Small Problem I love the look of scented candles but hate the smell of smoke

Upvotes

this is such a non-issue but it’s exactly as the title says.

I love the look and atmosphere of scented candles but cannot stand the smell of the smoke when I put them out. it’s so the point where the smoke smell makes me nauseous.

I’ve looked online and a lot of people suggest wax warmers or stuff but it doesn’t have the same vibe and fake electric candles don’t have the nice scents. any advice? idk man

Small Problem YouTube keeps auto-“clicking” to the next video in a playlist.

When I click on the first video of my playlist it shows that it’s playing the second when in reality it’s playing the first. In playlists like these it leads to it only playing the first video when I set the playlist on repeat.

Im not good at this stuff, I literally just made the account for this, but I really need help please, it’s really important for me that the order of my playlist stays the same as long as I’m listening to it.

This only happens when I click on the first video. I’ve tried deleting the app and redownloading, but it didn’t work.

If it helps, I’m on an iPhone 7 right now.

Discussion Apparently I dont know how to keep a chat...

I have noticed that when I DM people (who post that they want someone to dm them) most of the time we exchange like 5 messages at the best, and ofc my message is the last so I am kind of "left on seen" but on reddit. Idk, we start with Hi and the how are you stuff, then after that it just stop... i am personally interested by most of people will call "old stuff" (classical music, history, politics to some extent) but trust me I am not boring, I can have a convo with you if you want... what do people even talk about?

I have a crush, we used to talk more often a year ago, but the "talk" was just sending tiktoks to each other while having small "commentaries" on them, and that's how it ends each day. Now we talk less, a long story behind this, but anyway...

I am 18M, people might think I am a Nerd obssesed with education and stuff, but i am actually very rebellious (like in personality) i am just introvert, because again, people dont have convos with me, I actually will talk to anyone and will not leave them on seen, weither in real life or on internet, unless they are rude, but the opposite happens to me a lot...

SERIOUS i sincerely hate being a woman

(for context im 15f)
this generation especially online is continuously growing to be more misogynistic, the more i see posts about feminism and womens rights the more i genuinely despise being a woman to the point i cry at night.

its come greatly to my attention that sexism is deeply embedded into our society and will never fully vanish. the smallest of actions and words can easily be deemed as sexist, the gesture being small but the impact lifelong. since childhood girls are told that if boys hit them, they’re simply flirting and showing affection. seems harmless, right? no. this is one of the reasons men feel okay to physically harm women. the tiniest phrase said to little girls and boys at young ages easily shape who they become as they grow up, men are taught to be misogynistic and women are taught that its normal. I also believe this can be a reason why men are heavily overrepresented in sa and dv crimes (sexual assault& domestic violence/abuse).

and i will admit, i am a misandrist, righteously so, or atleast in my opinion and experience. i myself have been a victim of sa and mental abuse in an relationship, ive experienced the cruelty of men and their intentions multiple times from young. i was 12 the first time i got assaulted, by a boy i liked. it was stupid, yes, but even then boys as young as him at the time thought of women as only sex symbols. he openly asked me multiple times to do things with him, which i always refused until he forced himself upon me, i tried to push but he overpowered me and kept his hand going up. luckily from that and a few others i learnt to recognise what their true intentions are by the slight change of their tone when not being in physical contact. that being said, older men online when i was 13 also tried to pressure me into doing things for them, these men were in their 20’s, they tried to doxx and extort me, endlessly threatening me for what they wanted. ive witnessed and personally experienced a lot of men that i wasnt ever with try to do sexual things with me, whenever i rejected they always resorted to degrading and insulting me in various ways, quickly getting emotional. i have never met a truly genuine man. i dont think i ever will. ever since my first sa i have always been scared of men in public, everyday when id be walking to school or a friends house and id see a man, id immediately think the worst and run away as fast as i could, that also goes for the present. every day i live in fear of men, i watched them destroy my family and myself, i dont think ill ever be comfortable with one. but these aren’t my only reasons.

sometimes when ill be scrolling ill swipe past a reddit story or i think its quota story?? itll be from a womans account about her experience with whos usually her husband. ive seen so many stories explaining how they’d cheated on their wives while they would be carrying their child, ive also seen many where theyd rape them directly after labour, or barely help with the baby after labour. my point here is that men lack sympathy and fail to understand what pregnancy does. im 15, ive never experienced a pregnancy, but yet, its not hard to show sympathy. womens bodies are ruined after pregnancy and put through 9months of torture after. it takes a woman up to 5 years to recover from a pregnancy, but men being the creatures they are they lack the brains to understand this. many go on to stress and use their partners after and during pregnancy. men also dont always love their child unconditionally unlike women. women have maternal love, men dont, its highly unlikely for a man to love his child as much as the mother does. that’s why so many children today are without fathers and with single mothers.

men will never understand what its like to be a woman and live everyday fearing sexual assault and rape. i hate being a woman but id also hate being a man. men lack sympathy and more or less all have the same intention. im really sorry if the grammar or wording of the sentences is wrong or dont make sense this was written at night in a rush of anger. does any other girl feel like this? how do i stop??

Discussion Has anyone found a reliable way to reduce last minute no shows at events?

One of the biggest challenges in event planning is dealing with guests who confirm attendance but never show up. Even a small number of no-shows can impact budgets, seating arrangements, food orders, and the overall experience for both hosts and attendees.

While researching different approaches, I noticed that services such as Rizz Invites focus heavily on reminder systems and RSVP management to help organizers stay connected with guests before an event. It raises an interesting question about whether proactive communication actually reduces no-show rates or if the issue is largely outside an organizer's control.

For those who regularly host events, have reminder messages, follow-up confirmations, or other strategies made a noticeable difference in attendance rates? What has worked best in your experience?

Discussion Is this how domestic workers usually find jobs in India?

My mom works as a cook. Whenever she looks for a new job, it's almost always through agents, other cooks, apartment security, WhatsApp groups, or word of mouth.

I've noticed there isn't really one place where workers can browse multiple nearby opportunities, and they usually don't know much about an employer's past hiring history.

Is this how it works where you live too? If you've worked as a domestic worker or hired one, I'd love to hear how the process usually happens and what the biggest frustrations are.

Problems with parents

I'm 13 and having problems with my parents when I try to talk to them they use the problem I'm talking about as a excuse, like when I'm trying to explain the truth they use my problem as a excuse, now I have my own room to have privacy, me and my brother used to sleep in the living room and it has a camera I didn't mind it but when me and my brother finally got a room they are going to add a camera I can't tell them that I'm uncomfortable with them putting a camera since I'm still growing and need privacy my brother also is annoyed with the cameras, they always bring up the bad things that most kids do nowadays even though we always listen to them and don't even do the same things, like they bring up those school shootings and those gangster wanna be teens, they always say they paid for everything for the room they did all the work, and they said the cameras are needed for monitoring us because we might do the same things that kids do nowadays, me and my brother are working hard at school always listening to their requests, but when I complain they always use the excuse "do you see the things kids do online? What if the same thing happens to you two?" And they always compare us to those smart kids online and always agree to those Ai stories or fake news. I just wanted to vent these issues out because my parents won't listen and always use the same excuses.i though privacy was something a child needs, they won't even put cameras on my grandpa's room even though they always tell he has mental issues even though they always take his side and in the middle of the night he brings random men. If you are currently reading this i wanaa ask, how can I prevent them putting a camera and respecting personal spaces.

School people

i'm pretty dumb, but i've had a lot of stuff happen to me thorought my life and i consider myself someone that has above average emotional IQ, in other words, i'm mature, and OH MY GOD people with low emotional IQ are actually insufferable, going to school or anywhere in public feels like hell and i hate having to interact with these people, and to be honest, i actually feel bad for them, because i used to be one of them and my life sucked a lot, but then i matured and i stopped having to deal with the consequences of my actions, the problem is that these people are ACTUALLY like this 24/7 and i hate it so much, at school i get bullied for having long hair as a man, other boys my age tell me i have "girl hair" even though my hair doesn't even get past my shoulders and i have one of the most common hairstyles for men with my hair length, i love my hair and i'm still growing it out, but sometimes those type of phrases hurt my feelings a lot, they also like to pull on my hair to make fun of me and it's genuinely so irritating for me to have these people around me almost everyday, i started skipping school just to avoid these people and interactions like that, but when i do skip school i feel lazy and ungrateful because there's people all around the world that don't have the money to get education and i'm over here skipping school almost everyday, does anyone have tips on how to make them stop doing this type of stuff? ignoring them doesn't work, they just do it more and more until they get a reaction from me.

Other Horrible landlord and the worst person ever.

Consider this a vent but I am also looking for advice on what to do about my landlord. For context, she is only a year or two older than I am (25 or 26 iirc), and I live upstairs and she downstairs. I pay 1050 a month for my room in Toronto, utilities and wifi included. Our living spaces are separated, but we have to share the kitchen. Here are some of the most egregious things she has done:

- Neglects her cat. This is a huge one because it causes many problems that directly affect our quality of living. For example, disposed of her cat’s dirty litter in the communal kitchen trash. She would sometimes leave the house either at her partner’s house or vacation for days or weeks at a time, leaving her cat completely alone. There have been a few times his litter box was left unattended for so long he would poo on the floor. During this time, he would also become severely lethargic and his energy levels would drop significantly (he is usually really annoying but he would become completely quiet and would lay in the same spot for hours). This is actually the main reason I’m writing this post; I came downstairs yesterday to TWO separate turds on the floor, and his litter box is completely maxed out. What was different this time was that she has been home, AND I noticed a bag of dirty litter that she keeps beside the litter box, because it’s so hard to just walk outside to dispose of it.

- Overall cleanliness. She has left cat vomit on the floor for days even when notified it was there. It is dirty (not just dusty, dirty) everywhere***.*** The walls have I don’t know how many years of scum stuck on there, the stove fan and stovetop have layers and layers of yellowed grease. The house is old, but it also just looks dirty, objectively. She once left her cat’s used litter box in the dining table, because that’s something normal people do. She leaves the trash overflowing and the lid on the counter. She once burnt something to a crisp and left it there in the kitchen for 8 days. The house smelled like smoke the whole time. Sometimes I think I can still smell it. Because of all of these factors, I have started eating upstairs, and try not to go downstairs at all. I even got a kettle and freezer up there in my kitchenette.

- Basic landlord responsibilities. We live in Toronto and we saw some really bad snow the previous winter. She asked my roommate and I to help shovel, or to take turns shovelling, and while we were alright to do it, she never did it. Not even once. Her boyfriend is the only one that uses the driveway btw. She even asked us to help shovel the back porch that is right next to her bedroom so that her film set can use it, and when we said we were busy, she said, “it’s okay, I can wait.” ?? She never ended up doing it. I ended up shovelling it by myself a few times because I needed the exercise anyway, and I thought I was doing a nice thing for her so that when she comes back from her trip, she and her boyfriend have somewhere to park. Never got so much as a text, much less a thank you. We also don’t have a working smoke detector in the kitchen. I had to wait over a month for her to install ant traps that had arrived weeks ago. I think she thought if I didn’t bug (haha) her about it then I would eventually forget. None of the doors upstairs work, not even the bathroom and since she isn’t employed, she can’t afford to repair anything. Because of broken doors, my cat accidentally got downstairs and her cat injured mine, lacerating the surface of her eyeball and resulting in a $800+ vet bill. It is explicitly stated in rental laws and our lease agreement that basic standards must be kept and she has broken many, as you have read.

- Boundaries. She is a chronic oversharer which is her decision, but she also has crossed boundaries with us, her tenants. She asks us personal questions without any regard for our own comfort or privacy. She has asked both of us to buy cigarettes for her, even though we live 3 minutes away from the nearest convenience store. She once asked me while I was at work and I told her I wouldn’t be home for another few hours and told her it would be quicker to get them herself. She said, “it’s okay, I can wait.” ????

TLDR; she is an ill-equipped landlord who doesn’t even have the most basic capabilities to manage a property or have tenants. Or even to be an adult. Is there anything I can do to penalize her? I feel like I should be morally and mentally compensated for distress ngl. I am planning to call animal welfare on her once I move out next month already.

Small Problem Every time I cross, traffic

i live in a pretty smallish town, about 1k people. theres never really any cars on the road i mean casually theres is but not really. my yard is close to a crosswalk by the corner and when im outside probably like every 5 minutes ish -10 a car would go by but mostly just one. but whenever i go on a walk theres always like 3-6 cars passing by before I can go. i thought this was a crazy coincidence so i started to test it by recording an hours worth of traffic and yeah about every 4 minutes on average a car would go by. Also according to that hour footage only 2 cars went by at a time. I also started staring at the road even when people went by, no traffi. This has been going on for 3 months and only one time i went across thebstreet without traffic. I cant thing of a single time without traffic. My answer to this i think is someones pulling some weird prank but maybe not, how do i get this all to stop?

URGENT!!!! Investment help 16

Hey everyone, I’m currently 16 and living in Canada. I don’t have a job yet, but I do some car detailing on the side. So far, I’ve managed to save around $7,000.

I have a TD account and I’ve done a lot of research before investing. I ended up buying 5g of Valcambi Suisse gold and Royal Canadian Mint silver coins. The RCM coins cost me around $2,500 CAD and the gold was about $1,029 CAD.

Right now, I have some money left over, but I need to spend around $2,300 on something I can’t disclose. My question is: I understand that gold and silver don’t generate income like stocks do, but I believe silver has potential because of increasing industrial demand (cars, technology, etc.). I know it’s volatile and I could be wrong, but silver has already reached high prices this year.

My plan is to start investing in ETFs when I turn 18. I know I’ll need more money and income first, but should I continue stacking precious metals while also investing in ETFs once I’m able to?

I also want to start flipping cars one day as another way to build wealth. I know the saying “don’t put all your eggs in one basket,” so I’m trying to build a balanced plan.

Any advice on what I should do going forward?

Mental Health My little sister is driving me CRAZY.

Hello Reddit,

This is a serious question.

I have an 8-year-old sister, and she has some behaviors that are making life very difficult for our family. We all sleep in one large room: my mom, dad, brother, sister, and me.

Almost every night after we go to bed (around 11 p.m.), she repeatedly asks my mom questions like, "Mom, do I need to pee?" or "Mom, do I need to poop?" She also keeps getting up to drink water and then has to use the bathroom again. This can continue until 1 a.m., making it very hard for me to sleep.

When I ask her why she keeps asking those questions, she just says, "I don't know if I have to or not."

I've asked my mom not to answer those questions every time because it is reinforcing the behavior, but she still does it, i dont know why.

I'm not trying to be mean to my sister—I genuinely want to help her, and I also need to be able to sleep. Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be related to anxiety, OCD, or another condition? What can i do to help her and so i can finally sleep well?

Mental Health I feel like I don't deserve kindness or friendship

I feel like I don't deserve anything from anyone. Whenever someone does something nice for me, I feel incredibly grateful, but I also wonder, Why would they do that for me? I don't understand why someone would want to spend time with me or be my friend.

I don't have many friends, and my self-worth is really low. I often assume that people don't want to interact with me, talk to me, or become friends with me. It feels like everyone only notices the bad things about me. Because of that, whenever someone shows interest in me or wants to spend time with me, it feels like such a huge deal.

The weird thing is that I'll automatically drop my own plans just to be with them, even if I don't actually want to do what they're suggesting.

For example, my long-distance best friend sometimes asks me to watch a movie together on Discord by sharing her screen. I immediately say yes without even thinking, even though I'm not sure I actually want to watch the movie. I'm just so happy that she wants to spend time with me. I still can't really understand why she would choose to.

In the past, I had high expectations of my friends. I thought they would treat me the way I treated them, but I was disappointed over and over again, even by people I considered very close friends. Eventually, I lost hope and started believing that even my closest friends wouldn't truly care about me. So now, when someone actually does show that they care, I almost can't process it. It feels unreal.

I think a lot of this comes from my childhood. Throughout middle school, I was bullied by both boys and girls because of my appearance. They gave me hurtful nicknames and picked on me almost every day. I'm 19 now, but I think those experiences still affect me subconsciously.

What's strange is that I'm actually very confident around people who have nothing to do with my school or university. Around strangers or people I meet at language exchange clubs, I can be outgoing and act like my normal self. But around people from school or university, I become much more insecure.

So my problem is that I can seem very confident, but deep down I'm one of the most insecure people I've ever met. I don't really believe that people genuinely like me. In some ways, I feel like fleeting friendships are easier because I don't have time to overthink them. But when I become close to someone, I can spend days or even weeks overanalyzing every interaction.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Does this sound like low self-esteem from bullying, or is there something else going on? If you've overcome it, how did you do it?

THANK YOU FOR READING MY POST

Small Problem How do I get my dad off Fortnite ??

My dad is level 560-something in fortnite and it's genuinely all he does when he's not eating or shitting. He does a few other things like go to the store or yell at me/my mom but other than that it's just fortnite fortnite fortnite fortnite all day every day. He even spends his nights on the game, for example 2-3 weeks ago he had to take me to the airport and he spent the entire night on fortnite (meaning he hadn't slept in 24+ hours), and we almost crashed because he was too exhausted to drive for so long (he doesn't allow my mom to drive). Idk, it doesn't seem that serious but every time I talk to him he starts talking about fortnite. I tried to talk to him about an issue with my aunt that I don't gey along with, he just laughed and started talking about a shield in fortnite or whatnot and how it helps him win.

Small Problem my mom sometimes ignores me

hiii i’m a 17 yo girl and i’ve noticed that my mom sometimes ignores me? it’s not super obvious but i would just feel it, like something would shift between us. a recent example was on my birthday a few days ago when we went to buy a cake. at the store i told her i cried alot this morning bc of a text from my bsf that really touched me(idk why i did that i kinda knew how it would end up), she brushed it off and kinda lectured me, telling me that “it’s life”that we’ll eventually not see each other again. i barely, if not ever, open up about my feelings to anyone so my mom turning me down like that made me a little upset. i didn’t say anything else while in the car and tried my best to not appear upset and suppress my feelings bc that’s just what i do. after that, i went straight to my room and stayed the whole evening (staying in my room all day is something i do everyday esp during summer and my parents don’t mind that much). what made me truly upset that day was not only my parents worked all day so i only saw them during the evening, but it’s like nobody gaf that it was my bday, we didn’t even get to eat the cake which is basically a tradition we have but wtv.

all that yapping to say that after that event, these days, everytime i would come across my mom in either the kitchen or living room, she wouldn’t even give me a glance or tell me smth, she just pretends like i don’t exist while she acts normal to my dad and my sister over the phone (my sister is in her 30s and lives in another country). today, i even asked to hang out to both her and my dad, she turned to my dad to basically say that “its none of her business”. although 5 mins afterwards, she sent my dad to ask me who im going with (ik she was the one sending him cause he dgaf and doesn’t even know my friends 😭). i really tried thinking what i did wrong cause it’s not the first time she has done that, the other times were mainly because i was the one that got upset and would limit my interactions with her but i got over it after 3 days.

i genuinely love my mom with my entire heart and we’re pretty close but it truly pains me that i can’t get to talk about my feelings openly with anyone without getting lectured, knowing that i used to be extremely reserved to the point i would barely talk to any of my parents or anyone in general. both me and my mom are pretty stubborn and not very open with our feelings (pretty sure i got that from her) so i suppose that contributes to the problem. i know my pov is surely biased and i apologise in advance for it and ik i might sound silly or even ungrateful by telling that story but i would really appreciate an external pov on this situation to understand how i can better myself and grow from that experience.

ps: english is not my first language, please excuse any grammar/lexical mistakes or poor vocabulary TT
