World Map of Universal Healthcare Coverage.

Post image
3.7k Upvotes

For those who don't know what that is . Universal healthcare is a comprehensive health policy framework designed to ensure that all individuals and communities have access to the full spectrum of essential, high-quality health services they need—including health promotion, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care—without suffering financial hardship. At its core, the system shifts the economic burden of medical care from the individual to a collective pool, typically funded through general taxation, social health insurance, or a combination of both. By decoupling financial capability from medical access, universal healthcare aims to eliminate health inequities, prevent the catastrophic out-of-pocket expenses that frequently drive families into poverty, and improve overall public health outcomes. Implementing such a system requires a robust infrastructure, including a well-trained healthcare workforce, reliably managed facilities, and equitable access to safe, affordable medicines and technologies. Ultimately, while different countries adopt varying structural models—ranging from single-payer government-run systems to heavily regulated universal private insurance—the unifying objective is to treat healthcare as a fundamental human right and a critical cornerstone of social and economic stability.(paragraph copied from google for educational purposes )

America's Drunkest and Driest Counties & Cities

Thumbnail

The map above shows the drunkest and driest US counties based on the share of excessive drinkers.

The drunkest is Gallatin, MT where 26.8% of people are excessive drinkers.

And the driest is Utah, UT where only 9.04% of people are excessive drinkers.

The map leverages data from the latest annual datasets of the CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps (CHR&R) program.

In every county on this list, more than one in every four adults drink excessively, while nationwide, fewer than one in five do.

Counties are ranked on the share of adults who either binge drink or drink heavily.

CHR defines binge drinking as consumption of more than four drinks in a single occasion for women and more than five drinks for men, while heavy drinking is defined as more than one drink a day on average for women and more than two drinks a day for men.

Edit: Some people have pointed out limitations with the map, which is fair. The county estimates come from CDC survey data and are modeled (MRP), so they're estimates, not direct measurements. Self-reporting, nonresponse, and statistical modeling can introduce error, especially near state borders. The map is best viewed as showing broad regional trends rather than precise county-to-county differences.
