Chance me, as an American student concerned about GPA

Hey, I was wondering what my chances were for McGill as an American student applying next year.

I have a 3.53 uw, 4.4 w gpa, 13 aps (dk how much it helps but 4s and 5s in all) and a 1470 Sat score

I also plan to apply for Bachelor of Arts under political science or economics.

Honestly don’t know much about the Canada education system so I’m unsure.

Biochem courses at McGill

Hey guys,

I need to take an introductory biochemistry course to meet the prerequisite requirements for a few medical schools. BIOC 212 is causing some issues with my application, and LSCI 211 conflicts with my schedule.

Does anyone know of any other introductory biochemistry courses, possibly offered under a different department or course code, that might satisfy the requirement?

Thanks!

NYC or Montreal Internships?

I'm an upcoming freshmen from NYC, and am pursuing a career in law. I'm wondering what kind of internship oppurtunities in montreal there are, and if there are any people would recomend. I speak advanced-fluent french. With how competitive internships are new york (if you have any you'd recomend lemme know) , I'm curious if it is better, with the mcgill pipeline, in montreal.

ADHD Meds in QC from an ON student

Hello, I’m new in fall, I am an Ontarian with an Ontario Family Dr and private insurance from both parents. I take Vyvanse 50mg daily prescribed by my dr. My dr has concerns abt my access to Vyvanse in Quebec. I don’t wanna have to go to a border town just to get my meds. I will be opting out of student insurance as I have 2 private insurance plans so there is no need, but any other students that were in a similar experience have any solutions? I know Quebec laws won’t allow Ontario drs to prescribe narcotics in Quebec (eg my dr faxing my prescription to a pharamprix) however I am unclear. Should I start looking for a QC family dr? I know my private insurance will cover out of province meds that’s not a worry. What proof will I have to provide / what do I need to get from my family dr to prove that I take vyvanse? Should I ask for a letter, to bring to whoever is needed.

My CAQ came back as missing a few documents with an intent to refuse, does anyone know how long it takes for the resubmitted documents to come back?

I’m meeting with an immigration advisor Friday and intend to submit then. I’ve heard it takes usually much less time for the resubmitting.

FE3 coming up need advice

Does anyone know what I should expect for FE3? It feels like this huge, scary thing that's looming, and I'm so stressed and anxious about it. It also doesn't help that when our profs talk about it, they make it sound like it'll be hell on earth and we need to prep for it like doomsday or something. If any edu students could tell me their experience and how it went, or what your CT expect from you? Will I even get a moment alone to talk to my CT about their plans for the school year, or will I be thrown to the wolves and figure it all out on the first day of class in front of a dozen students? Like, I get that we're taking on 75% of the workload and blablabla, but everyone's talking abt percentages and not like...what that actually means?? Am I doing all the work while the CT sits back? If I am, then shouldn't they tell us our placements in advance so I can come up with a unit that's appropriate for whichever grade level I'm put in!? idk im so stressed plz help a girl out😔

Looking for a DnD group

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I start at McGill in september (move to MTL in august) and was wondering if the university has like a TTRPG club or if folks know a good gaming store? I just finished a long term DnD game and am looking to start/join a group who plays?

Can't register for an elective

I'm an incoming U1 bio major who wasn't able to register for any of the electives that I was interested in and that fit in my schedule on the day that registration opened. I've gone back and tried multiple times to register for an elective (one for fall and one for winter) but each time I come back every elective is full or has a closed reserve. Right now I'm at 11 credits for each semester so I definitely need 1 more class for each. How do students usually deal with this issue?

Is there an initiation event

Hi guys, since I got acceptent into Mc Gill I’m kinda doing everything by myself from selecting the right courses, doing the registration etc. I’m only part of a group on discord. Ive never talked to an advisor and I don’t have a mentor. I wonder if there will be some kind of initiation events for new students to connect with people and get information for the upcoming semester?

Has ANYONE ever taken FRSL 408 : Français oral: Textes et expressions

I really can't find any info about this course online.

My French is okay overall but I'm not very comfortable speaking it. On Reddit in general people seem very divided on these upper level FRSL courses. I could take it S/U but I'm worried that the workload might still be too heavy. Could anyone please share their thoughts???

As the tittle says I was looking through her year book and stumbled across this page, she says it must’ve been some inside joke they had (she was in engineering if that gives any context) but if anyone knows what it might be let me know

How do you join an honours program

I am beginning my bachelor in physics and computer science in fall, but if i understand correctly, i would need to be in the join honours program to be able to do 400 - 500 level courses ( which i need because i'm aiming for a phd ).

The thing is, from what i read, i need to finish U1 before getting in an honours program, but the joint honours program has courses like "Honours algorithms and data structures" and then some basic courses from the normal program.

what does this mean? does it mean that i could ask to be changed to the honours program right now? I have a very high standing in math and computer science from college

Looking for advice from former exchange students

i'll be doing an exchange semester at mcgill starting in august and got a room at solin hall. since there is a long list of things that you need to bring i wanted to ask whether anyone can recommend shops where you can buy all of that for a relatively cheap price and good quality.

also, is there anything (not) on this list that you recommend bringing or not bringing? did you bring anything from home? and what did you do with your stuff after moving out?

please feel free to comment any advice you have relating to this!

thank you :)

Chances of getting into INTD 200 or ECON 208 from the waitlist for Fall 2026?

Hi everyone,
I’m an incoming U1 student at McGill for Fall 2026, and I just put myself on the waitlists for INTD 200 and ECON 208.
I’m planning to complete a Minor in International Development, and these two courses are required credits for the minor, so getting into at least these classes is really important for my degree planning.

Do you think I have a realistic chance of getting into either of these courses from the waitlist?
Is there usually a lot of movement before/during the add-drop period for those courses specifically?

Also would it be a good idea to email the professors directly and explain my situation, asking if they could let me into the course despite it being full and me being in the waitlist?
If emailing professors is recommended, when would be the best time to do it (now, closer to the start of the semester, during add/drop, etc.)?

Thank you!!!

Early move-ins for upper res: possible?

Hi!

So I'm an upcoming med-p student who'll be staying in gardner. I received the email to schedule my check-in time for my dorm, which were for August 20th onwards. However, there is an obligatory in-person orientation for med-ps on Aug. 19th, and the med-p/dent-p frosh is from Aug. 14th-16th which I for sure want to attend. Seeing as I'm not from Mtl, do you guys think there could be a possibility to get an early move-in, at least for august 19th? If not, any alternative resources would be much appreciated!
