McGill Intramurals Pricing

Upvotes

I'm a new graduate student coming into McGill and looking at getting involved in intramural soccer. I looked at their website and saw that the price for 11v11 is 652 and 7v7 is 434?? At my undergrad it was maybe MAX 15 bucks. Is anyone else really confused by this pricing or am I missing something??? Here's the website

Symbolos (Academic Advising Tool) Update - Thank You + Developers Needed!

Hey everyone!

A few weeks ago, after about nine months of development, we made our first post about our free, online academic advising tool. Oh man, did that post get a lot of traction! So here's a little update from the team:

Stats from the last post:

- Over a hundred new users, with many coming back for daily use
- Over 15,000 views
- Over 50 shares and comments, we've had people reaching out about similar projects they're developing, and we swapped notes, which was cool!

On the technical side, we added:

- A real mobile app. We rebuilt the whole experience for phones! Native iOS/Android builds (via Capacitor), a proper bottom nav bar, redesigned mobile screens for every tab, and a native-feeling sign-in flow. No more desktop site crammed onto a small screen.
- Authentication fixes. Squashed a batch of sign-up/login bugs: the post-signup redirect that bounced people back to the landing page, cleaner handling of McGill emails at login, and clear error messages when your profile fails to load instead of a blank/stuck screen.
- A much smarter AI advisor. Prompt injection with actual course catalogue info, real professor history, and your live degree progress; plus proactive advice about upcoming academic milestones.
- More accurate degree planning; fixed course credit bugs, so your progress bar actually reflects reality.

To be clear on the AI question that came up a lot last time: it's not meant to replace an academic advisor, and we say that in the app itself. It's there to make setup and day-to-day tracking faster (transcript parsing, deadline reminders, proactive nudges), not to hand out advice you should be getting from a real advisor. And the course explorer and degree tracker, which people seem to actually rely on daily, don't touch AI at all.

On our request for developers:

Due to all this new traffic and feedback, we are overwhelmed with the amount of work and daily upkeep the site requires. We're a two-person team and there's more to build than the two of us can reasonably keep up with. If you're a McGill student who codes and wants to work on something real students are actually using daily, we'd love to have you. (Also, if you're not a coder, but think you can contribute in some capacity to the project, that is more than welcome as well)

This is all to say, thank you. To everyone who signed up, left feedback, or even gave us harsh criticism. As a student-centered website, it's our job to listen to you, and implement your feedback with as much transparency as possible. And obviously, none of this would be possible without this community.

Everything on Symbolos is and always will be free, no ads, no tracking, McGill-email gated, and you can delete your account and data in one click, no retention. That's not changing as we grow.

Thank you again for making this worth building, and we hope to hear from you soon :)

OPUS reduced fare card for Fall Semester only possible?

Hi all, I am in incoming exchange student for the Fall Term 2026 and saw that the OPUS card T&Cs stated that I would need to be enrolled across Fall and Winter semesters.

Are there any workarounds for this, or would I need to pay full price passes for the public transportation? Thank you for the help!

Losing access to OneDrive files after graduation

I graduated last year (yay) and am losing access to all my McGill files at the end of the month (boo). I have a bunch of Word documents and OneNote files that I'd love to hold on to, but I'm worried that I'm saving them wrong and I'm still going to lose access. So far, I've just been saving everything as a compressed zip file and storing it on a USB. Will this work? Will I still have my documents? Is there a more efficient way to back up my files? Does anyone have advice for OneNote specifically? Thanks!

Visiting Montreal between Aug 23 - Sep 6; any campus events I should look out for while I'm here?

I'm an undergraduate Psychology student at UBC planning on visiting Montreal between Aug 23 and Sep 6. I'm planning on applying for McGill's MA Psychology program down the line, and would like to take some time while I'm visiting to explore the campus.

Are there any campus events happening around this time? I'm a big music and arts guy, and I also wouldn't mind having the opportunity to network with other psychology students (I'm an upper year student that does a lot of research in health psychology and public health - hit my line if you want to chat and network lol...)

I'm also taking suggestions for cool campus spots to visit. Thanks 🙏🔥

I am going to be a student at Mcgill in the fall and I am signed up to take four exemption exams for biology and math. I was wondering if any one knows how these exams work. Style of questions, number of questions, amount of time, passing percentage requirement?

Can’t log into mcgill account

I changed my phone recently and haven’t used authenticator app, and today I had to re-sign in to mcgill account on my laptop. So I went in to my phone and opened authenticator but I had to sign in on there as well, which asks me to use authenticator app to verify…. which i obviously don’t have access to. I checked the other options and both of them were WITH authenticator app.… so now what? how do I sign in to my account? I also tried to reset my password or smth and it also asked me to verify with authenticator😓

Biochem courses at McGill

Hey guys,

I need to take an introductory biochemistry course to meet the prerequisite requirements for a few medical schools. BIOC 212 is causing some issues with my application, and LSCI 211 conflicts with my schedule.

Does anyone know of any other introductory biochemistry courses, possibly offered under a different department or course code, that might satisfy the requirement?

Thanks!

I'm an upcoming freshmen from NYC, and am pursuing a career in law. I'm wondering what kind of internship oppurtunities in montreal there are, and if there are any people would recomend. I speak advanced-fluent french. With how competitive internships are new york (if you have any you'd recomend lemme know) , I'm curious if it is better, with the mcgill pipeline, in montreal.

ADHD Meds in QC from an ON student

Hello, I’m new in fall, I am an Ontarian with an Ontario Family Dr and private insurance from both parents. I take Vyvanse 50mg daily prescribed by my dr. My dr has concerns abt my access to Vyvanse in Quebec. I don’t wanna have to go to a border town just to get my meds. I will be opting out of student insurance as I have 2 private insurance plans so there is no need, but any other students that were in a similar experience have any solutions? I know Quebec laws won’t allow Ontario drs to prescribe narcotics in Quebec (eg my dr faxing my prescription to a pharamprix) however I am unclear. Should I start looking for a QC family dr? I know my private insurance will cover out of province meds that’s not a worry. What proof will I have to provide / what do I need to get from my family dr to prove that I take vyvanse? Should I ask for a letter, to bring to whoever is needed.

My CAQ came back as missing a few documents with an intent to refuse, does anyone know how long it takes for the resubmitted documents to come back?

I’m meeting with an immigration advisor Friday and intend to submit then. I’ve heard it takes usually much less time for the resubmitting.

FE3 coming up need advice

Does anyone know what I should expect for FE3? It feels like this huge, scary thing that's looming, and I'm so stressed and anxious about it. It also doesn't help that when our profs talk about it, they make it sound like it'll be hell on earth and we need to prep for it like doomsday or something. If any edu students could tell me their experience and how it went, or what your CT expect from you? Will I even get a moment alone to talk to my CT about their plans for the school year, or will I be thrown to the wolves and figure it all out on the first day of class in front of a dozen students? Like, I get that we're taking on 75% of the workload and blablabla, but everyone's talking abt percentages and not like...what that actually means?? Am I doing all the work while the CT sits back? If I am, then shouldn't they tell us our placements in advance so I can come up with a unit that's appropriate for whichever grade level I'm put in!? idk im so stressed plz help a girl out😔

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I start at McGill in september (move to MTL in august) and was wondering if the university has like a TTRPG club or if folks know a good gaming store? I just finished a long term DnD game and am looking to start/join a group who plays?

Is there an initiation event

Hi guys, since I got acceptent into Mc Gill I’m kinda doing everything by myself from selecting the right courses, doing the registration etc. I’m only part of a group on discord. Ive never talked to an advisor and I don’t have a mentor. I wonder if there will be some kind of initiation events for new students to connect with people and get information for the upcoming semester?

Has ANYONE ever taken FRSL 408 : Français oral: Textes et expressions

I really can't find any info about this course online.

My French is okay overall but I'm not very comfortable speaking it. On Reddit in general people seem very divided on these upper level FRSL courses. I could take it S/U but I'm worried that the workload might still be too heavy. Could anyone please share their thoughts???
