Mega Thread - LinkedIn Restrictions, Hacked Accounts and Inability to Access

Hi everyone,

To make it easier for everyone to follow conversations and keep discussions in one place, please share general questions about account restrictions and ID verifications here in our official mega thread. Please note that individual posts on this topic may be removed. Additionally, for your privacy and safety, please do not share your personal information or support case numbers in the comments.

We know that losing access to your LinkedIn account or facing restrictions can be really frustrating.  We want to help as much as possible, and there are important things to know:

We Can’t Investigate Account Restrictions on Reddit

For everyone’s safety and privacy, moderators cannot directly investigate or resolve account restrictions here on Reddit. We understand that this may not be an answer you were hoping for, but if you’ve followed the instructions to appeal, please know your case is with the right team.

Common Questions & Quick Answers

Q: My account was hacked or compromised. What can I do?

A: We know how stressful unauthorized account access can be, and our goal is to help you get back in control as quickly as possible. If you think someone else has gotten into your account, don’t panic - our team can help. Just follow these instructions to report unauthorized access and our team will be in touch to help you with the next steps to secure your account.

Q: I lost access to my email address and I don’t have a back up. How can I get back in?

A: This scenario might feel tricky, but the good news is that we have steps you can take to reach our team to help you regain access and update your log in information. Just as a heads up, we’ll need to confirm your identity to regain access. Here’s how to get the process started.

Q: Why is my account restricted?

A: Restrictions can happen for a number of reasons, including safety and security concerns or activity that violates the LinkedIn User Agreement. For more information about different types of restrictions, you can check out our Community Bookmarks or visit the LinkedIn Help Center

Q: How do I appeal a restriction?

A: If you believe your account was restricted in error, you can file an appeal by following the instructions you see on screen when you log into your account. Your case will be reviewed by the LinkedIn Safety Team and they’ll reach out with an update as soon as possible. The team’s current response time is sitting right around 7-10 business days. We know the wait feels long, and we appreciate you bearing with us as we work on getting back to everyone.

Please Note: Submitting multiple support cases for the same problem can actually slow things down for everyone, including you, so we recommend avoiding creating multiple appeals for the same issue.

Q: Why are you asking me for an ID? Is it safe?

A: When we review an account for reinstatement, it’s important that we make sure we’re giving access back to the real account owner. Because we’re an online company and we don’t have a way to work together in person, requesting identity documents through Persona is the next best way for us to confirm account ownership.

Although you’ll access Persona’s verification process through the LinkedIn app, Persona will be collecting the personal data required to verify your identity and such collection is done pursuant to Persona’s policies. Persona only shares information about you with LinkedIn if you consent to the sharing. We process the data solely for account recovery purposes. It is kept only while we resolve account-related issues and is typically deleted permanently within 14 days.. Learn more on data and sharing with Persona here.

Q: I have problems with ID verification. What can I do?

A: Make sure your ID is government-issued, like a driver’s license, state ID or a passport. For the best results, it’s important that the document is clear and matches your account details. For a successful submission, it’s also important to remember to consent to share information with Persona. If your ID meets this criteria and you’re still having trouble, check out these additional troubleshooting steps for further assistance.

Q:  It says I already submitted a request?

A: There are a few reasons this error may appear including if you have an appeal in progress or if you’ve revisited the Persona verification flow multiple times in a short period. If you receive this message, we first recommend clearing your browser’s cache and cookies. If that does not resolve the problem, we recommend waiting 7 days before attempting a new appeal.

Q: My restriction is permanent. Now what?

A: If you’ve received a final decision from our Safety Team, please understand we can’t change the outcome here. However, you can reply to your case email if you wish to provide more information or request a second look.

Thanks for reading and understanding!

job search Is it true what people say, about LinkedIn job postings?

I've applied a lot through LinkedIn a lot for years but for some reason I never get feelers of anything.

Most of my jobs have come from people reaching out to me. A friend of mine told me that LinkedIn job postings are faked or not postings.

Thoughts?

In search of a solution to avoiding the Persona request to log back into account

Upvotes

Absolutely disgusted with this request. I've reached out to LI support on Twitter. I requested an alternative method so I don't have to go through Persona and they keep linking me their useless support page. In case anyone hasn't read up on it, the contact form on the LI website doesn't work. When you submit, it doesn't even confirm anything. Surely, this is a way to bypass this. Would love to have a discussion on this.

How do I close a LinkedIn account?

Upvotes

Apparently after a beer or two, I joined LinkedIn a few months ago. Why? I haven't a clue. Now, after a million mails from them, I'm trying to escape. But can't.

I don't have the password to my own account.

I use Firefox on Mac. All passwords and logins are saved in it. Even new registrations. If I used my own email address when registering, it should show up there.

I might have used the easy way, using my accounts at either Google or Apple to create a LinkedIn account. But I can't find any setting in my accounts at Google or Apple that says so.

Due my own stupidity and beer consumption, I can of course just delete all LinkedIn mails as I see fit. But I'll rather end the LinkedIn account.

Suggestions?

Cheers!
Dan

Saved lead list in Sales Nav shows 17 leads but only 7 will display?

WTF! I just created this list in the last 1.5 hours and saved my 17 results into a named list in Sales Navigator. The display on the leads home page clearly shows "17 total reesults" but when I click into the list, only 7 display. Anyone have any idea what's going on? The AI help tool was completely useless at troubleshooting. I've never had this problem before!

Can’t change my primary email because I no longer have access to it

I’m trying to change the primary email address on my LinkedIn account, but I keep getting stuck in a verification loop.

Here’s the situation:

  1. My current primary email address belonged to a previous employer, so I no longer have access to it.
  2. I already have other email addresses added and verified on my LinkedIn account.
  3. I’m trying to make one of those verified secondary email addresses my new primary email.
  4. When I select “Make primary,” LinkedIn first sends a verification code to my current primary email, the one I can’t access.
  5. I then choose the option to verify using one of my secondary emails instead or phone number,
  6. I receive the code on my secondary email or phone number, enter the cod and submit everything successfully.
  7. LinkedIn redirects me back to my email settings, but nothing changes. My old work email is still listed as the primary email.

I’ve also tried verifying through my phone number, but the same thing happens. I’ve tested this on multiple computers, different browsers, and my phone, with no success.

Has anyone experienced this issue or found a way to get LinkedIn to manually change the primary email?

Is there a way to change private profile characteristics?

Currently, my private profile characteristics just say “Someone at [School name]” when viewing profiles. I would rather it show my employer instead. I tried to remove my education and it still kept showing it with my school name. Any ideas or tips to change this?

Does anyone use LinkedIn sales navigator

Hello everyone! I am looking to use LinkedIn Sales Navigator, but damn it is it expensive. I’ve already used up my free trial for this year about 8 months ago, so it’s a while until I’d be able to get another trial.

However, I’ve found that you are supposed to be able to send someone a referral link, so that the receiver gets 2 months for free. I figured I could check with the subreddit on here to see if anyone is paying for Sales Navigator, who might be willing to help out.

If so, please DM me, and then we need to become 1st-degree contacts, and then be able to send an invite.

In return to the community, I’ll send a referral to as many as possible who also would like a free trial.

Thanks in advance :)

advanced question LinkedIn Games leaderboards for the Expert Challenge is annoyingly bad

I'm one of those people who actually plays the LinkedIn games every day. Zip, Queens, the whole lineup. I've got a streak going and a handful of friends I race on the leaderboard, just a nice little hit of "I did a thing" before work.

So here's the problem. On Zip and Queens, if you scroll down past the daily puzzle there's an Expert Challenge, which only unlocks after you share the game link with 3 connections. Fine, I did the referral dance, whatever. The Expert Challenge is genuinely harder than the daily, which is the entire point of it.

But when you finish it, your expert time overwrites your daily leaderboard time.

So I solve today's Zip in 40 seconds, feel good about myself, then do the Expert one and take five minutes because it's designed to be brutal. Now my friends open the leaderboard and see me sitting at 5:12 on an easy daily like I've never seen a grid before.

These should be two separate leaderboards. Or at minimum, don't let the harder optional mode clobber the score for the mode everyone's actually comparing. It's a weirdly basic bug for a feature they clearly want people to engage with and they gated it behind sharing with three people, so someone at LinkedIn cares about it.

Side note: does anyone here even play these? I genuinely can't tell if it's me and four coworkers or if there's a real playerbase.

Order ‘License & Certifications’ by date in user profile

The license & certifications doesn’t allow for any sorting. The basic one would be by date which isn’t there by default. I wanted to report this via feature request but haven’t found a way to do this. [basic user, not premium]

*My experience with the predatory deception that is a Premium Trial*

LinkedIn's promoted “30-day free trial” is actually a 25-day free trial as buried within their Terms & Conditions. Their goal clearly being to snare people into a $198 charge for a service they intended to try out, not purchase outright. I signed up on May 7 and understood that 30 days meant I had until June 7 to cancel. I canceled on June 5, but apparently two days early wasn’t good enough for LinkedIn. Here’s what their customer service rep wrote in a lengthy series of communications:

To explain why this renewal took place, when the premium subscription was first activated, the Terms and Conditions stated that the membership would automatically renew unless cancelled at least 3-5 days before the next billing date.

Incredible that LinkedIn misleads customers into thinking they’ve cancelled their trial when there are additional steps to cancel, notification of an impending charge or trial end is not sent, and their members are on the hook for an entire year instead of the monthly installment plan with no recourse.

I opted not to continue with the Premium account after discovering that it had little to offer for the cost. That is unless you’re in the market for job notifications that are a month old with hundreds of earlier applicants, regular declarations that your profile is getting lots of views which turn out to be their bot network pushing you as ‘people you might know’ or AI drivel on whether you’re a fit for a job along with an obviously bot generated cover letter.

Is the Easy Apply section of Linkedin Fake

I have been using LinkedInd for the past 5 years and have applied through the Easy Apply section for long time right now and I have felt that even though most of the job requirements are match still the CV’s are getting rejected every time.

I don’t know what is the use of that section if we the CV does not read correctly and get auto rejected. Also the rejection Email will come all at once, which means that all the recruiters of different companies are reviewing the CV at once.

Of course, LinkedIn can be a better platform to showcase a person’s career progression and is ideal for networking. However, the problem is that it is quite limited in terms of connecting people and sharing skills and experience.

Easy Apply Limit

How am I getting capped at 35? This is insane. They also cap you at the speed you are applying at. I think it's insane that fake job groups I've BEEN reporting are still on the platform, but as a premium user, I can't apply for as many jobs as I'd like.

"You have reached the limit of InMail sends for this month."

I'm using the Premium trial for LinkedIn to try and reach out to the developers of a game for verification on some information regarding a t-shirt I purchased. I was able to message one, but when I tried messaging another it tells me I've reached the limit for the month, but I still have 46 credits (the failed sends still counted towards them). Is there any idea of when this will be fixed? I can't imagine this is intentional, and it's frustrating because I don't want to wait and let my trial expire just to have to wait a full year to do it again.

Client loved my work, asked for a monthly rate... then went silent.

Had a video call with a potential client who really liked my work. The conversation went well, and he asked what I'd charge on a monthly basis.

I told him I'd think it over and send him a quote. Later that day, I sent him a breakdown based on my usual hourly rate and proposed a monthly retainer. It also happened to be in line with what he said he typically pays new employees.

He saw the message but never replied.

Two days later, I sent a short follow-up. He hasn't even opened that message.

Now it's been about 10 days since then.

Should i send one final follow-up or just move on? I'm trying to figure out if there's any value in reaching out one last time, or if silence is already my answer.

Also, am I the only one who wishes more clients would just say "Thanks, but we're not interested," instead of leaving people hanging? Even a simple no would be so much better than wondering whether to keep following up.

the people worth reading are the ones not posting

feels like there's an inverse relationship on here

the more someone has actually done, the less they post about it

if you could write about your work but don't, i'd like to know why

not trying to convince anyone to post, just trying to understand the block

what is it for you?

privacy and security LinkedIn asks you for ID verification and applies account bans

More and more people are unable to access their LinkedIn accounts (especially those who created them in the last year).

I see people complaining on TikTok, X, Instagram, or Reddit that they can't access their accounts until they verify their ID or passport. It's a bit of forced treatment of users.

The second case is also a bit ridiculous – LinkedIn blocks you when you engage as a person (not as a bot) and restricts your account from a few hours to a few days, and it can result in a permanent ban. I myself was unable to access my account for 168 hours (7 days).

While there is a solution to the second problem, e.g. counter activities / Chrome extensions like SafeLimit, the first one is unsolvable.

Is it at all in line with any user rules for the platform to ask you for private data from ID?
I mean... before, they didn't ask for an ID card or passport at all, and you could use the platform. Now not.

If LinkedIn has the ability to make an assessment of fit through it's Low-Medium-High Match system, why can't I filter for High Match jobs or filter for them?

Maybe this does exist, and I'm not smart enough to figure out how to do so. I hold space for this reality too.
