Naked and Famous Naked & Famous: Year of the Snake fading/crotch blowout

Camera doesn’t capture everything too well, but I’ve been wearing these for a year now. Tried to take care of them as much as I could and hand soaked them twice (which isn’t a lot). I sit a lot in the library as I study physics and I’ve noticed how much it affects my crotch area, especially since I didn’t machine wash it yet. I will do the latter in about 5 days though (because of my last uni exam). Do I need to worry about this turning into a crop blowout? That area already feels so thin compared to the rest of my jeans and I’m probably going to wash them more frequently from now on, maybe every 1-2 months depending on how often I wear them and lots other conditions like weather and so on.

I’d appreciate any advice, this is my first pair of selvedge jeans and probably did a lot of things ā€œrightā€ and ā€œwrongā€, but it’s a learning curve!

Welcome to the Daily Questions (DQ) thread for all things related to raw denim.

(Although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar (for mobile users, go to the top of the subreddit front page, click the three dots and select "community info") and the wiki before posting!)

Fit checks and "Help me find a pair of Jeans that has X, Y, and Z" questions are a great use of this thread.

(Help figuring out what size you wear is also permitted here but it is recommended you check out one of these tutorials on how to size before asking.)

If you have questions about how your jeans fit, about a particular fabric, when is this jean coming out, where can I find jean X to try on in state Y, what jeans have this fit with these measurements, what jeans fade the fastest, and what jeans fade the slowest are great uses of this DQ thread.

Momotaro Momotaro Standard Straight (MMJB0100) - Thoughts and Measurements

Hey Y’all

I’ve been looking at buying a very clean, full cut pair of jeans, and decided on these from Momotaro. I also have a formality standard at work, and the regularity of the denim was appealing. In the pictures, the new pants are with the blue shirt, the altered pants are with the orange.

Separately, it was my first time ordering from Blue Owl, and I also found their measurements to be really excellent, way different than from Momo’s actual store. It was their denim search tool that led me to these in the first place, as I like a 12ā€ rise on a 30-31ā€ waist, which eliminates a lot of ā€œhigh riseā€ denim. For reference, I am 5’10ā€ 145lbs.

Out of the box, it looks very slick. Little weft shows, and the indigo is dyed very evenly. It also was very smooth. There is no twist in the leg, and it falls symmetrically on the leg. The stitching seems quite even to my eye, and the indigo patch really adds to the styling of these pants as dressy as jeans can be.

The measurements for a new size 30 were as follows:

Waist - 31.1
Front rise - 12.1
Thigh - 11.9
Knee - 9.5
Hem - 8.7
Inseam - 34.3

I then did a hot cycle in the washer with no soap. I do this as I have found soaking does not remove all the vertical shrink vs a wash cycle in a machine, which is how I prefer to clean my pants. I also did not want to end up with too short pants after a hem, a mistake I have made before. The color remained nearly identical but the texture became a bit hairier. It did not add any twist.

The post wash measurements:

Waist - 31.0 (it was 30.6 fresh out the wash, but stretched after one wear)
Front rise - 11.8
Thigh - 11.7
Knee - 9.5
Hem - 8.5
Inseam - 33.1
Inseam (after hem) - 32.0

I am satisfied with how it turned out. The hot wash settling the waist at 31ā€ works well, as if it stretched past that it might be too big. It also helped with the diaper ass. I am a fan of the style, and the pants do fill the niche I intended them to.

As a final note, I am confident I won’t be buying any wider. I try to stay somewhat cognizant of how heritage wear and selvedge denim appear to people who don’t share our interest, and these pants exist on the border between style and costume. You can find other posts where people grapple with that tension when trying out these jeans. With all clothes, consideration has to be made towards what matches, but with these, there are definitely other articles of clothing I now see that I can’t wear together or it would look too conspicuous for the style I’m trying to present. For anybody who prefers to dress uniquely but not ostentatiously, that would the only consideration I’d have before buying.

I'm more of a boot nerd but I've been becoming a bit of a denim head the passed couple years. I wore these die hard double knees in 14.5 oz shogun stretch from Brave Star Selvedge from October to April non-stop then they had a little sebatical while I tried to make the time to patch them up, which I did last weekend. Glad to be back in them. They're so comfortable. Fades are great. Definitely one of my favorite pairs of pants ever. Anyways, heres a bunch of pictures from present day going in reverse.

Need advice

Hi everyone I need some help, I bought these for 666s 21/23 extra heavy weight denim from iron heart since I heard they’re not bring it back anymore(unsure if this is true).

I saw someone post the same pants on this thread and someone in the comments said that they’re supposed to pre soak them before wearing them, is this true?. I’m only asking because I don’t want to mess up the pants which I know it’s hard to do but still I don’t wanna waste 400 dollars. Also I can’t button up the button fly it’s so hard, any tips on how to button it up easier.

Nudie Nudie Jeans – Gritty Jackson Dry Sunburns, 8 months in, first wash – now or wait for more contrast?

Picked these up back in November and have been running them raw since, no soaks, no spot cleaning, just regular wear. Summer means I’ve been able to get a lot more flex time in them lately, sitting, biking, the usual.

I’m noticing some pretty solid whiskering and honeycombs forming at the knees already, fading is coming in faster than I expected. I’m torn on timing for the first wash. Part of me wants to let it develop another month or so since summer wear should speed up contrast even more, but I’m also a bit wary of ending up with that super high contrast ā€œJapan/Indonesia styleā€ look, I’d rather keep things on the softer, more gradual side.

Planning to hand wash in a tub with cold water if/when I do it, no machine, no dryer, just rolled in a towel after and hung to dry flat. Curious what this community thinks: is it better to lock things in now with a wash, or let another month of summer wear deepen the creases first? Photos of the whiskering below.

Any tips on tub soak duration or detergent choice for a first wash are also welcome.

FIT CHECK Fullcount 0105XX Fit Check

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,
I recently snagged a pair of Fullcount 0105XX! Everything fits perfectly in the waist and legs, but I’m struggling with the silhouette. Specifically, I’m not happy with how the seat area is fitting. It just doesn't feel flattering on me.
I already tried one warm soak, but unfortunately, I mostly just lost length, and it didn't do much for the fit in the butt.

I’m looking for some advice

**Will the fit change?** Is this something that settles down with more wear, or is the cut just not suited for me?

**Is tailoring the answer?** If the fit is "off," is this a relatively easy fix for a denim-specialist tailor?

**Shrinkage concerns:** I’m now nervous about giving them another warm soak or even a regular wash because I don’t want to lose any more length. Can I expect significant further shrinkage after that first warm soak, or has the majority of it already happened?

I really want these to work out, so I appreciate any tips you can share! Thanks in advance.

My first pair of raw denim. I’ve had these since December 2022 with an unknown number of washes.

I never liked the low rise. My shirts were constantly coming untucked, and they felt a little too tight in the crotch.

I also learned the hard way not to put raw denim in the dryer! They ended up with streak marks. Lesson learned.

Samurai Jeans S310XX19OZ Wide Straight

Thumbnail

Just got these beauty straight from Japan, and I just cannot help glazing them.

I got a true size W36, and it fits perfectly. I must be honest, I have got a lot of jeans, but Samurais never disappoint, still in awe right now.

The fabric is, I think the word "superb" is not even close to describe the pair. These are absolutely perfect (not for summer though, but at least they are wide-leg so much more breathable) and I am not even biased. I think these are the widest cut they have as well so I am pretty happy with them.

The details are so clean as well. All the custom hardwares, the big ass silver selvedge id, not even a single misaligned stitch or excess fabric... love those! The only problem is it comes in 19oz, so they hurt a bit, especially when I try to use them buttonfly.

25oz Samurai regular straight

Bought these from Denimio unwashed. Im 6'3" 250lbs and usually wear a 38 in samurai but the size chart indicated id need to size up x2. Never wore anything heavier than 20 oz so am pretty excited. It arrived in 4 days from ordering. The waist is about an inch from what I want so I soaked them for an hour in the hottest water my bath would produce whilst agitating every 15 min. Rolled them in a towel and pressed then let them air dry in my guest room over night. Fit much better. Love the deep indigo color and all of samurai details. These seem to sit low unlike my other pair of samurai but its not an issue. They really dont feel like 25 oz. Anybody else have these?
