Captured in southern New Mexico. The darker of the two was already missing some limbs when the fight broke out. It looks like that one has had a rough life.

These things are also pretty big. The brown one could wrap around a baseball. They sun themselves on the stucco in the mornings. This is the first time I’ve seen them engage with each other like this. The area is also covered in tarantula hawks. If you like gnarly bugs, NM is the place to be!

If someone could articulate the difference between these two (species, gender, etc..) , it would be greatly appreciated.

As the title states. Notice these black bugs around my sliding glass door and they typically don’t make it far into the house before dying. Sorry for the rough picture, this one was very small, but the biggest one I have seen was probably a quarter of an inch. I live in Oklahoma. Any help is appreciated!

Located in Charlotte, NC. Has wings and was the size of about two quarters.

We have found three moths in our house over the past 48 hours - I still need to get a photo, but they are about an inch long and 1-2 inches wide. They are not pantry moths or clothes moths. They look like what I would consider outdoor moths, but we have found them inside on two different floors. I found this caterpillar today in our kitchen on yet a separate floor. Apologies for the poor photo, but I had to kill it before I could track down my phone. It was black with two white stripes, and about an inch long.

Does anyone have any idea what these might be?? I don’t know how to get rid of them without knowing what they are.

Here you can see her searching for and briefly finding a place to lay some eggs with her ovipositor in the soft dirt in between the rocks. This female will lay between 100-200 eggs in her very short adult lifetime. Also known as a Longhorn Beetle (the very long, segmented antennae is an easy giveaway). These beetles are nocturnal and quite massive. This one is considerably smaller (about 1 ½ inches) than most of the females I have seen here in North East Pennsylvania recently. The largest I've seen was 3 inches long! Despite possessing wings, females are too heavy and solid to fly. They are non-toxic and harmless to humans. While they are equipped with very strong mandibles, they do not bite unless severely provoked. They are considered pests among agriculture and forestry.

Disclaimer: I know this picture is awful and our baseboards are disgusting. Unfortunately we were landlord special’d and they painted all this dust, hair, debris into the baseboards. I’ve tried scrubbing, unfortunately nothing I can do.

That’s beside the point!! Can anyone ID what these bugs are that are crawling out of our baseboards in our apartment? I noticed them in another corner as well. They seem to be dead, which is a good sign that pest control is working or that these unlucky dead ones fell from behind the wall. They have wings, but they don’t quite look like termites? They sorta look like ants if anything, but I don’t think they’re ants.

Connecticut. Was flying around my window and landed on my patio. Looks pretty cool. Can anyone identify this?

Someone made me aware of what looks like a mud dauber nest being built above my front door today; definitely new, as it has not even fully dried yet, which is kinda cool to see. I know they're fairly docile and not likely to mess with me, so I'm not inclined to move it or harm it in any way.

My only problem is that I adore spiders and I kinda have a bleeding heart when it comes to them - and there are a ton of orb weavers and wild jumpers living just outside in the potted plants and on the railing.

This might sound kinda silly, but... is this wasp going to wipe out my wild spider buddies? :( I know it's the way of nature, and I don't have intentions of interfering with the food chain - it just kinda bums me out and i wanna know if I should be prepared to see my buddies disappear completely, or if there will just be less of them.

Hello! I’m considering getting my nephew (almost 5) a blue death feigning beetle for his birthday, his mom is 100% down & he loves bugs. Once he found a dead beetle (couldn’t tell you the type just was big) & would not put it down for ANYTHING. He look a bath with it floating in a toy boat. Before I take the plunge I’m wanting to get an idea of care & costs & confirm again with his mom. Here are my questions:

Do they need friends?
What is the monthly cost?
What is the upkeep for their environment like?
Do they like to be handled or left alone?
What is the most hardest thing about caring for them?

I know a pet as a gift is often frowned upon because they get loved for a month, don’t get proper care, & then get dumped at a shelter. I can assure you dear reader that they are not that kind of family, they adore animals & critters & bugs, have several pets, including stick bugs, & any creature that enters their home will be well loved & cared for.

Here we have an l3 larva (that still have quite a lot left to grow) of Mecynorhina torquata ugandensis, blue line. This is a famous flower beetle from central Africa widely kept in captivity for its ease of care, huge color variability and relatively fast larval time; it's also impressively sized, second only among flower beetles to (not even all) species of the genus Goliathus, the Goliath beetles. This specimen in particular is a male. In the second pic you can see the whole body, while in the first he's busy kinda looking like the brainbug from Starship Troopers.

Last picture is the size of the milkweed. I don't know if that changes anything 🤷‍♀️

As the title states, there's dead flies attached to the underside of my milkweed. I've counted about 20 so far? I've had the plant for about 3 years now, but I've never seen this happen. What is it?

Found this little guy flapping about outside, seems one of its wings might be damaged or the heat is too much.

Brought em inside and Sister & Lil' Niece gave some sugar water to freshen up hopefully it helps get their strength back up 😤
