General information related to Reddit's age verification requirements for specific regions

Snippet of recent news from the pinned weekly recap in r/help - 7/2/2026

https://www.reddit.com/r/help/comments/1ulob97/weekly_recap_july_2_2026/

  • In ongoing efforts to prevent abusive scraping and automated traffic, over the next month, Reddit will start requiring users to log in to use old Reddit. This was announced on Tuesday here.
  • If you are in the EU, you may be asked to verify your age. This is a legal requirement to comply with the EU Digital Services Act. You can check out the Help Center article here. Little more info about this here.
  • If you are trying to use a selfie to verify your age and it fails, the only other options are to upload your ID or contact Persona for support. Reddit cannot help you with a failed selfie for age verification purposes.
  • Right now, these are the countries that have age requirements:
  • If you are not in those countries, but your account is unable to do certain things like chat, it may be due to Teen Safety restrictions. The ability to unlock settings in the iOS app if you're a teen will be coming soon. Not sure if that ability will come to Android.
  • If you need to have something fixed regarding your age, you can use this form and then select your region and what your issue is. I do not know what the turnaround time is on those requests.
  • Some users in the EU are unable to use Anonymous Browsing mode. This is not intentional. This is a bug that they are working on getting fixed.

I posted this info in r/privacy last week, but probably should have posted it here first and then crossposted it over there.

🤷‍♂️Other❓ Is being banned by Reddit official permanently means you can never use Reddit again??

One Redditor I known and chatted for a while has been ban*ed permanently😔

Bc of this I did many research and what I always saw is the 'ban evasion' thing.

But I am very curious,
So does it mean that once one of your account has been flagged permanently,
then you would never has a chance to register a new account , use Reddit again and make post,DM etc??
Would there be a "cooling period" that after a certain period of time you are allowed to make a new account and not trigger the ban evasion?

Thanks so much for answering.

❓General Question❓ Message invite

• Upvotes

Hello! When trying to send a private message to someone I've never talked to before on reddit, I think there was an automated message from reddit about sending a chat invite or something like that. I just sent a regular message. Will the person I wanted to talk to only see an invitation or part of the message or the entire message I sent? Thanks!

🐞 Possible Reddit Bug? My chat permissions always reset to « nobody » when i post? Can someone explain why?

• Upvotes

I did some post recently in some subs, and i’m always told that chats are off. However, each time i correct them so that people can reach out, until i post again where it goes back to « nobody » automatically… does anyone know why?

❓General Question❓ How does top 1% work?

I have seen a lot of top 1% comments but never understood how it worked. Is there a leaderboard for me to check if my comment or post has made it to the top 1% or can I only tell if I get the little top 1% badge?

❓General Question❓ How do Reddit’s automated filters change as an account ages?

I’m trying to understand how Reddit’s automated filtering works for newer accounts.

Is there a point where accounts are less likely to be automatically filtered simply because they’ve established a history of normal activity? If so, is that based on account age, successful posts, moderator approvals, or some combination of factors?

I’m not looking for ways to bypass the filters! I just want to understand how the system determines when an account has built enough trust so I can post more :)

🧛‍♂️Account Issues❓ Help with feed please.

How the f*** do I change my feed. I am a 32 year old accountant. I joined reddit for memes and may be a few accounting or finance related posts.

But all I am getting are gen z, marriage, indian, LGBT, etc recommendations.

Think of me as Hank Hill's but for accounting and finance. How do I change my feed. Have over a 100 blocked communities at this point, Tried see less of this, custom my feed and even added key words to see in my feed.

Is making a new account the only option left.

Any and all advice will be appreciated.

❓HowTo❓ How can I create a community?

• Upvotes

I have a big idea but i don't think so it's under the rules/requirements about the minecraft pvp comm. because it's about the real life of major pvpers like swight coldified, itzrealme, flowitives, and more, and although people have talked about it, i'm just thinking that reddit's filters will remove my post, just like they did to me reposting.

🙏Need Advice❓ If I was to put in a request on r/redditrequest, what sort of modmail message would I need to send?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, r/spaceshuttle has been pretty much abandoned by its moderators (like, there’s legitimately only one and they haven’t said anything in the sub for the past four months), so I’m trying to launch a request to become a mod for the sub. I know you have to send a modmail message to the current mods, but how should I word it?

❓General Question❓ Content restore request

Hi folks! Just got let out of shadowban jail, and was advised by u/Wombat_7379 to make a post in here to request a moderator reach out to the kind admin who's willing to assist in getting posts restored. I'm not entirely sure how much of my profile is gone. Comments still show without any notice of if they're there or not, but I do see that all my posts (both SFW and NSFW) have been removed by Reddit's filters. I rarely, if ever, posted NSFW stuff, so if those don't get restored, it's fine, but if the kind mod could reach out to the kind admin in question, that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

❓General Question❓ Old reddit when not logged in

I'm getting a message when opening old.reddit on a public computer saying I need to be logged in. . .

I'm not going to log in when on a shared computer, or worse use new reddit. How long has this been a thing, and is there a way around this?

(Side question: Is there an actual security rationale for requiring users to be logged in to use old reddit? I mean, other than some what seems to be continued campaign to push people to version of reddit that actually lets you see a list of posts rather than a tik-tok like feed. I'm an old man and I don't like this. I'm going to speak with the manager)

❓General Question❓ Is there any way to get my posts back?

So, my account got banned from Reddit for a couple weeks but I couldn't find anywhere about why or think of any reason why I got banned so I appealed and said "I have no idea what I could have even done," and now my account is back but all of my posts have "been removed by Reddit's filters" and I refer back to some of them for research projects in school so is there any way to "un-remove" them? Or does anyone know if they disappear after a while? Or can I see them forever??? TIA

❓HowTo❓ How can I report an entire subreddit?

Good evening, I came across a subreddit that sexualizes an Italian public figure. Even though the most recent post was made a long time ago, the subreddit is still online. Every single post appears to violate rules regarding sexualization and discrimination. I have tried reporting the posts individually, but the subreddit is still there. What should I do?

❓Problem❓ Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit’s filters?

Hi there! All my previous posts, no matter the sub, show - Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit’s filters. Why did this happen? I haven't broken any rules as far as I know? How do I get them restored? Who do I contact?

❓Problem❓ New posts constantly get filtered after sitewide shadowban is lifted

After I had a wrong shadowban lifted, and had all my previous posts & comments restored (that was also a nuke-out filter), I had a brief period (perhaps 2 days) that I can post normally, but today I found that one post I made after the banlift and one post I made just now are AGAIN filtered!! It says "This post was removed by Reddit's filters." I'm very sure that the sub's mods didn't do that.

When can I get rid of being targeted?

I never posted spam or was banned by any subreddit.

I rely a lot on Reddit to post my art or design stuff to active communities to be seen, will this condition be improved anyway? I genuinely need this to be sorted out.

This is a 6 yr account from a time that the filtering/anti-spam system was much more tolerating. I can't really build a new account and accumulate karma/CQS from scratch now. But if this haunting condition continues, what should I do?

PS: I have a Moderate CQS. (During the 2 day shadowban period, it's Low)

If this is a sitewide issue, should I file a help ticket as I cannot appeal now (I'm not actively banned)? Can I get this problem solved for good?
