Looking for restaurant recommendations in the region, from say Bobcaygeon to Cobourg/Port Hope. Something like Cheeky Duck or Love You Mean It (which I really like). Suggestions for a special occasion?

Other Flock Camera Reporting

Flock cameras, a form of mass surveilance, are rolling out everywhere. This project in the link below has been launched to enable us to report and identify where they are.

Garrett Langley, Flock's CEO, called people "terrorists" for opposing him. Mass surveilance is already being abused everywhere by the police and local governments.

So far in Peterborough, there aren't any identified by these guys. If you find these cameras out there, you can report them here.

Recommendations Revised review McWilliams moving.

Revised Review for McWilliams Moving Company
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I wanted to update my original review of McWilliams Moving Company following my parents' recent move.

The move itself did not go as planned, and there were significant issues with the moving crew that was sent to complete the job. As a result, furniture was damaged, repairs were needed at the house my parents had sold, and the overall experience was incredibly stressful for the family.

However, what truly sets a company apart is how it responds when things go wrong.

Following the move, McWilliams took ownership of the situation and worked with my parents to address the concerns. They have been helping with cleaning** **damaged furniture, arranging repairs to broken pieces, and generally making a genuine effort to rectify the problems that occurred. Throughout the process, they have been responsive, professional, and committed to finding solutions.
While the move itself was far from ideal, I believe it is important to recognize when a company stands behind its customers and takes responsibility. McWilliams could have distanced themselves from the situation, but instead they stepped up and worked to make things right. For this reason, I recommend McWilliams and give them 5 stars.

I am very appreciative of the support they have provided my parents, and I want to acknowledge the effort they have made to repair both the damage and our confidence in their service.

Thank you to the McWilliams team for doing the right thing and following through

Recommendations Any new restaurants worth checking out?

Coming to Lakefield from Halifax next week to visit my in-laws for a few weeks. We haven’t been back to Peterborough since 2024 so just wondering if any new awesome restaurants have opened in that time. We’re not picky and like most styles of food aside from sushi really. For me a place that sells local craft from Bobcaygeon, Old Flame would be icing on the cake.

Question Has anyone seen the Odyssey in town? If so, how was the viewing experience?

Just what the title says. I'm wondering if anyone has been to the cinema to see The Odyssey yet, and if so, how it was. I'm guessing it would be at the Galaxy Cinemas at 320 Water St. I ask because I've heard it should really be seen in IMAX and the cinema in town doesn't have IMAX. Thank you in advance.

Question City of Peterborough employees using vehicles for personal use

Is this allowed? I see the same guy in the evenings driving around in a suv with multiple people in the car who clearly aren’t city employees. I’ve never seen any other drive around like this. Are we paying for people to use these after hours for personal use now or is this guy taking advantage?

Recommendations Burnham Dental

Just wondering what people’s experiences have been at Burnham Dental.
I’ve been a patient there for ten years - and in the last year I feel as though their customer service and how they treat patients has gone downhill. The dentist’s availability is crazy - booking appointments 6-8 weeks out for something that is a 20 minute appointment.
The front desk staff are short and seem uncaring.
I know that the flood they experienced and juggling multiple practices must have been stressful - but they been back in their office on Charlotte Street for six months now.

Does anyone have another dental office they recommend? Seriously thinking of switching.

Question Mandolin players Peterborough

I have been taking lessons for about a year (from zero musical experience) and now know notes and a few basic songs.

I have found a great instructor in town and am continuing lessons, what I would really like is to meet someone about one a week to practice with.

If someone is looking for a fiddle/guitar or mandolin lessons I have a great reference.

Opinion No Ref No Game

Just wanted to share this post from Facebook regarding a soccer game tonight in Peterborough. Find it incredibly frustrating to hear about referees facing abuse yet alone youth referees.

PSA to all you parents with youth in sports, if you want your kids to play games be kind to the referees (especially kid referees)

No Ref. No Game.

This isn't the first time I've shared an honest reflection on the treatment of youth referees, but if you see a post like this from me, unfortunately, it's because the situation doesn't appear to be getting any better.

Tonight, I officiated a U10 competitive match. The growth in skill, teamwork, and game intelligence among young players is incredible to watch, and it's easy to see why our provincial and national programs continue to improve. But there's a darker side to these games.

Too often, adults treat these games like World Cup finals. Every decision is scrutinized. Coaches and parents openly question even the most experienced officials, and youth referees are criticized for doing their best while learning the game.

During my match, coaches publicly challenged decisions they themselves didn't fully seem to understand. “I’m just asking a question ref”, I was told after their arms had been raised in disbelief, in dispute really, to my decisions. Fun fact: when the whole park can see your disrespect and distrust in a decision by your gestures, you’re not “just asking a question.” I chose not to share with them that I I’ve been refereeing for over 20 years, and not that long ago at the highest level in the province, that I’m an Ontario Soccer Instructor, that I oversee the referee mentor program in our District because in a U-10 development game, that shouldn’t be relevant, that shouldn’t be necessary.

Afterward, I watched a teenage referee on a nearby field face the same treatment, with adults loudly disputing his calls and questioning his knowledge. It reached a point where I found myself standing between the coaches from both teams asking why they were yelling at a minor who appeared to make a reasonable game decision. When I stepped in, the response from the coach was, "the referee should know the rules better at this level."

But what level are we talking about? These are development leagues. Players are developing. Coaches are developing. Referees are developing too.

If youth referees who I can see are trying their best, who are confident and who care, can't learn, grow, and make mistakes in a U10 development league, where can they? These are the referees who disappear, who quit after a season or two...and can we blame them?

No Ref. No Game. It's that simple.

More importantly, every time an adult berates an official, they're teaching young players that disrespect is acceptable. Is that really the lesson we want to pass on?

Referees do a great job supporting and mentoring one another, but we can't be the only ones. If you've ever witnessed inappropriate behaviour toward an official, did you speak up? Did you report it? Did you tell that referee they did a good job?

Supporting youth officials is everyone's responsibility. If you'd like advice on how to respond to or report inappropriate conduct, please don't hesitate to reach out. And to the many friends and colleagues in my network whom do their part, thank you. It matters.
