Question Looking for a different program.

Getting fed up with the updates that mess everything that I have already done up. The most recent update 2704.1.36 has taken everything that I entered years ago and taken away the description and part # in the edit part properties. I entered them several times to find out that they didn't take. I have had several issues with the last few updates. So I am now looking for a new program to use at work. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thx

Question Why isn't pattern replication of a cut extrusion not working?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I'm creating an object that will contain fully enclosed pockets for magnets. I'm going to 3D print it and pause midway through the print in order to insert glue and a magnet in each pocket.

So on one face I created a sketch and then did a cut extrusion with offset. You can see it on the left of the image.

I then used a circular pattern to replicate the cut extrusion feature 4 times (original + 3) around an vertical axis. But as you can see from the image, the replications ended up as bodies within the body. And in fact, you can see Body18, Body19, and Body20 in the Bodies hierarchy, which are the 3 replications.

What have I done wrong?

Is there anyway to shell this out so the inside highlighted face matches the outside highlighted face? Id like to avoid the overhang when 3d printing it. I tried playing with the shell command but I couldn't get it to work.

Problems with sketches

Upvotes

https://reddit.com/link/1v3udpt/video/iv0g6ok3rueh1/player

I have been having some problems with Fusion recently. It all started when I had to install a new SSD since my computer was getting slow.

After the SSD update, I donwloaded Fusion and logged in. I opened a couple files I had been working on, until I got one that wouldnt open. I got an error saying it couldnt be downloaded. So I closed Fusion, opened it again, and that file worked just fine.

A couple days later I got the same error on another file, one that I really needed. So after closing and opening Fusion several times to no avail, I decided to remove the program and install again. I had some problems installing it, until I was finally able to do it. And this time the file opened fine, but the program was really slow, it was consuming my entire memory. So I exported as stp the parts I needed, and finished the drawings.

But while doing so, I noticed something weird. When I make a sketch on a surface, it wont recognize the features that are already on the surface. So I can not make concentric circle on one that was previously done. Or offset the perimeter. Basically its a new sketch even though it was done on a surface.

What could it be?

Question How to sweep a specific length?

I am trying to model a small speaker box, and play around with tuned ports. The length of the port is very specific. For example current calculation requires a box volume of 9.5L and a round port of 47mm X 573mm. The first two parts are easy enough for me to draw. But when it comes to marking 573mm along a path I have to manually work out which segment falls within my target, then create a line of 73mm and cut off the tail. OR I can sweep a know length. Work out my target expressed as a % and sweep that length. both ways are annoying. Is there a better method?

NOTE: picture below is for reference, I know the total length is not 573mm.

Adding alignment nubs for this handle to a bowl
I'm printing the handle separately so I don't need to worry about the over hangs, I'll print them on their side
I'm struggling to do the alignment nubs for when I super glue the handles back on because its a curved surface

Need Help Organizing

Im building this model of a shed, I started my assembly by just pulling components in one by one, I never built sub assembly's until I did the framed wall. Is there a was I can squeeze all these components into sub assembly's now that they are part of this model? I'm looking to make the 2x6 floor framing its own, then the legs there own and the sheeting its own. Just not sure how to go about that. Thanks for any help

Pardon the dumb question

I tried to ask this in google and AI and I just couldn't get the wording right to find the answer(s) I am looking for. Just getting into 3d printing and looking into diving into fusion360 over using blender but I have a question. I have some very basic blender experience and I have used it for the last couple weeks to modify free stl files I have found online. Curious if Fusion360 has a simple way to do what I am looking at here. I am getting comfy with what I know to think I could really start working on designing things that would be used in my life. My only gripe with blender is, measuring and setting up connections between objects. From my experience in blender. Yes when you first create a cylinder, or a bevel, or loop cut. Whatever. You can adjust the sizing of everything involved right then and there. But if I want to go back and adjust the sizing of a hole between 2 objects that will be used for nuts/bolts to connect pieces. Going back and adjusting them all seems to be very tedious. Does Fusion360 have a easier/quicker/more intuitive way at creating/applying what would be those holes/recesses for screws/bolts/nuts would be. And if after I have gone through and made the entire thing and want to adjust every single screw hole that was supposed to fit this specific 3mx4 bolt to another size or type, how difficult could that be? Would I have to go and change every thing individually? Thank you.

Question MESH/FORM MODELING QUESTION

how would you do this gradual depth change along the surface of a mask?

I have the overall contour of the mask already done and I am wondering if 3D sketching and then using this as a loft guide rail would be doable. Please share your techniques or guides for this kind of mesh modeling. I have watched learn everything about design in youtube however i got stuck in this part.

Hey there. Im making a chuck e cheese animtronics and there is a slight problem. I added the air cylinders and they were clipping, when you extrude them. So i added contact sets. And it didnt not work. I tried to add it to the main assembly, but it just did not work. So, I added it to an assembly inside of another assembly. And it still did not work. This is my first time. So any help would be helpful!

Boolean refusal?

I would like to make a boolean cut operation to add the same concentric cuts on the circle from the horizontal axis. The boolean operation is refused. In terms of achieving this geometry, it's surprising that Fusion doesn't have a built-in function for concentric circles upon a sphere to begin with, unfortunately all the cuts are manually selected which makes parametric design on a piece like this impossible. The aim is to model a croquet ball as seen in picture 2.

Question Recreating a low-poly model as a smooth body

I am new to Fusion and am making a high quality model of scorponok from the 2007 transformers movie. I found a low poly model online to use as a base but I don't know what tools to use or what to search for online to find the info I need. What would be the best way to tackle this curved "kneepad" part?

Saved a copy of my heat sink assembly - Got this Dali-esque\Escher\Inception piece

The heat sink is just one body. Worked fine the second time I tried it. Weird glitch I've never seen before. Almost expect to see Dr Strange standing on one of them.

The first image shows the sub-assembly in isolation from a much larger assembly in that file. The fact that it had to pick these features out of a couple thousand components might have had something to do with the freak-out. I've found Fusion becomes almost unusable when you have that many parts.

How to create component from body that is not nested

Hi all

Apologies for the noob question. I have a hybrid assembly and I want to create a new component, starting from a copy of an existing body. The problem is that if I create a new component, it nests it under the component where the body is currently. In the image of my browser, I am trying to use "Base (1)" as that starting body and want it as a component under "Veg Basket". But it will put it under "Base_large". I also cannot move it after. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any advice.

Hey everyone,

I saw a post earlier today by u/DeathMachineNH asking how to create this egg-shaped sword pommel with scales in Fusion 360, but I couldn't find the original post again to reply.

Since it was an interesting modeling challenge, I decided to give it a shot and recreate it in Fusion!

Hope this helps u/DeathMachineNH if you're still looking for a workflow, or anyone else tackling similar organic/patterned geometry! Let me know if you need any specifics on the feature tree.

Question How would you approach designing this curved surface in Fusion 360?

Hi everyone!

I've been using Fusion for a while, but I've mostly worked with simple curved surfaces.

Now I want to try designing this element:

Video that shows it better: https://youtu.be/jjMlIieYWlk?si=M5iMt75yBTsjfxgN&t=142

I'm a bit lost on how to approach something like this. If it were flat, no problem at all, but I'm not sure how to tackle that smooth curved surface. Any advice, or good tutorials I could follow to get something like that?

Thanks a lot!

Question Intermediate online fusion course

I’m inbetween my first and second uni year of mechanical engineering on a course using fusion and I have been completely self taught on CAD for a number of years for school so my experience is varied. I am looking for suggestions on a (preferably certificated) online course in fusion to help me get a step ahead on bigger, more complex assemblies that I could site on a CV if this would even be helpful in the job market.

How can I create a gradual 0–1.5mm depth fade on a curved surface in Fusion 360?

Hi everyone! I'm Archie, a 7th-semester Industrial Design student at NID MP, and I'm struggling with a Fusion 360 modeling problem. Would really appreciate some help!I'm trying to recreate the faded/gradient-style detailing shown in the first reference image on the curved surface of my model (second image).I specifically need to do this in Fusion 360 due to certain constraints. I was able to achieve the effect on a flat surface, but I'm struggling to figure out how to do it on this curved surface. The main issue is that the surface has a lot of faces, and I need the depth of the detailing to gradually transition from 0 mm to 1.5 mm. I'm not sure what the best workflow would be for achieving this while keeping the transition clean. If anyone has any advice, knows a good workflow for this, or can point me toward a tutorial/resource, I would really appreciate it!I'm also happy to share the Fusion 360 file if someone is willing to take a look at the actual model and guide me through it.Thank you so much in advance! 🙏
