Beyond excited for this 32 map pack reimagining Quake led by Ionous. I have been a keyboard-only player for a few years now, restricting myself to Doom. I will be getting a mouse to play this! https://www.slipseer.com/index.php?resources/tremor.614/

help Looking for best way to play the expansions

I've played the original quake on dosbox and it played perfectly. When i tried both the expansions they both constantly crash. Whats the best way to play them in the original format? I cant stand any of the ports or remasters or whatever. They are all slow compared to the original and just lose the vibe for me of the original. I also have crt monitor connected to my pc however i cant manage to get real dos os right now.

media I haven't seen a single person pointing out that the Cycler from Doom: The Dark Ages looks a lot like the Nailgun from Quake 1

funny Do you guys watch the quake enemies fight each other or skip it by shooting them with your weapon?

I prefer watching them fight to the death before finishing one off because it saves ammo

help Are there real players playing Quake 2 multiplayer CTF these days?

And if so, how can I play with a Macbook M1? I'd love to relive the joy of playing multiplayer CTF and grapple hooking everywhere. I'm not interested in playing with bots though.

opinion I wish the Quake 1 Remaster included an ID vault like Q2

Full disclaimer: I like Quake 1 more than 2, but I love them both. However, the ID Vault on Q2 is incredible. Being able to see all the weapons with their old and remastered counterparts, PLAYABLE E3 demos (!!), the unused models, etc - I really wish this existed for Q1. What are your thoughts?

wtf I've heard a right-handed player can learn to play an FPS left-handed in about a month and have near-normal performance in two months. What do you guys think?

I thought this would be a fun challenge and as an added bonus I could use the arrow keys instead of wasd for movement.

Do you guys think a month for decent performance and two months for near-normal is feasible?

I'm playing Quake 1 for the first time, the Nightdive remaster, so what better game for this challenge and even normal difficulty is sure to be brutal if I'm trying to learn the game for the first time and do it left-handed too. So it should be interesting lol.

wtf QUAKE (Game Boy Advance Prototype) | The Story of Quake on the Game Boy Advance Made by Randy Linden

Thumbnail

This is the prototype of Quake for Game Boy Advance made by Randy Linden in 2002. Upon booting the game, we can instantly see how impressive this demo is for the hardware, with its capabilities effectively managing to outshine just about every 3D game out there that was released for the system. Not only that, it feels exactly like a Quake game. From the guns to the environments. You can even dive underwater! The game is fully 3D rendered, rather than the ray casting method most GBA games are known for. It has 3D enemies, animations, and point lighting effects (even on pre-rendered objects like weapons, which use a clever palette-changing trick to achieve the illusion of dynamic lighting). The camera and movement work is equally as incredible; it travels very cleanly, as opposed to being jittery.

I was playing the first expansion like I always do and this one doggo one shots me when I have 95 armor and 92 health. Is this one of this ID Tech jank or did I get severely unlucky?

opinion Call it a skill issue, I really hate the Machinegames expansions

Post image
36 Upvotes

I am no means a great quake player, hell I play on controller and these Machinegames expansions have been the hardest challenge I've ever had to face in this game. So many enemies, little health packs, stingy ammo. And they throw so many mid to high tier enemies at you in the third map I rage quit several times. Because of a grenade hitting me from around a corner, being swarmed by death knights and regular knights. This goes for Quake II also. The expansions had hardcore players in mind first.

Art I grew up in a religious household and found this old article about Quake 2

Post image

I remember reading this as a kid, and all it made me want to do was play Quake 2. It sounded like so much fun lol.

This was the Jehovah’s Witnesses religion. They had articles they would publish every month. This was an excerpt from one of those.

-edit-

I actually have yet to play Quake at all, and am currently going through everything Doom 1 and 2 have to offer first before going into quake. I’m enjoying the journey a lot and I know I will enjoy Quake a lot.

Currently I’m playing Dark Ages Revelations dlc and also I’m at TNT Evilution Map 3. So far completed:

Doom 1
Doom 2
Sigil
Doom 2 Master Levels

After I finish TNT, Plutonia, Legacy of Rust, then plan to do the Quake series. I’m excited.

media I interviewed Adrian Carmack this week. I will have it up this Friday. He is such an incredibly talented artist and deserves a tremendous amount of credit. In prepping for the interview, I could not find a single one-on-one interview with him before. Looking forward to sharing it! Here is a preview:
