Text shameful. latest official OW app wont work without the internet

i blocked the OW app from ever getting online. this is a safety precaution as an IT person. if software (onewheel app) or hardware (security cams inside my house) has no biz to be online, then it will be blocked from the net.

5 months ago, old OW app (also blocked from the net) can connect to my GT and work fine. i got a new phone recently. i guess i musta downloaded the latest version. i also blocked it from getting online and to my surprise...it refuses to work without getting online. it can identify my GT is nearby off course. upon tapping my board, it wont connect to view/adjust my board settings. ouch. guess i will figure a way to transfer the older app from my prev Android phone to this newer Android phone.

i see NoseDive app is an option but sadly it's only on iOS. here's hoping the dev will port it over to Android. pretty please!

Text Soft flared footpads are ass

Hey everybody, I just wanna put this out as a disclaimer to not buy the soft flared foot pads. The hard ones should be fine but the soft ones the sensors peel way too much when it comes to heavy riding or offloading. I have had two of them now and now my third one is peeling up. It’s the hard one any better because I am absolutely sick of buying foot pads.

3D printed footpad guard for pint S

I know a lot of people are gonna say “it’s supposed to be banged up” but I don’t ride too hard on trails. I never really go over 15 mph and I just want to try to keep this one fairly protected. This is my 2nd Pint, I left my stock pint x in the Philippines where I let province kids try it when I travel around there which is really banged up. So I got the pint S to ride around back here in california.

If anyone wants the .stl file to 3d print your own pint flared footpad guard then I can upload the file. It’s not 100% the best tolerance but it’s close enough to stave on there with 3M vhb tape. I used pbt pro filament with a .8 mm nozzle at .2 layer height. I think tpu might be a good filament to use also since it can hug the footpad more easier.

Which GT Footpads should I get and what you think of my board!

So from the Onewheel website, I am considering either the following
- GT Footpads ($90)

- GT Flat Kick ($150)

- GT Lowboy ($175)

- GT Lowboy Flared ($200)

Currently I have the regular GT Footpads, and I do want to change them since the existing ones haven't been swapped out and have over 490 miles on them from the previous owner. I'll attach photos of what they currently look like.

I do want pads where I can ride for extended periods without my legs feeling as tired. I don't plan on using them for anything crazy yet — just riding based on NY weather. Definitely using them on grass, small trails, and concrete, whatever they have at the parks, yk!

I bought this Onewheel GT from Facebook for $1,250 in the condition shown! The previous owner put a lifetime total of 490 miles on it!

I definitely plan to deep clean this board since the previous owner got good use out of it! I'm wanting to change the GT rail since the existing one is pretty beat up. I want to get a new pad based on y'all's opinions. The other stuff I plan to change later in the future since I'm still a beginner — once I get used to the Onewheel like a pro, I'll be down to spend more and get everything looking new!

Lemme know what you guys think, any suggestions or ideas or anything are greatly appreciated!

P.S. — I met a person who's willing to sell me the VRH (Variable Ride Height system) for my Onewheel! Whoever has one, lemme know if it's worth the money for my use case!

Is my XR likely recoverable with just a battery replacement?

I’m looking for some advice from people who have more experience repairing Onewheels than I do.

I have an original Onewheel XR with only 110 miles on it. I bought it about 6 years ago, and the last time it was ridden was 2 years ago. It has been stored indoors the entire time, with no water damage, crashes, or heavy use.

At this point, the board won’t power on, but when I plug the charger in then the power button flashes blue. Based on what I’ve read, I’m assuming one or more battery cells have dropped below a recoverable voltage after sitting for so long.

My main question is: If the battery is dead from age, is the rest of the board (BMS/controller) likely still okay, or can a dead battery damage those components?

I also noticed a hard white residue on part of the BMS (photo attached). I’m not sure if it’s just residue that can be cleaned off or if it’s a sign that something has leaked or failed.

For those of you who have repaired XRs:

  • Do you think this board is likely recoverable with just a new battery?
  • Can an unrecoverable battery kill the BMS or controller?
  • Does the white residue on the BMS look concerning?

I’d appreciate any advice before I spend the money on a replacement battery. Thanks!

Text I built an iPhone app for recording rides with Onewheel telemetry

View live Onewheel stats and show them in your videos

Hey everyone, I’ve been building an app called AtlasCam and wanted to share it here since Onewheel riding is a big part of why I made it.

I wanted ride videos that showed more than just the camera footage. AtlasCam records video while logging the ride, and it can connect to your board over Bluetooth to include things like speed, battery, ride mode, energy use, GPS route, altitude, and weather.

You can move the overlays around, export the full video with the ride data baked in, or just trim out and export a part of a longer ride if that's all you want to share. One heads up on performance: longer rides can still take a bit to process on export, but shorter rides work great and export quickly. If you're planning to post clips to social media, a video around a minute or so tends to be the sweet spot.

I also made a Mac companion app called AtlasCam Studio. You can bring your rides over from the phone, trim and split clips, adjust the telemetry overlays, and export everything from the Mac. All data is stored locally, nothing gets sent to any server anywhere.

Both are free to download:

An Android version is also in development — hoping to get that out fairly soon, so if you're an Android rider, stay tuned.

There's more in the app than I've covered above, including:

  • Voice mode (BYO OpenAI API key) that lets you set routes on the map while recording
  • Telemetry mode
  • Multi-cam mode
  • 3D Gaussian splatting (largely experimental and lidar required)
  • Apple Watch connection
  • Recording straight to an external device like an SSD

I’m still actively working on both, so if anyone tries them, I’d really appreciate honest feedback. I’m especially interested in how the board connection works across different models and firmware, and which stats people actually want in their videos.

Just to be clear, the Onewheel integration is unofficial and AtlasCam isn’t affiliated with Future Motion. You must connect to your Onewheel via the official app first, then open AtlasCam.

Look forward to seeing some rides! 🙌

Update:

Update for everyone who had the app crash immediately on opening (@Waterguytony, u/youshantsteakpee, and anyone else who hit this) — sorry for the trouble, and thanks for sticking with me while I tracked it down.

Turns out it wasn't a permissions thing after all — that was my best guess early on, but I got some real crash logs that pointed at the actual cause: on phones with the newer multi-lens camera systems (iPhone 15/16/17 Pro and similar), the app was trying to configure a lens-switching feature at the wrong moment during camera setup, and on a fresh install that could crash the app right as it opened. It wasn't about which permissions you granted or declined — that was a red herring on my end.

Good news: it's fixed and will be in the next release. I'll drop a note here once that version is live in case anyone wants to confirm it on their end.

Appreciate everyone who reported this and answered my questions — genuinely made the difference in finding it.

Santa Monica, CA

Multi-cam mode lets you record from two cameras at once like selfie + wide lens.

Westwood, CA

Relive mode on AtlasCam Studio on Mac. Pittsburgh, PA

iOS App
add sports scores to your videos/pictures
Picture in picture mode for camera/video lets you keep map in full view while you record -- helpful on the go. This also works with the voice mode to let you set routes on the map while you're recording.

Grip tape started peeling up awhile back. Didnt think a whole lot of it but I finally ordered new grip tape from FloatLife (fuckin killer job packaging up my order by the way. Hand written thank you note and a koozy, so thanks boys) Anyway. I got around to replacing it and realized that the sensor was peeling up not the grip tape. So what are my options here? Should I try and clean the little rocks from this side of the sensor and maybe apply some sort of adhesive to get the sensor stuck back down then separate the grip tape from the sensor? Not to destroy this thing. Figured id quit while I was ahead and ask the professionals on here. Thanks guys.

Video X7LR stompies footpad ghosting

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I had heard some rumors about ghosting issues with the stompies foot pads but wasn't sure if they had redesigned the stompies for the newer x7lrs and have been shipping out new boards with a redesign that fixed the issue but apparently that's not the case and yesterday almost lost my board in the river. Anyone else have any experience with this I reached out to and created a ticket on discord through fungineers support but have yet to hear back. Also wanted to add it is a fairly new board I got it on July 1st and it has 275 miles on it and this was the first time ever having any issues with it

Video Help after swapping bearings for TFL ceramics. Is this a bearing or an axle issue?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

About a month ago did a bearing swap and threw TFL grizzly ceramics in. Rode super smooth for about 150 miles, besides the time I had to retighten inner and outer axle bolts when it started making a clicking sound, which solved the issue completely.
Couple of days ago, my friend (130lb) dropped of a curb no higher than a foot and I noticed that the sound of the impact, for lack of better word, felt somewhat more impactful than usual.
About three miles down the road, my friend noticed a ticking feeling under her feet, especially when turning left. Not much of a sound, or a vibration, but
a clock like tic tic tic feeling under her feet.
I thought the axle bolts must have came loose again somehow, so I reassembled and retightened inner and outer axle bolts with some blue loctite and noticed the clicking sound (see video) as I applied pressure to the wheel from one side to another. Interesting part is that it only happens if the wheel is rotated in one or two specific positions. And I believe I can see some movement between inner bearing ring and the axle when I apply the pressure trying to recreate the sound
If I spin the wheel freely, the bearings make no sound and run smooth as expected, with occasional light tic sound every 10 or so rotations.

Could this be caused by a less than a foot drop and a ball bearing is cracked somewhere in there, even if the bearing is not making rough noise when spun by hand or ridden?
Of something got messed up along the way and the axle is the issue?
Hopefully that’s enough information for somebody to recognise what could be the issue and maybe somebody had to deal with this and could advise me before I have a spare half a day to pull the stator out to check on the axle.
Thanks!

Text GTS XL vs X7 Supercharged

Hello all - So I currently own the GTS XL and I am really enjoying it! That being said, I am super interested in VESC and thinking more long term.

I am looking for feedback from people that have both, or have experience riding both. What are the pros and cons of both?

Am I crazy for wanting to sell the XL for the X7 supercharged (high voltage)?

I am a bigger guy at 250, so max torque is really what I am after.

I have owned the XR, Pint, GT, GTS XL, and currently have the XR stashed away and the XL I am currently riding.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Text XRC vs. GTS-XL

I’ve seen a lot of talk about the XRC where people are saying it’s the perfect board. I got a pint off marketplace to try out Onewheeling. I have been absolutely loving it. I live close to the city so I can run into town to explore. I charge it up while I dip into places. But as I use it more I’m getting irritated with the short distance. I’ve also got trails close by that I know my pint won’t be able to handle. I have a skating background and mainly use it for riding around town. When I go to look at stuff on the sight it seems to really push the GT and I like the idea of the distance and power but people have said it’s like a boat. They’ve also talked about the XL for more foot room I have kind of smaller feet so it hasn’t been a major issue but it’s something I see people bring up. I don’t want to lose that carving factor but if I’m gonna spend the money I want to know I’m getting the best. So what are people’s thoughts on XRC vs GT. Is the rally edition worth it. Or the recurve rails. I’m 5’11 and 240lbs shoe size 10 if any of that’s important.

Text XR+ Accessories NOT fully compatible with Funwheel X7s

Just received my new Funwheel X7 Long Range. I can already tell I'm going to love the board but want to save others from a bit of deceptivemess on Fungineers side.

The X7 series is FAR from compatible with with XR accessories. Bumpers don't align, X7 Rear bumpers uniquely require rear threaded inserts meaning XR bumpers leave your rear footpad held on with only the 2 wheel side screws when trying to add BANG bumpers. Additionally XR Front Sensor Footpads don't have long enough cables to accommodate the X7.

Not throwing any hate. Do far the board feels like a beast to my aging XR+, but feel like the Fungineer team should be a little more transparent that "compatibility" means DIY modding for the majority of aftermarket accessories to their ready-to-ride boards.

Hope this helps others from disappointing surprises when ordering upgrades for their X7 boards.

EDIT: It's the REAR footpad (not the front as originally posted) that requires threaded inserts not found in rear BANG bumpers. Thanks @jonnyblaze12591 for pointing this out and confirming Fangs fitment.

Image The hardest tire to put on

Post image
18 Upvotes

The tire on my Pint X got worn down so I bought a replacement tire directly from onewheel, thinking it would be most compatible and the safest option. I didn’t realize how unbelievably hard this tire is to get on the wheel!

I was able to get the first part on with a LOT of force but getting the second lip around the rim is harder than any other tire I’ve replaced ever before. I’ve already scratched the rim a bit trying to use a metal prying tool and have broken my plastic one just trying to do what all the YouTube videos say. I lube the tire before trying to get it on but as soon as I get more than half of it on, one side starts coming off as I’m putting the other side on. My dad and I have used all our strength and we couldn’t get the tire on. It’s just SO stiff.

Has anyone else been in this situation and are there any tips I’m not trying to get this tire on without scratching or bending the rim? I’m out of options.

Bubble on my tire- thoughts?

Discovered this after I felt a repetitive bump in my riding. I thought it would’ve been a flat spot but nope! Definitely a lump, the rubber is much softer than the rest of the tire as it is easily pushed in with my thumb.

Time to replace it before it blows out? I’ll admit I’m a little afraid to ride it now that I’ve found that spot.

Note: I’m at 529 miles on this stock tire.

Text Worth upgrading when i only use it a few times a year at festivals?

Bought a onewheel pint for a little regional burning man type event. It was my first time riding one and it was so great at that event. Used it multiple times a day to zoom across camp sites to the main stage. However. battery each day was damn near gone. I tried to charge from my camper at night but had a few issues charging off my inverter. I either need to get a DC car charger, or upgrade to a bigger battery onewheel. I'm thinking i'll take it to burning man in a month. If i'm only using it at these festival events, think its worth upgrading? Or just get the dc charger and call it a day?
