I play versus a lot and for an unknown reason I see everyone on the first chapter of dead center choose melee weapons and me being the only one with the pistols.

Don’t get me wrong - I love melees and choose them always over pistols (except this chapter)

The reason for that is that I have seen countless times a team needing to either rush to help someone being taken by a smoker/hunter/jockey and not being able to just shoot them down or not being able to shoot a boomer down which is easily visible etc

From my perspective yeah of course the melee gets the commons out of the way perfectly, but sucks when it comes to the specials which can just use that fact for their advantage…

The question is, why is everyone always choosing the melee although all of that?

My game is modded with a ton of mods because i like modding shit into games but for some reason this keeps happening i dont know why it does this.

Seriously this is getting fucking ridiculous. I can't even find a vanilla game at all without running into these modded servers. And for those who're gonna say just use the openserverbrowser command i need you all to understand that i could be placed into friends-only or private lobbies. Additionally i have no agency regarding what difficulty it would be nor if it could be a mutation mode. Im also too stubborn to join their fuckass server asking to be banned

Yes I know this system is already like 16 years old and it shouldn't be worth complaining about, but there's more to it that's bullshiter!

The first problem is finding a game or lobby, you know how it goes, select the gamemode, select the "Play Online" option, go through the browser, select the game/lobby you want to join, and you're on your way, easy as pie, right? it's very efficient that hopefully the game you've chosen to hop in is an actually good one, like an good old vanilla server :)

...right?

Well it's not always the case, yes you may be able to join a vanilla, or I should say official dedicated server server at your preference, or perhaps a mediocre one, or a modded one, or even worse, an CHINESE ONE! That's the problem of the game browser, almost every game you join is 75% guaranted to be an heavily-modded server with instant tanks, custom infected skins for survivors, chinese text, it's all over the place!

You know, it's not like they exist, it's that the browser just filters to find every game and lobby out there, YES, ALL GAMES AND LOBBIES, NO MATTER IF IT'S AN OFFICIAL DEDICATED, LOCAL, OR MODDED, and that's the most fatal flaw of the game/lobby browser for me, there is less options! I mean, come the fuck on! You could filter to search for any campaign, any game, any lobby, on any difficulty, but NOT FILTER whenever it's a official dedicated session or not??? Why can't Valve do the quickplay thing like in old TF2? Whenever you search for a game, you can go through the advanced options, you can join to a official Valve server, a community one, with plently of options. and that was an 2007 game! So if TF2 could do it, why not Left 4 Dead??? WHAT WAS PREVENTING THEM FROM IMPLEMENTING A SIMPLE ADDITIONAL FILTERING FEATURE???

You might say "Duh, just use the classic server browser lel", and while that's sort-of helpful, it STILL dosen't help that much either, because you also have no idea if the server you wanna join in is a vanilla one or a CHINESE ONE! There's no way to tell there too! Sometimes they have custom names on the "game" tag and it's another peeve of mine since CS 1.6 and CS:S servers, YOU HAVE ZERO IDEA WHAT TO EXPECT!

"Then go play with bots, why do you bother joining online matches if you're not gonna get what you want anyway lmao" Well let's just say you've kinda grown tired playing with the bots (even with addons) and you feel like going out to the open, you NEED some fresh air, play with some players or your friends, have some fun, get drunk, all that good stuff, you can't just lock yourself to single-player only for the rest of your life and not worry about everything else, too bad that sometimes the people you play with can either be a shithead, a n*zi, or a Zoey simp (okay maybe that one's not THAT bad), still, no matter how many bad apples playing in a normal server can be, it's nice to have some precious fresh air, even if it's just for a short while.

Now, I do see people seem to have no problem playing on these Chinese servers, that's fine with me, if you like puking in a pile of shit, I respect that, I'm just asking for one thing; KEEP THEM AWAY FROM ME! DON'T SHOVE THOSE MODDED BULLFUCK SERVERS AROUND MY FACE LIKE "HEY MAN, WANNA HAVE SOME CANDY? IT'S SO GOOD IT MADE ME FINALLY SHIT ON THE TOLIET AFTER 13 YEARS" I don't care! I get that modded servers left a mark in your childhood since day one, just lemme play on my vanilla servers, it's not like in CS 1.6 where Zombie mod, Deathmatch, and other community servers were a part of my childhood on CS that I'll never forget, I've been playing L4D2 since December 2024 when my friend gifted me it. I dunno, maybe I should've been there during 2013 or some shit, I wish I knew L4D2 back then.

Anyway, the game/lobby browser is broken because the Chinese poisoned our water, Valve failed the opportunity to add more options to the browser filters long ago, and that's bullshit!

...oh wait, that's not bullshit... THAT'S NONSENSE!

Four of us all have limited accounts and want to play together, is there a way to do this without trial and error?
