Hey Sharks, it’s that time again! The Summer 2026 semester is in full swing, and refunds and loan disbursements are on everyone’s mind.

To keep things organized and limit the same posts from being made repeatedly, please use this thread to ask questions, share refund and loan updates, and discuss any financial aid issues you are dealing with. Any new posts outside of this megathread will be removed.

Lastly, this is a friendly reminder that r/MDC is not officially affiliated with Miami Dade College. The mods are not faculty or staff and can’t help with individual refund or loan issues. Instead, please contact your campus Financial Aid office for direct support. Thank you for your understanding!

FINANCIAL AID Request of high school transcripts again for Fafsa

Long story short, I’ve been attending this institution for 2 years, and now I got an email saying they need my high school transcripts. I did this when I first applied as a student here two years ago and I’ve never had to send them again. Is this happening to anyone else?

ACADEMICS Can anyone tell me more about the SLS 1510??

Hey everyone! My advisor is telling me I need to take SLS 1510 (the 3 credit one) this semester because I've avoided it for the past 3 semesters, lol and I'm wondering if someone can give me guidance on what it's really like? I'm doing MDC live and I need a really easy semester this semester, so I'm hoping someone can tell me what it's really like to take it. Is the coursework heavy? Or is it more just discussion? I'm going to be taking it with Maleka Brown who has a high rating on RMP. Would love to hear peoples thoughts, on the workload. Also, if you have taken Maleka Brown for SLS1510, would love to hear from you.

Thanks!!

OTHER Anyone gotten this call as well?

Hello, I’m an incoming student attending the college in the fall.

Basically, I kept getting voicemails from someone named Adam and claimed to be a virtual assistant at the college, asking if I was still interested in starting or continuing my studies in Fall 2026. They also said they were happy to help me with the enrollment process and answer questions that I had.

I don’t know if the school ever had a virtual assistant and I can’t tell if this is legit or not.

Am I the only one who’s had to deal with this?

ACADEMICS Has anyone taken a MDC Online math class? Statistics?

I am going to be busy during the fall with a new job, so I’m wondering how hard it would be to take a MDC Online Statistics course. I’m not the best in math, but I don’t suck. Should I just get an in person course on a Saturday?

ADMISSIONS What is the matter with this college?

I've been enrolled in 4 colleges, and I've never had an experience like enrolling in MDC. Every number I call goes to voicemail. On the rare occasion I get a call back, I've not once had anyone take ownership of an issue.

I have an advisor who refuses to advise, I have people evaluating my transcripts who deny it's their job to evaluate them all, I have someone at PLA telling me it's my responsibility to track down the chairman of my program and get him to ok the professional credentials they haven't previously evaluated.

I enrolled a month ago for the last set of classes and was assured they had enough time to get me set up, and now, here I am a month later, missed that summer session, still haven't had any transcripts evaluated, still haven't had my certifications evaluated, still haven't had my student aid finished.

In fact, I just received an email saying I needed to give them my high school diploma. I have 4 college transcripts, I have 2.5 years of FAFSA loans already completed, and I have between 120 and 140 college credits. How could you possibly need my high school diploma? Why am I just being asked for it over a month after enrolling? After already starting a class and then having to drop it because my paperwork was being slow-walked.

I've been transferred to the security guard 6 times just so someone wouldn't have to take ownership of any of this madness. If there were a college that had the degree I need literally anywhere else, I would be gone in a second. If just enrolling is this disorganized, I can only imagine how bad the classes are gonna be. This is the only college I've had to fight my way into. Any normal college would be doing anything they could to get you to study there.

Am I the only one who's had this experience? Does anyone have any tips on how to get these people to do their job? It's been so bad that I've had to message people on LinkedIn to get answers. Surely this isn't normal here, right?

ADMISSIONS Lpn To Rn at MDC

Is anyone currently doing their RN at MDC and is also an LPN? I’m trying to get an appt with an adviser to see how my path would look. I am a working LPN and also have all my pre reqs done from MDC from a few years ago when I thought I wanted to go into radiology. So I’m just wondering if I’d be able to go straight into the rn program by applying and if they take some classes off due to me having my LPN. Any advice would be amazing or if anyone could message me that went through the same process. Please thank you!

STUDENT LIFE Full time enrollment senior year of hs

I'm currently debating doing full time enrollment at MDC for my senior year of high school and am wondering about the social and club life. I know the classes are a lot sparser than high-school and that it is a commuter college so I'm wondering if these harm the social life? I would technically still be enrolled at my hs but I would like to primarily engage in MDC activities. Would be going to Kendall campus so yeah.

ACADEMICS Finding patients for clinic labs dental hygiene

To those that are currently in the dental hygiene program or have graduated. How hard was it to find patients? I probably have like 10 people in mind that can be my patients when I start clinic, but I heard I need at least 30 patients.

ACADEMICS Are there CART Exam study materials?

I'm trying to take CHM1045 and the lab in the fall semester this year, and my advisor says I need to take the CART Exam to bypass CHM1025. I don't want to take CHM1025 since I already took the equivalent in high school, but it's been a few years and I could use some studying. Does anyone have resources for studying? Thanks!

OTHER Please help me out

So I was trying to complete all the stuff I need to before starting my semester like residency etc, and I completely forgot my username for my mdc account portal. So I went to where I can reset my password and then clicking on the box that also says forgot username, then I enter my ssn and DOB but it says user credentials invalid, am I screwed? I’m 99% sure I’m putting in all the info correctly.

FINANCIAL AID help me out please

okay so basically…

i started classes for the summer b term with the fast track scholarship in person a few weeks ago, and i then discovered that i wouldn’t be able to attend in person because of a transportation issue.

so i had to switch to an online course, and i couldn’t attend the first session after enrolling, (because yk canvas takes 24-48 hours to complete your enrollment) so id already missed 2 classes (and i believe 3 is the maximum)

and then i attended the next session, but then this past week i had to miss another class

so now im like i don’t want to start a class that’s already only 6 weeks and is my first college class already having missed 3 classes but i also don’t want to be responsible for the payments or have any effects on my gpa 💔

i’ve emailed multiple times in the past few weeks and have rarely received a response and i’m just genuinely nervous as hell 💔 i’m literally supposed to be on a zoom at 11:30 but i cannot do that rn bc im actively having a breakdown so PLEASE help me

Any veterans using the GI Bill for one of the apprenticeship programs? I see that in many cases you start the OJT without starting classes. Do you receive BAH if you start the OJT while waiting for classes to start?

ACADEMICS American History requirements questions

Hi everyone.
I have a question regarding the history requirements for undergrad. I was thinking to take either AMH 2010, 2020, or another history course or the FLCE.
But I was told you must do both the history course and take the FLCE.
But I read in my academic plan that I can take the CLEP to fulfill this requirement.
So what will taking the CLEP do? Does it count towards the requirement so I won’t have to do the class? What about the FLCE? Can I just do the CLEP and FLCE.
I honestly don’t want to take the class, I haven’t had a history class in 20 years, and don’t have the patience for it now lol.

ACADEMICS A Question about MDC online classes

Hi everyone, I have a question about a class that is fully online. I’m gonna enroll in A&P 2 online for the 12 weeks in fall, the professor’s name is there but It says the meetings are TBA, does this mean that you work at your own pace anytime or is there actually gonna be a day and time to log on and they just haven’t announced it yet. I’m taking the Lab in person of course once a week, but the mini term A.

I’m also taking a medical terminology class online class For Fall B term so I didn’t wanna have the two courses clash at the end.

ACADEMICS Does anyone know if this course had mandatory in-person attendance or can I take it virtually?

I know this course is often taught virtually, but I just realized that there's actually a room assigned. Anyone happen to know? I'll email the professor, but obviously he won't respond now at this hour.

FINANCIAL AID If it high school still hasn’t sent out your transcripts should you just drop all summer courses?

Classes for me start tomorrow and I’ve been on MDC and my High School’s ass about my transcript and FAFSA and nothing has happened thus far, I think I should just drop the classes and wait till fall. What y’all think?

P.s. my fault for the title, at the time I had sent this message out, I was awake for a whopping 2 seconds

Updated title - “If your high school still hasn’t sent out your high school transcripts, should you drop all of your summer courses or can I continue on with them and just wait it out more?”
