Video update on dulla!!

hello!! 😊😊 not sure if anyone remembers or saw my last post, but i wanted to give an update anyways. its been officially 4 days since i found her, and i can’t believe she’s been so reliant and lived so long. though, i believe tonight will be her last. as you can see in the video above, her wings have started to deteriorate and she is no longer moving on her own. and when her back is touched her wings are moving with a lot less strength. (i tried to show in the video but it’s hard to tell because of how weak she’s become) i also believe she tried to lay eggs, but they didn’t appear to be formed correctly. which makes me so sad for her. i seriously cannot believe she’s lived so long, and i love her so much!! i feel so grateful ive been in the position to be able to look after her and keep her safe from predators in her last days.

please excuse my shaking, i know moths only live a few days.. but ive become very emotionally attached to her over these past few days. and im very upset that she’s likely going to pass tonight:(

Unfortunately I cannot post all i took. I have videos too, because my camera is better quality in videos than photos.

Anyway, I saw the first imperial not last night, but the night before. He actually flew inside, and my little sister was HORRIFIED because of his size😂 I caught him and brought him back outside, then i took the photo :)

The second imperial i saw last night! Believe it or not, he was still sitting on our front door frame earlier today. He finally flew off somewhere about an hour ago.

At first I thought maybe it was the same moth, until I compared my photos of the first moth to the second.

I feel blessed to get to lay my eyes on such beauties!🥰

ID Request Finding a lot of maybe moths around house after buy cat grass

Hello, I'm in north of Italy.

I bought some cat grass. After about seven days, I noticed some larvae moving away from it — presumably coming from the cat grass, although I cannot be completely sure — and they were found close to where the grass was placed. Some of them were climbing onto nearby furniture.

I do not remember the exact color of the larvae, but I noticed that their heads were a different color from the rest of their bodies.

Within the following 24 hours, I started finding moths inside my house, similar to the ones shown in the attached pictures. Almost all of them were located near the area where the cat grass had been kept, except for a small percentage that were found elsewhere.

The have a length between 8mm and 10mm but I can't measure the wingspan.

I found approximately 10–15 moths in total. I have not found any near food or food storage areas. They seem to prefer staying on white ceilings and walls rather than near the kitchen or pantry.

I would like to rule out the possibility that these are food moths.

In your opinion, what kind of moth or insect could this be?

A litter moth; photographed in GA USA

This one caught the corner of my eye while out hiking one day. I think it looks like a mini jet fighter; the Mirage 2000.

Photo Hatched A Moth Today!

A while ago I posted about a garden pest we had. A few comments told me to keep the caterpillar and let it become a moth. The day after I put it in the enclosure it disappeared and I assumed it got out. I kept the enclosure just incase and today it hatched into what I assume is a hawk moth! I'm not sure how to make updates, so here is a new post.

General Question Field Guides for Michiana?

My love for moths was recently reignited, so I want to find a field guide for my region (I live on the Indiana/Michigan border, closer to Illinois than Ohio), but I'm not sure which would be best. I plan on hopping around different local book stores in my area this weekend, and would like to have a list of a few to keep an eye out for on my search. Preferably just one volume for all the moths in my region, but I'll do 2 if necessary to encapsulate all in my area.

General Question Do I leave this cercropia moth inside the cocoon?

Thumbnail

I came home from a work trip and the outer cocoon on my cercropia became moldy. I removed it from the outer layer but left it in the silk middle layer. Do I remove it from this one too for a better chance at survival or does this silk look healthy?

Also, unsure if I should start the overwintering process now or wait until it gets a bit colder out it’s now in my garage in a mesh butterfly tent. Located in Northern Ohio purchased the cocoon from someone online.
