Rule 3 is changing: r/psx is Not the Place to Advertise Your Indie Games
tl;dr the fine print of Rule 3 has been adjusted to explicitly forbid modern indie games unless playable on original hardware (homebrew)
It's my own fault that this change has to be made, I allowed a few "psx-inspired" indie game posts to remain up despite breaking the rules because of the large amount of upvotes they received.
I'd post and sticky comments like "It's off topic but y'all like it so I'll leave it up". My approach to moderation has always been to let the community make content decisions when appropriate. Unfortunately adjustments need to be made to protect the subject matter of this community.
Due to the massive influx of shovelware indie games that are "psx inspired" getting posted here, I'm sorry to say that Rule 3 will have to be more strictly enforced.
From this point forward, for indie games to be posted here they will have to be playable on PSX hardware or an emulator. Games that run on real hardware fall firmly into the category of homebrew, which is perfectly appropriate to discuss here. Games that run in PSX emulators but not real hardware are also allowed. "Retro Inspired" or "PSX Inspired" games that do not fulfill either of those 2 requirements will be removed and the poster will get a 24 hour ban.
The ban is meant to be informative to the poster, not punitive. However repeat offenders will be permanently banned.
Here is a friendly flowchart to help you decide whether or not it's appropriate to post your indie game in this community:

Thank you for reading and thank you for posting. Best of luck in all your indie dev adventures.

Got my LSD PS1 trifecta
Finally got the LSD book. Searched so many years for it and didn't looked much into it so I don't get spoiled. I searched for it for 4 years and saw about 4-5 copies. Super cool and unique stuff in there. Also got the LSD and remixes soundtrack. While it isn't that rare also pretty happy to own it, it's my favorite Osamu Sato album.

One of the most underrated gems on ps1!
A fav of mine and severely underrated classic. I love this game and its bonus level music is still one of the best tracks in a any game lol!

Widely forgotten (Square)classic imo
I rarely see this mentioned anymore so thought to give it some love. To this day its still one of my favs in the genre. Was a main staple in my gaming rotation on the original Playstation. Proud to have it in my collection and hey square enix...hint hint its about time for another 😀
Any Einhander fans left out there?
Edit-Sorry, I deleted the topic i just made instead of an edit so here we go again 😆

Today’s pickups!
Crossed a few gems off the wishlist today. I was really close to buying Brave Fencer Musashi on eBay, but checked one more store and they had a copy in great shape at a fair price.
Last Raven’s insert had water damage, but I’m tired of looking for it, so I bought it anyways.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night is my favorite Castlevania game next to Castlevania 4 despite the loading and when it’s game over

Bought this SCPH-1002 at the flea market this morning. (The bird poop was included for free).
Paid 5 euros, laser is dead but that’s an easy fix. Another project!

Turns out you can swap internals of Dualshock to Dual Analog
Internals from Mitsumi Dualshock fit into Dual analog, just needed to attach big motor holder with super glue and swap motor cables as on Dual analog its on opposite side (small motor wrong way on photo)
And you need to trim few posts on back of the controller where are smd components in the way mostly dpad side.
Now I have best of both worlds 😊

I remixed an XStation mounting bracket for use with the PicoStation (SCPH-1001)
Description (from the upload page):
This bracket was redesigned for the PicoStation, and covers only the 1XXX “phat” PS1 (PU-8) simply because I don't have another motherboard that is compatible with the mod itself at this time. Lots of 7501s, but sadly none that support it.
After paying an arm and a leg, having a number of XStations under my belt I wanted to give this a shot for a while now. I also didn't want to defile an audiophile console but lasers are dying these days so I had one on hand that has been just collecting dust for years. I've been slowly working at this with multiple things holding me up along the way, such as replacing caps, the prep work of lifting the legs on the chip, all that sort of thing. I also didn't have a larger module on hand for full sized SD cards so I guess you'll have to deal with it! Also note that the SD module does NOT use an extension in this model. It is for use directly in the top bracket. I recommend using male/female pinheaders for quick disconnect as a console servicing convenience later.
Diagrams grabbed from all over. Props to the community out there but there is still a lot that isn't readily available in a clear way. I still need to come back to this and cut out what isn't needed and include some others but I'll include what I've collected in the files section for now. Here is one of those helpful resources.
This project was based on RetroGameRevival's XStation mounting bracket. I couldn't really find anything decent for the PicoStation out there and this was probably the best that I could find for the XStation so I chose it over all of the others.
Note that the button portion 'sliding door' will need to be filed down to fit correctly. It's a little difficult to get to fit into place.
These are the type of tact switches I used. 3mm push button.
This video may also be useful for the installation process. The AI generated English voiceover with hilarious random noises is particularly a reason to watch in itself. The bracket in that video is not the one I have edited here, but it shows how to install the portions that go into it. I've been working on this off and on for about a week when I had time and they just happened to be upgrading their setup at the same time. Just stumbled onto it last night while surfing through my YouTube subscriptions.

How and where do you play PS1 games?
Just out of pure curiosity, I've created this fan-made detailed poll, blaffed by how many ways you can (re)play the classic PS1 games.
Would you bother to partecipate with an external link?

Is my PS2 fine?
I experienced times where my Playstation didn't scan my disk, and my only method for it to work is to put something heavy on it just so then it could work, so I can play fifa 12. Which sometimes annoys me because not everytime I put something heavy , it might work. Any tips on how I could get it repaired?

1995 PS1 "Enter Reality" Pre-Release Brochure
Not entirely sure about where this brochure came from, but this 1995 brochure shows off the capabilities of the original PlayStation before its Sep release and highlights some North American launch titles, and interestingly gives a Sep-Oct release date to Wing Commander III, which wouldn't be released until March the following year

I built an open-source PocketStation emulator. It boots a real game, plays audio, and saves without corrupting itself.
Does anyone remember the Sony PocketStation? It's a tiny 1999 PS1 memory-card-with-a-screen peripheral that was only really found in Japan that ran its own tiny downloadable apps off an ARM7TDMI CPU. As far as I can tell there hasn't been a working open-source emulator for it before and so I built one.
The nearest thing I could find out in the wild was a in progress rust implementation. This one is in C because I want it to be usable for patching holes in other projects - libretro being the first of many.
I've tested it with a .mcr ps1 memcard save that has chocoboworld and it seems to run and save correctly without crashing. I could use some help testing - the emulator comes with a pretty good crash log to so if it does go sideways I should be able to fix it.
