Compliance, Indian flag code prohibit the use of flag for commercial, trade purposes.

How does that work with shipping? As ships need to be flagged under a nation.

It’s restricted for use in commercial branding or marketing specifically, it’s fine to fly on ships

They usually use the three colored strips similar to the actual with the word India underneath to identify from India.
