Well here I go. Quitting 7-Hydroxy. I've been taking around 1,300MG a day

I have gabapentin and buprenorphine I got from the doctor to help with the withdrawal systems. I have been on this nasty stuff for over 2 years now. I quit for about a week around a year ago so I know it's do able. Not looking forward to it but as much as I'm spending on this crap I be renting another condo somewhere 🤯 any helpful comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm scared and I hate this feeling. I don't see how this stuff has ever been legal to sell at gas stations.

Can't quit because I don't want it enough?

I know my life would be better without it. But it's just one dose in the evening after work, and honestly it's become the highlight of my day - it helps me switch from "work mode" into "chill mode." I'm at 7g/day.

Every morning I struggle to wake up, and I know I'd feel better with healthier habits. But somehow I take it again anyway.

I think the truth is: I don't want it that badly. But I also don't want to feel miserable enough that quitting becomes urgent. Basically - without real suffering, my motivation to stop stays low. Anyone else been in this spot?

I've read the horror stories about people quitting from 20g+, but since I can't feel that pain myself, it doesn't translate into motivation. How did you get past this stage - the "comfortable enough to keep going" phase - before things got worse?

I can stop for like 10 days have been m longest. Withdrawal symptoms sucked but were totally manageable. Sleep and RLS were the things annoyed me the most and pregabalin low dose before bed helps there.

5 Weeks Free!

Today is 5 weeks in to living without kratom after several attempts and relapses this year. I started taking Vyvanse 5 weeks ago (diagnosed ADHD) as a last ditch effort to get off the stuff and guys… it’s working. I’m still cautiously optimistic, I know I’m not out of the woods yet but this time feels so much different. I haven’t had a single craving since starting this medication. Not one. I was worried I would want to abuse this med in its place but that hasn’t been an issue at all. I knew I was using kratom to manage dopamine but I had no idea how much my unmanaged ADHD was ruining my life. I’ve also significantly cut back on weed which is something I thought I’d never be able to say. I hope that there is a way I can thrive without stimulants in the future, but for now I’m just grateful to be able to exist without obsessing over my next dose. Have a great day y’all and NEVER QUIT QUITTING!

Im screwed.

im completely obssesed with 7-oh. i been using it ever since it came out. my tolerance is threw the roof. All i think about is getting more and i need money. i have some right now but i want more. Now the bans coming in literally a week and i tried calling places to go to detox and nobody will take me cuz i got no insurance. I have went in withdrawel a few times and it is insane. imagine your body super warm from the inside and you try to sit or lay still or chill out and your whole body feels like somethings trying to crawl out your skin. the anxiety and desperation when you have none and your sick af and are having a mental breakdown because you got no money so you steal and lie to get whatever you can. even a little 2 pack. this stuff made me a failure and a literal crackhead. i have a addictive personality and this stuff has to be studied on how crazy addictive it is. I got all my helper meds and i guess i got to drop to my knees and get closer to god. maybe everythings actually better on the other side. im just like a scared little kid. these withdrawels are going to end me. ive been through xanax withdrawel and that was pure hell so i know i can do it but this drug is its own kinds beast. thsnks for reading comment any helpful feedback and positivity. Also how it was for you getting off of this. did you use regular kratom? suboxone? i hsve suboxone and clonidine but also have kratom powder which have not even touched the 7withdrawel because kratom is like tea to me

Been lurking on this sun for 3-4 years. Y'all have inspired me through very hard times. I feel we are almost kin at this point. Fighting, sometimes winning, sometimes...still fighting.

Vit C helped, I used Quit K, but a huge help for me, do your research, was enemas and shivambu. For me, it worked. I had to cleanse the gut and colon from that green devil. Will these tools work for you? Maybe, maybe not. Will this sub help? Absolutely. Thank you everyone for their transparency and vulnerability here. I have a deep respect for everyone here. Keep going.

4 weeks down!

This is a weird post for me to make. I had been on Kra for over 10 years, probably 30-40gpd roughly and always told myself that Id be taking it for the rest of my life. I really thought that I started it to relax and to sleep well, and I couldn’t without it. Im realizing now that I think I was causing myself more issues and fixing none of them.

The first couple weeks were really rough. Edibles were the only thing to help me get some sleep, but I’ve never really been a fan. I quit them after the second week because I was tired of using something to sleep like I had been for years. I figured I would just end up back in a similar position so I decided to tough it out. It was not easy getting used to my nighttime routine without anything other than melatonin and magnesium glycinate.

I feel like I am finally getting back to being myself. I cannot remember the last time I slept this good. I am literally falling asleep within 10 minutes of laying down and having insane dreams. It’s been so refreshing, I feel like I could cry when I wake up and realize I didn’t toss and turn all night. I’m excited for the days again and everything feels better. I realize now I was spending most of my days thinking about when I was going to first dose. I’m less irritable and anxious. I want to go and do things instead of rotting at home.

I do still think about it sometimes, but I realize now that there weren’t any benefits that I can remember. I never imagined being in this spot. I wish everyone the best of luck, I can’t recommend it enough.

Day two RLS

I didn't take it before work last night at 8pm and I've been doing that for 6 years, and I didn't take it when I got home at 6am and I've been doing that for 6 years, too. I'm quitting, but man. Working nights and trying to sleep in the day has been pretty rough already for the past 5 years for me and never really got much better. So having my leg nerves all fire off and tingle and knees incredibly hot... It's just a bad time.

I see the typical time frame for this uncomfort is usually a few days. What's other people's experience with RLS and quitting?

Just a little motivation

If anybody had told me that kratom would dull my 'opioid receptors' i would have never touched it

i had my gallbladder taken out yesterday and because i used probably damn near toxic levels of extract every day for years, and just recently started to taper, the opioids they sent me home with aren't touching any of it. they had to keep giving me more and more meds during surgery because my heart was freaking out i guess from the pain.

Get that crap out of your system and get healed before you end up like me

Day 42 update CT from 30-50gpd. Still clean, still not fully myself, but finally sleeping again.

Hey everyone,

I posted here around day 19 after quitting cold turkey from roughly 30-50gpd. I’m a 30 year old guy from Germany with 8 herniated discs. Before kratom I was on oxycodone for about 3.5 years, usually 80-100mg a day.

I got off oxy and switched to kratom thinking it would make things easier. It did for a while, then I got stuck on kratom for about 9 or 10 months. I never weighed it. Just heaped teaspoons every 4 to 5 hours, ordering kilos and going through them like it was nothing.

I ended up quitting cold turkey because I went on vacation to Italy and found out kratom is highly illegal there. So day one of vacation became day one without kratom.

That first week was hell. Runny nose, sneezing, insomnia, heart racing every time I almost fell asleep, restless legs, nerve pain, cramps, flu symptoms, anxiety and maybe one hour of sleep per night. I was at the sea with my wife trying to act like I was having a normal vacation while inside I was falling apart.

When I got home it got worse again around day 12 or 13. Sweats, panic, pain, no sleep, no joy, no energy. Around day 19 I still felt completely wrecked.

So this is my update.

Day 42

I have not touched kratom once since day one.

Not once.

I also have no intention of touching it again. I know people say that a lot, but after this withdrawal I would honestly rather deal with life being boring than go back to dosing green powder every few hours.

The progress is there, but it is slow. Slower than I hoped.

Some days were almost okay. Other days were really, really bad. Like lying around with brutal back pain, no motivation, no happiness, no concentration and this weird empty feeling where everything feels flat.

It’s not acute withdrawal in the same way anymore. It’s not the same horror as the first nights. But it still feels like something in my brain is missing.

The dopamine thing is strange

One of the hardest parts is realizing how weird normal life feels without the artificial push every few hours.

When you spend months getting little fake reward spikes all day, life without them feels so monotone. Work, eat, sit around, sleep. Everything feels the same.

Movies, TV, PlayStation, random stuff I normally liked. I try to do something and after five minutes I’m bored or annoyed and turn it off.

It feels like my brain forgot how to enjoy normal things.

I know that sounds dramatic, but that is honestly how it feels. Like the world is still there but the reward system is offline.

Bupropion

I started bupropion around 3 weeks ago and I think it is slowly starting to help.

It is not magic. I don’t wake up feeling amazing. But my drive is coming back a little. Things are not quite as dark as they were before.

I still get brain fog and I still feel unhappy and empty sometimes, but I can feel a small shift. Like my system is trying to turn back on.

Sleep finally improved

This is probably the biggest improvement.

For the last 8 or 9 days I’ve been getting tired at night like a normal person and sleeping around 6 to 8 hours.

That alone is huge.

Before that I was scared of every night because I knew I would just lie there exhausted, restless and miserable. Now I can actually get tired and sleep.

I still wake up not fully refreshed, but it is much better than being awake all night with my heart racing.

Pain is still a big problem

My back pain has been really bad. My neck too.

I have 8 herniated discs so I knew pain would be part of this, but without kratom covering it up the pain feels loud again.

My normal doctor has been back from vacation for about 8 days now and I still haven’t managed to go in and properly talk everything through with him. I know I need to. I just haven’t had the energy to organize myself and actually go + a lot work to do...

That is one of the annoying parts of this phase. You know exactly what you should do, but even simple things feel heavy.

Alcohol and cigarettes

This is a weird one.

Since quitting kratom I have also almost completely stopped smoking cigarettes. I didn’t really plan it perfectly. It just happened because cigarettes started tasting worse during withdrawal and I never fully went back.

I also barely drank alcohol except for a few birthdays.

Alcohol feels different now too. I get real hangovers again. I can drink and somehow stay more aware instead of just getting completely wasted. I remember more and I can last longer without falling into that messy blackout mode.

It is hard to explain, but it feels like my body processes things more normally again.

Weight and boredom

I gained some weight.

Not shocking because I’ve been eating a lot to distract myself. When you take away kratom, cigarettes and most of the alcohol, food becomes the easiest little comfort button.

I need to start exercising again badly. I also need a real hobby.

Right now I work and then the rest of the day feels too empty. That emptiness is probably one of the biggest dangers for me. Not because I want kratom, but because it makes life feel flat and sad.

I need to rebuild a life that does not depend on a substance giving me little fake rewards all day.

What got better

Even if this post sounds negative, there are real positives.

I’m saving a lot of money.

I don’t have to carry powder everywhere.

I don’t have to plan my day around dosing.

I don’t wake up already thinking about the next scoop.

My bathroom habits are normal again.

The weird kratom sweats are gone.

My sleep is getting more normal.

I’m not dependent on that disgusting green sludge anymore.

That alone is worth it.

Where I am now

I’m not healed yet.

I’m not one of those people who can say ā€œday 40 and life is amazing.ā€ I wish I could. The truth is that I’m better than I was, but I still feel far from normal.

The withdrawal up to this point has been brutal at times and weirdly subtle at other times. Sometimes it hits like a truck. Sometimes it just changes the whole background feeling of life.

I think my brain will need time to heal.

Probably more time than I wanted to believe.

But I’m still clean. Day 42. No kratom since day one.

I hope the next update is a little more positive.

Day 54

I made a goal that I wouldn’t do anything in June. I wanted to be sober and functional by when kids got out of school so I could enjoy summer. It’s not almost end of July. It’s been a long month and half but I think I’m much better. I can sleep and my legs have stopped throbbing. I still struggle with energy. It’s hard not to want to reach for something and struggle to know I can do all the shit I need to do but I’m doing it. I set a goal and have so far stuck to it.

I’m struggling to remind myself how much I wanted this and what a feat it is that I’m breaking free. I had no clue if I’d make it one day, one weekend, one morning, one night, one event, one anything and now I have many. I’m not perfect, I’m back on add meds which makes me feel weird but I know from previous quits I need to find a way to keep working without reaching for this poison with so much physical issues. I don’t plan to be on it long term but it’s helping me to maybe treat what I thought I was solving all along.

I couldn’t deal with tapering this time. It’s so slow and hard I just wanted off. To jump to getting free and not beating myself up and obsessing with logging a taper. Thats just me. We all have our own way.

So grateful to all the stories and support. Thanks to all!

Day 90 (3 months) No 7oh: Cold Turkey

• Upvotes

I don’t know if this makes sense but maybe it will to anyone else who’s been off of this stuff as long as me or longer, but the past 3 months have both felt like an entire year and no time at all at the same time. One thing I’m noticing is a level of focus that I never had, even on 7oh. I also feel different in a good way, but I don’t know how to describe it. I was taking 7oh for 2+ years, and since I quit I’ve been recovering physically and mentally, but now I think I’m returning to my old normal before the substance. It almost feels like when I took 7oh near the end of my addiction when it wasn’t making me high anymore, but also different. I feel way more stable. There haven’t been ups and downs between doses. I used to be super depressed and anxious between doses, take a lot of it, and get so wired that I was irritable. Now my mood is just smooth and steady throughout the day. I also feel like I had more anxiety when I was taking 7oh tbh. Depression is just about gone too, but I still have days here and there where my mood is lower than usual. Nothing nearly as bad as what I felt on day 30 though. I’d say the anhedonia has been pretty damn stubborn though, because it’s still hard for me to perform tasks that are rewarding but require more concentration and cognitive function. I can watch shows all day, but I still want to get back into drawing, playing video games, writing, that sort of thing. I really feel like that stuff was slowly making me less happy looking back on it. After a while you stop getting high, and your baseline lowers. That process continues as your tolerance builds, and at this point I think I was less happy at the end of my addiction than I am now as I’m still recovering mentally. I used to think that even though it wasn’t getting me buzzed anymore I was at least taking it to prevent withdrawals and make me feel ā€œnormalā€, but I think continuing to take it only prevented withdrawals and made me feel a little lower than normal. By that I mean, I wasn’t quite as happy or clear as I otherwise would be if I wasn’t addicted to it or taking it at all. In the long run I think this stuff slowly drives your mood and mental faculties into the ground as your baseline lowers more and more. A lot of people get intimidated when they hear that it takes months to mentally recover from PAWS, but you might be surprised to find out at month 3 that you already feel better than you did when you took that garbage, and you’re still improving. It doesn’t mean that you’re going to suffer constantly for months, and you aren’t going to be depressed and anxious all the time. I promise you, when I still took it I would wake up withdrawing in the morning and feeling way worse anxiety/depression than I ever do now, and even when I did take it to make those feelings go away I would only feel ā€œhappyā€ for a couple of hours max. Then it’s a SHARP crash until I take my next dose. I honestly feel like I was less happy at that time than I am now, and I’m so glad that I had the strength to put it down. There are better days ahead, hold onto that. šŸ”„

My bf has been struggling to quit kratom

Before I knew him he was messing with harder stuff which he turned to after his best friend passed away when they were both 17. Fast-forward he mostly quit drinking and hasn’t went backwards at all, but he used kratom to get off of everything else and is really struggling to quit the kratom. The withdrawal is really hard for him please if anyone has tips or ideas to help get through it we would be greatly appreciated ā¤ļø! I’m not sure exactly how much he’s taking daily but I know it’s a lot and he probably spends close to if not more than $200 a month on it.

Day 30, Back to Normal + Meds/Supplements that helped me immensely

Howdy folks, it’s day 30 and I’m feeling totally back to normal. To be honest, I was feeling much better about a week ago, so at about the 21 day mark I was feeling much better. The last lingering symptom that I had was sleep and it’s normalized itself again without medication assistance.

I figured I’d share what helped me get back to normal so quickly and what helped me get through WDs with relatively few intense symptoms. I’m hoping this post can just help people make a decent game plan for WD and honestly reassure folks that it does get better. I was absolutely terrified my sleep was never going to get back to normal and I’d feel anxious and low forever but at about the 3 week mark I was feeling way better and even more like myself.

For reference, my usage Hx: 60gpd, MIT-15 + 7OH tablets x 3 years

Rough list of my WD symptoms that I did have:
-insomnia (3 weeks)
-intense anxiety and low mood
-very high libido (unexpected, has settled down some, somewhat uncomfortable)

Supplements/Meds that I did take that helped immensely (obviously do what you feel is best, you guys know your own bodies the best, but these are just some things that I felt helped me immensely and prevented a good deal of the evil WD symptoms)

1.) clonidine
-this med is the difference between a life and death painful WD. Clonidine prevented RLS, sweats, shaking, and even helped me to go to bed in the first few days. You can very easily get a script for it via telehealth bc it’s not a controlled substance and it’s used for like so many other conditions (ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, High BP) and just so happens to be used off label for Opiate WD. This med genuinely saved me during that first week.

2.) NAC
-this supplement sped up the detox process tremendously. I took about 2 1000mg capsules daily and it helped so much with my stomach issues AND respiratory issues. So fun fact, bc opiates depress the respiratory system, you can get a form of sleep apnea unknowingly and it can stop your breathing during slumber. NAC works to keep your lung tissue healthy and specifically targets it to detoxify the mucus from opiates and other harmful substances. It will also help your liver do its job tremendously.

3.) a benzodiazepine
-unfortunately, I received an infusion of this via IV in the ER because I had such severe insomnia from the WDs and I was beginning to hallucinate music from the lack of sleep, but when I did get the infusion it was like I had been kissed by god, I finally was able to get 8 hours of sleep after like 3 days of no slumber. If you have a PCP or psychiatrist, just be honest with them to the best of your ability because the indicated treatment for WD is actually by the book a benzodiazepine, so they aren’t inclined to deny you treatment with this med because it is by the book what they are taught to use. It helps calm the mind tremendously and I wish I had spoken with a psychiatrist/my PCP before deciding to quit CT to get a script to help the insomnia and very intense anxiety.
If I had to go through WD again, I would have prepared by getting a benzodiazepine script ahead of time.

4.) white chestnut + valerian root

-Both of these herbs after about the 7th day helped me sleep at night tremendously, both have an impact on the portions of your brain that produce anxiety and insomnia. I will be honest, they were not impactful during my first week of WD because that insomnia is like impossible to fight without clonidine or like a heavy duty sleep med in my opinion, but when your sleep cycle starts to normalize typically in the 2nd week it can help a ton with sleep in my experience

5.) Magnesium Glycinate

-I took about 2 500mg capsules daily starting on my first day of WDs and I’m still taking it. The magnesium glycinate completely got rid of the tight muscles and just general rigidity of the body that i know can happen during WD. I believe it also helped me to sleep during that 1st week when sleep was scare after the 3rd day of WDs and it did help imo with anxiety.

Meds/Substances I did NOT use:

1.) Suboxone
- So, in my experience, my withdrawal was very well managed without the use of suboxone and so I felt no use to add another addictive substance into the mix. The meds above cut like 99% of the WD symptoms that you may experience, so I want folks to know that WDs can be managed very decently without the use of suboxone. Also, something I think people should be cautious about (I am not passing judgement, I’m just seeing to relay things I have heard from healthcare providers in the past), having a suboxone script in your medication history list can limit you from accessing certain types of care. While it’s not fair in the slightest, healthcare providers may deny you pain medication after surgery, be unwilling to prescribe certain kinds of anxiety and depression meds, and a lot more just because they associate suboxone = addiction. I haven’t seen anyone talk about that on here, and so I just wanted to make people aware that this is a very real possibility that people should consider before deciding to pursue suboxone treatment. Again, NO JUDGMENT if you needed suboxone for your WDs, I just want people to be aware of the implications it could have on your future healthcare and that it is totally possible and feasible to go through WD without suboxone.

I know this is a very long and exhaustive list with huge explanations but I really wanted to put a list of stuff that helped me with through explanations so if someone was suffering and just didn’t know how to plan for WD like me that this could offer some guidance. If you guys have any questions or just want some encouragement, please don’t hesitate to DM me.

It DOES get better you guys, I’m proud of each and every one of you whether you’re just a lurker on this sub or actually going through WD, I know it’s not easy, but you aren’t alone and you will make it through this ā¤ļø

going for the quit today

From 30-40 gpd and 5+ feel frees a day only 3 weeks ago to tapering to now around 4-7 gpd. I woke up today took 2g and now its 3pm and I think I'm gonna try and make the jump.

Didn't plan for it to be today but my partner is working tonight. Tomorrow should be a simple day at work. Just wanted to post here to try and hold myself accountable . I can already feel the RLS kicking in and shivering even though its 100+ degrees though so I may be in for one hell of a night

Final attempt to quit this once and for all!

I have tried quitting Kratom over the course of a year and failed every single time. It started off with the OPMS extracts, then like the idiot I am it ended horribly with a full dependency on 7OH. I tried quitting so many times I even took weeks off work this year and I always ended up back on 70H. The withdrawals are the worst thing I’ve ever experienced aside from being cheated on. I never knew withdrawals. Were that bad. I tried to endure I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t eat. I was physically hot and cold at the same time. It doesn’t make sense and I couldn’t stop sweating. And overwhelming depression and burden was on me every second of every day and there was no relief. I even got a prescription to hop on some SUBs to help me quit and to be honest the withdrawals were so bad. I didn’t even bother continuing the subs. I kept raising my dose, but my doctor was adamant that I don’t but the withdrawals I couldn’t endure…. Now I have a large supply of the magical supplement that starts with the letter S. I’ve been taking 500 mg every single day.. today is the first day I begin tapering my dose. I have to quit now or else I will ruin my life. My daily intake of 70H was 2000 mg. Today I only took 1000 mg and 500mg of the magical supplement. I am using the 7OH tapering calculator.. tomorrow I will lower it from 1000 mg to 500mg. 70H is now being banned in NYC so I won’t be able to get any more after this month. I need to start taping now or else I will suffer from those horrible withdrawals again. Please hold me accountable. I am posting this publicly. I will quit. in Jesus name, I WILL QUIT!!!!

Frequent Night Urination - The "Canary in the Coal Mine" ?

Looking for some input. How many folks suffer from frequent night urination? That particular symptom appears to be among the first clear signs of a problem with the kratom.. the "canary in the coal mine". There are lots of other potential symptoms that come later but... I am wondering how many other people have the problem (and it went away when you stopped).

I stopped using kratom (with medical assistance) after 10 years of use. About 2 years into my addiction, I started peeing too much at night. I did not associate kratom with the night urination. Rather, I blamed it on drinking too much coffee and water. 3 nights after I stopped using... the pee problem went away completely and I am sleeping a LOT better.

Search "kratom and kidney liver damage". Where was the government when they were allowing that crap to be sold? It seems about as deadly long run as alcohol, frequently causing liver and kidney failure (!!!)

Taper sleep situation

Ok so here I am 5 days before my 40th birthday acting like a damn fool having to taper off a 7oh habit that did me really good for a year when I really needed but now does not serve me. I was always aware of not going ape shit on my doses and kept it at 30mg tabs totally between 180mg to 210mg. I’ve started the taper for the past three days of which I am very proud and keeping myself down to 90 mg today will be my 60mg. I’ve been supplementing with a single zana chill in the mornings. Haven’t slept for 3 nights and it’s ridiculous. I want to be off completely by my 40th on the 28th and have a package of s r landing tomorrow when this last bottle of 7 is gone. Hoping I can hold tight for a few more nights and get this over with. All I want is to be done. I want to be done and heading toward healing for my 40th. I’ve kicked alcohol crack and h in the past. This one feels so weird compared to those. Almost more mental which in a way makes it more draining. Wish me luck.

Sadly started 7OH

So I’ve been tapering powder (I’ve been off and on for years), I’ve successfully stopped in the past but never remained off it so really trying to stop it for good this time, so building up tools to make sure I don’t return to it.

I have a great supplement regimen that has helped as I’m also tapering other prescription medications at the same time.

The issue is a couple weeks ago I got injured and was in So much pain I picked up some 7OH.

I took it for a couple days, stopped, then bought more.

I’ve been taking it every day for a week so I’m assuming as long as I stop like now I should be relatively ok

But I’m curious if yall think I’ll have any withdrawals from doing it for a week?

I can see why this stuff is so addictive. My tolerance SHOT up and I dropped like $200 in the span of a few days so I’m trying to get ahead of it

Walk-in clinic

I live in the state of Florida and been on leaf kratom for years now on and off. With all the bans going on in the country I been thinking about getting off. Has anyone experienced with walk-in clinics or hospitals and what medications worked and didn't work. I like to get peoples opinions.

How to deal with the isolation.

One of the hardest parts about going through this is the isolation. Sure this sub is amazing and always supportive but it's really hard when that's all you have.

I can tell my wife is getting tired of hearing about it and my struggles. She was very supportive in the beginning but now she just changes the subject if I bring it up. It's my fault for getting myself in this mess so I guess it's up to me to pull myself out of it. Only have myself to blame.
