then what I've been doing.
Right now I'm practicing modeling cabinets and slowly working on a few GH programs to make parametric cabinet models. I find myself a little stuck on hardware. I wanted to know what people use as their best practices for adding hardware to their models. I'm trying to figure out for all hardware from door pulls to screws to hinges. I've tried a few things like; pulling iges. or Step files from other databases grouping and adding them to current models. I've made my own as block instances or groups within the file. I am working on how to bring a block instance in with GH and add it to the right spot.
I'm using these for shop drawings and CNC machining so they have to be super accurate and would need corresponding machining on some parts (ie; for the hinge cups).
Any and all help will be appreciated! Thanks for your time!
Simple rectangle with radius corners that I'm piping in properties for bent tube furniture that I'd like to do some boolean operation on, thanks.
This is my beta testers user manual for what eventually became Rhino 3D

In Rhino 5, I was able to customise what happened when, for example, right clicking on "Boolean Union".. That customisation was to effectively remove all of the right click actions, so that the only thing the app could do was open the sub menu, instead of me having to click and hold for a second.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do that in Rhino 8?

Hey everyone,
I recently got a job offer at a BIM consultancy. During the interview, they told me that I don't necessarily need to know Revit right away and that my core focus will be working within Rhino and Grasshopper.
I am a bit curious about how this actually plays out in a corporate BIM environment.
For those of you who work primarily in Rhino/Grasshopper inside a BIM-heavy office:
Would love to hear about your professional experiences. Thanks!

Hello, I have two personalized command-lines that I would like to use in sequence, between that I would like to modify my model.
It would be handy to use the Alias-1 by pressing Key-X, then working and then pressing Key-X again to toggle Alias-2.
Is there anyway that's possible ? Alternatively, is it possible to define a "Pause Time" for a single Alias so I might work while the Alias is still active ?
Thanks in advance

I’m on my last year of architecture and I finally did the purchase of the software. I want to generate documentation and models and presentation material as well. I’m planing to use grasshopper and the other options that came with the software but I’m really new to this specific software; I was using sharp3D and revit sometimes archicad, I’m also using morpholio trace as a tool, same with procreate. I’m currently working primary on iOS but I’m going to use this one on a MSI computer I have. (This explanation was just for some perspective before my question).
So what software are you using to render the models or is just rhino ? (I’m also working with 3printing machines from Creality, and the laser cutting/ engraving).
For the ones that use rhino as an architecture tool my question is if you can do all the documentation process of a project just with the rhino 3d or do you need additional steps? (Like some people does, for example; modelling in sketch up and the using some cad to make the documentation), rhino have a native documentation tool like revit?
I’m grateful for any tip you have; I’m frankly a new new user. Thank you!

I have been trying, without success, for about 7 hours to align one flat surface with another, so I can BooleanUnion the 2 objects together. O just want to move the top surface to the right a bit in a way that perfectly aligns with the bottom object. I have already consumed 3 pots of coffee and torn all of my hair out, trying to find a solution. Any help would be appreciated.
I would even settle for aligning the bottom edge of the top object with the top edge of the bottom object.
I'm trying to create a katana pattern and it has this unique fold almost like 2 90 degrees and I'm trying to make a symmetrical pattern that I can replicate. Can someone demonstrate how this is done please!
