I lost my beautiful girl on May 25 and it has been lonely ever since. When I was 11 my dad took her from the yard of a man who bred dogs for fighting. He brought her back to the car and sat her in my lap. She peed on me immediately. In October I bought my first home and she came to live with me. We established a daily routine and I was immensely grateful to spend each and every day with her. I never took a moment for granted and would spend as much time with her as I possibly could. I work from home so this meant all day everyday. She would sleep beside me every night and we had this night time routine where she would be sassy when I would take too long to get to bed. She loved to sleep in so usually I would wake her up and we’d snuggle but on the times where she’d wake up first she’d lay right on me and we’d cuddle. She would’ve been 14 tomorrow. I thought I had more time… I thought she would’ve made it through the summer. I am grateful she made it through my birthday. That night was the last night we ever slept in the bed together and it was the greatest gift of all. Leading up to her passing she was struggling to walk and get around, but I truly believe she struck it out for as long as she did for me. Some days are harder than others, but honestly I don’t want it to get easier because that would mean I’m getting acclimating to my life without her. I am so grateful I got to know her and the life we shared. I really hope heaven is real and I will be reunited with her. I love you forever my Lucy Goosie

My baby was only about 4 weeks old when I adopted him 3 days ago and we don't know why he passed away. It was cruel, his face got twisted in a weird angle and he was spasming and even screamed in pain. My poor angel. He was so loving and playful and I pray no rabbit owner ever witnessed what I witnessed. Just wanted to share my little bundle of joy before he passed.

My heart is so broken today. 💔
Chichi and Jericho suddenly passed away today. They were sharing the same room at the shelter. Chichi passed peacefully in her sleep, and then Jericho suddenly started having a nosebleed and passed away shortly after.
The shelter owner and caretakers told us that neither of them had shown any symptoms before today. They had good energy, healthy appetites, were eating well, and taking their vitamins. Everything happened so fast.
I honestly don't even know what to say.
This hurts so much.
The shelter they were staying at was actually such a wonderful place. It was always clean, they were well cared for, they had room to move around, good food, and people who genuinely loved them. I know they were safe there.
But I can't erase the damage that years of neglect did to your little bodies. I can't undo the years you spent abandoned, crammed into a tiny cage, or everything your previous owner put you through. Maybe the damage had already been done long before we found you. I don't know. I really don't know anymore.
I was finally starting to feel hopeful. We had just started receiving adoption applications for some of our other rescued dogs, and for the first time in a while, it felt like things were looking up. Then today happened, and it just broke me all over again.
..
Even through all this pain, I find comfort in knowing that your last chapter was nothing like your first. You weren't forgotten anymore. You got to experience kindness, full meals, new playmates, and the freedom you were denied for so many years.
Run free now, Chichi and Jericho. I'm so sorry I couldn't give you more time. Thank you for letting me be part of your journey. You were loved so deeply, and you always will be. 🤍🌈
💔
P.S.
We will get MaeMae checked by the vet.

Today we had to make the hardest decision of our lives and say goodbye to our baby girl, Burberry.
She was diagnosed with Stage C heart disease, and when her condition suddenly deteriorated, we rushed her to the emergency vet. There wasn't anything more that could be done, and the kindest thing we could do was let her go peacefully. Even though I know it was the right decision, it feels unbearable.
Burberry was a dwarf Persian that we rescued from a dumpster about 2-3 years ago. When we first found her, the vets thought she was only around 8–10 months old, but later believed she was likely between 5 and 8 years old. We never knew her exact age, but to us she was always just our tiny baby.
She had the sweetest temperament I've ever known. She never hissed, scratched, or bit anyone. She adored attention, chin scratches, being hand-fed, and she had the softest, sweetest little meows. She would happily let us clip her claws or clean the little eye boogers from her face without ever complaining.
She had so many funny little quirks. Despite having a luxurious bed, she'd rather sleep on the floor or on her favorite cardboard scratcher. She loved playing with crumpled tin foil and lollipop sticks more than any expensive toy. She'd sit and watch my mom cook as if she was supervising dinner, and she always had to be involved in whatever we were doing. If we were watching TV or on our phones, she wanted to watch too. She'd make her little rounds through the house just to check on everyone.
Her name was Burberry, but most of the time we just called her "Baby," and she always responded.
I can't stop thinking about the moment after she passed. I kissed her little head goodbye, and she was still warm. That moment keeps replaying in my mind. It doesn't feel real. It feels like she's supposed to come around the corner any minute asking for scratches or following us into another room.
We haven't even been able to move her half-eaten food yet because everything happened so suddenly. Just hours earlier we thought we were taking her to get help, not to say goodbye forever.
She was our first pet, and we loved her with everything we had. We spoiled her endlessly because she deserved it. I keep asking myself why something so gentle, innocent, and loving had to suffer from such a cruel disease. It just doesn't feel fair.
For those of you who've lost your first soul pet... how did you cope? How did you accept that they were really gone?
Thank you for reading about our sweet little Baby. I hope, wherever she is now, she's healthy, pain-free, getting endless chin scratches, and surrounded by all the crumpled tin foil balls and cardboard scratchers she could ever want.
We miss her so much already.

Today was the day I knew would eventually come, the day I had to say goodbye to Riley.
Making new memories with Riley end today but I have ENDLESS amounts of them to hold on to till the day I die. The most I'll miss about her is when I would get home from work she would act like she hasn't seen me in weeks, I was the joy in her life and she was mine.
Riley was the only dog I have ever owned and its hitting me pretty hard right now. I've had to put my cat down many years ago but a dog just hit different.
I just wanted to vent a little bit and just let everyone know to give your pup a hug and love them hard!
RIP Riley 2014-2026

Her name was Chanel. She was only 5 years old. We were on a road trip back home (halfway along the total length) and stopped at my mother to spend a few days and celebrate my mother's birthday.
After watching the world cup final, we started cooking dinner and my mother heard shouting from the neighbors. She rushed over and found my baby girl lying on the grass, heavily injured. I picked her up and drove to a 24h vet, but she arrived already dead. Might even have been dead before I even left the house, but I didn't have time to think it through.
My mother's huge dogs attacked her, we don't know why or how. It was very unusual for her to be far away from us. We don't know what she was doing out there in the yard all by herself. My mother's dogs had never shown aggressiveness towards mine.
She was originally my sister-in-law's, but after sil had a baby they no longer had time or energy to take care of her. Chanel got very sick and she and her husband did nothing. So my wife and I took her over to the vet, she had blood transfusions and stayed in ICU for a few days. She had some sort of autoimmune disease, her blood cells were being eaten way. I guess her time had come and we were able to buy her just about 1.5y more on this Earth.
She was my pretty princess and always will be. We'll miss her scratching our hands to drop the phone and pet her and her crazy energy around the house.

Lost our favorite little doofus Finn today. Last week I lost my grandmother. I was not ready to compound the grief. My wife is inconsolable and I am out of words of comfort. This is our seventh rescue English bulldog and it never gets easier. His sister Olive is still trying to figure out where her brother went and so are we. Mangy, a belly full of rocks, cleft palette and wandering the streets of Miami is how we found this little guy and my word how he blossomed into an amazing member of our family. He will leave a difficult to fill hole in our lives.

Yesterday I lost my bestie. She was 14 and past away in my arms. I am absolutely devastated. She has been there for me through some of the most horrible times in my life. She was there for me when my mum died, my marriage failed and was there for my 3 redundancies and my health scares. She was always a smiling happy face. When I was in a shit mood she always made me feel better.
I am really really going to miss that smelly, big eyed girl who just knew how to make me happy. RIP Kizzy, you will be so missed and always in my heart and thoughts.

I almost never post anything on the internet, but this time I’m driven out of my mind by grief and the loss of my cat—tomorrow it will be two months since she passed.
My cat Frida was only 6 years old. She had chronic bronchitis, but it was already under veterinary control. She was the first pet I adopted all on my own at 25, and she was my princess, my world.
I **adored** that cat; even though she didn't like sitting or lying on top of humans and was quite sensitive (she was scared of practically everything), she purred like a truck and was the sweetest soul in the world and the most beautiful tricolor cat. She was by my side through 3 moves, breakups and a depression, and I truly thought she’d be with me for at least another 6 years.
On May 19, 2026, when we woke up, my boyfriend noticed Frida had vomited a couple of times and was acting strange; she wasn't moving around much and hadn't eaten her dinner from the night before. I took her to the vet that same morning, and they told me it was likely gastritis, that she should improve by the afternoon, and to bring her back tomorrow if she stayed the same. But by the afternoon, she was worse. She barely responded to me and was hiding, so I rushed her to the emergency vet, and they admitted her. The next day, they told me she had pancreatitis and a fever, and that if she tolerated the feeding tube well by the following day, we could take her home (she wasn't eating anything). She was completely lethargic, and I was inconsolable—I just wanted my cat with me, and I was terrified she might die. That night, they called us to say she wasn't doing well. We ran over, had a conversation with the vet (which I don't remember at all), and I found her lying down, eyes open, having seizures. They told me she was in a comatose state. I barely remember what I said to her—that I loved her so much, that I was so sorry, and to wait for me.
Everything happened so fast; they administered the euthanasia, and in a second, she was gone. Only 48h later. I have never cried as much in my life as I did in that moment, when we said goodbye, and in the days that followed, i thought I would die. I lost 2 kg in a week and had to take medical leave from work for 3 weeks because I couldn't sleep or eat. The only "comfort" I have left is that she twitched the tip of her tail when she heard my voice as I said goodbye—something she used to do whenever I spoke to her while she was sleeping.
Since then, my life has been a living hell. It’s true that I can function in general now, but whenever a wave of grief hits me, I spend the entire day in terrible shape, crying and unable to believe that my baby girl is no longer with me and that she's never coming back. I just can't comprehend it. I feel as if my heart has been ripped out of my chest. I don't care about anything at all; I hate my life because she isn't here, and nothing makes me happy. I also feel quite alone; several of my friends don't understand (and are even annoyed by) the fact that I'm so heartbroken over the death of my cat. I have so much rage inside, and I'm afraid of getting into fights with people because I truly don't feel like myself. I just want to make everyone who doesn't understand pay, and take revenge on the world for taking away one of the things I loved most in this life.
This Reddit thread has helped me so much. I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your pets. Only those who have been through it know how utterly devastating it is.
*EDIT: I didn't expect so many comments and kind words. Sorry I don't reply to you all cause you are a lot, but I have read all of you and I only can say THANK YOU, I wish I could hug you all. I have cried a lot with your comments but I felt so understood, you are all beautiful pepole and I am SO SO sorry for all your losses, my heart is really with you too. If anyone needs to talk can DM me. Your comments made me think too and maybe I consider foster some animals this year. We lost our babies and it hurts like hell but I truly feel we will be reunited with them when our time comes. I hope my Frida is not scared of things up there anymore and will be playing with your babies in the meantime.
Love to you all and forgive my english if I made any mistakes (i'm spanish and this is not my first language)

I’ve never experienced such gut wrenching grief. It hurts unbearably for so many reasons. I shared a post previously, to sum things up; my husband and I lost our precious 2.5 year old baby to a rattlesnake bite. I still can’t process that he’s gone…He was everywhere we went. There is this overwhelming emptiness in the house and in my heart. His kitty brother misses him so much, constantly crying out especially at night time. My heart breaks for him, he never got along with my mom’s cat and when I moved out and we got Mako, they became the bestest of friends. I’ve never seen such a bond, i’d never seen my cat be so loving. They were always next to each other and now he is all alone ):
How do you ever truly move forward? Loved ones say they are here for us and that they understand, but none of them understands the pain of losing a dog so suddenly and unexpectedly. Can anyone else here relate? How do you cope with the years and years you dreamed of spending together, that were stolen? This is the hardest part for me. We are having a baby due next month and dreamed of them growing up together. Mako was going to be the best, most gentle, silly, loving companion ever. It’s so unfair. We love dogs and will undoubtedly get another one down the road, but it almost feels wrong to even say that or think of it. They will never ever be him. I just want our bubby back. Just one more kiss, one more cuddle, one more moment to feel his fluffiness.
I’ve never had a dog before. He was my first dog and I was so attached to him. I suffer from anxiety and he soothed me. I joked that he was my emotional support dog but he really was…I find myself trembling and shaking more recently, my chest gets heavy, and I wake up to panic attacks when the image of him after he was attacked pops into my mind. It’s unbearable. I reach out, and he’s not there in bed. I just want to hug him. The weight of yearning to be near him again is just horrible.
I find comfort in the fact that he smiled the whole time. Our boy was so strong and brave we thought nothing was wrong…He just wanted to cuddle. We didn’t even know it was a rattlesnake bite until it was too late and the vet told us 😭 I wish we could have saved you. It feels so stupid, so irresponsible. We have gone to therapy and she told me we cannot beat ourselves up over fate. That we couldn’t have known this was going to happen, and there’s nothing we could have done to prevent it. I just wish I could build a time machine…I wish we were outside and could have scared the snake away. He loved being outside and we put him out often by himself because our yard is fenced. I wish we realized what happened sooner and maybe we could have saved you. We never saw this coming it just hit us like a truck…
I can’t wait until I see you again one day Mako ❤️🩹

After a long 17 years and 9 months we decided that it was time. Our hearts are broken to lose our best friend and we regret our decision. Is this normal? Maddie "Moofasah" Moo was the best girl and had a body that was failing her. Looking for support from others who have gone through something similar.
