It’s surprisingly made a tiny, very cute leaf! What do I do now to keep it happy and making more sweet leaves?

1 month into this godless war against the wretched fungus gnats. I am a woman crazed. Is there any hope? Are there any stories of this war being won?

Current methods:

• 50 goddamn sticky traps across my plants.
• Replaced soil on 2 most infected (afaik) and entirely tossed out 1 big plant w/ infected soil.
• Bottom watering (where possible) and using watering globes for the rest.
• Letting the top inches dry out and watering with mosquito bit “tea.”
• Blocked entrance to the drainage holes.

Is this even safe to use?

My indoor hibiscus, which is special friend gave to me many years ago (I. E. It has high sentimental value), started sprouting all these beautiful leaves this spring, which subsequently over the past six weeks have all been falling off at a fairly alarming rate. I finally took it out of the pot to investigate, as I suspected it was root-bound. Boy, is that an understatement! It’s pretty much all roots, and almost no soil. I’m not even sure how to approach this. I’ve stuck it in a bucket of water for now to try to loosen the matted root tendrils a bit. What do I need to know?

Update a month later: after hacking off half the rootball on the bottom and several inches all around the sides and putting it in a bigger pot, my hibiscus is flourishing. Lots of new leaves and I awoke to a beautiful pink flower. Crazy how much I hacked off and it seems super happy now.

I know how it sounds but hear me out! My monstera is so beautiful and I’m obsessed with her but she’s getting ENORMOUS.

I can’t close my blinds properly anymore!

I don’t want to cut her and can’t move her back any further or she’ll block the TV.

Thoughts? I’m thinking maybe a stronger pole would help her grow more upright?

*EDITED TO ADD: I wasn’t super clear in my post… I know how to repot things. I’m curious about the soil makeup and what type of pot.

My dad passed away 3 months ago, I loved him with my entire being. He spent the last few years of his life sitting next to this tree. The family’s plan was to toss it, which I clearly could not let happen, so I drove 2,000 miles to bring it to my home lol.

My dad never repotted the poor guy, I’d guess that it’s been in this container for 3 years now. Its leaves do show some damage of sorts (see pics) and there’s some drooping, but otherwise it seems to be doing ok. This all being said, he needs to be repotted.

I’m so scared of hurting this tree, I have likely an unhealthy level of obsession and commitment to it. My dad’s carbon is inside this thing, it’s all I have left of him. So….

What soil makeup should I use? I will make my soil from scratch, so anything is possible. What type of pot do you think he would do well in? I’ve never had a plant like this (I believe it’s a variegated rubber tree) and Google is telling me all different things so truly any advice is SO appreciated 💗

I have about 5 moss pole supports in it right now but I need ideas for possibly anchoring it to the wall or a very mighty pole. The roots are grabbing into the wall and I’m letting them because I don’t think it would be able to support itself without. I unfortunately had a scare a few months ago when it had fallen over. I have propagated this plant a whole bunch but I’m not ready to cut it yet. Any ideas?

Edit: Thank you everyone for all the advice! I will be waiting on a repot and instead doing a hard trim, adding some worm castings, and doing more regular watering.

Hello! So I have a 15+ year old jade plant and I think it probably needs a repot. It’s been in its current pot for like 3 or 4 years at this point . I know it’s not that happy anymore, it has lost a ton of leaves over the last couple years. Normally when I repot I turn the plant upside down to get it out… but this plant is way too heavy for that. I’m just so intimidated that I’m going to break something with a repot, because it’s so awkward to grab.

I will also be moving soon, so I’ll need to move it then as well. Any advice from people who have dealt with large, heavy plants would be appreciated.

Also, I’m hoping to repot it in something a bit more shallow, because I read jade plant roots don’t go as deep. Is that true?

11 pound dog for scale

As the title says 😭 My husband poured half a cup of diluted powdered pedialyte in this pothos. Kiddos been sick and he wasn’t paying attention to what was in his cup, thought it was water and poured it in. Any suggestions on what to do? Am I going to watch it die? Send help!!

ETA: Love all the idiocracy comments! He may or may not have also been wearing crocs when he poured it in.. 

To those hating on my husband, it was an honest mistake. Our son only drinks water and milk. It was apple pedialtye so barely a color change in the cup.

Wanted to show off Albi, my 2 year old monstera albo :) we got her when she was a top cutting with two leaves and she’s survived one move across the city so far (may need to move again as she’s clearly outgrown this house already…).

Two options right now:

1. Take top cutting and propagate
2. Build a support structure for her to somehow crawl along the ceiling and go horizontal

(Secret option 3). Take off the roof of the house so there’s more room for Albi to grow upwards :)

What would you do?

edit 2: After much deliberation and due to the current state of the housing market and the economy in general, we have decided to "chop and extend" Albi. The rest of Albi will be propagated and sold as it's about time for Albi to start paying her fair share of the mortgage. The deed will be done some time in January.

I had seen this dove a few times and I knew she was planning to lay eggs, I tried to shoo her everytime I saw. All the nest building and egg laying happened in one day when we were out and the balcony door was closed all day. She also knew we had a cat and still went ahead and laid eggs here. Now my cat is fixated since morning. I don't want to hurt the bird but I know my cat may do it. I cannot keep the door closed for the entire time as I have other plants to care for and I have also been preparing for a winter/spring decor with lots of flowers. I just don't know what to do now..

It is slightly sticky when i wipe it off with my finger, and only a few particles are flying off. When shaking the leaves - most of it stays on.

Edit: I’ve got two more infested plants, although the elephant foot from the pictures is definitely the culprit. All three are quarantined in a grow tent in a separate room for now. I started cleaning them with leave soap and 70% iso

Once im done with that, they'll get sprayed with a mixture of garlic, onion, cayenne pepper, and a bit soap diluted in water. Will do that every other day for 2 weeks or so.

If i dont see any visible signs of them after 4 weeks, then ill keep them quarantined for another 2 weeks before reintroducing them to the rest of my plants.

The elephant foot is my favourite plant of all that i own, which is the only reason why ill put myself through this trouble instead of just throwing it out

Why is my Pink Princess so ugly? It gets a bright, east facing window all day. Its leaves are ratchet and are getting smaller, despite my giving it distilled water, and a little grow queen (5-5-5) every 3 weeks. Can I chop it somewhere and start over or should I call it, and put it out to pasture?

So I got an alocasia sinuata and I changed out the soil to have perlite and orchid bark for more air about two or three days ago. Woke up yesterday or so to it having a dramatic meltdown. I watered it with 1mL/gal superthrive foliage pro 936 (as I do all my alocasias) and have been keeping it in the north facing window it’s been in.

What else can I do to help it?

Note: that little light green leaf was like that when I bought it.

I have….. very large pothos plants in my house and I’m about to move to a new house next month. Very stressed out about moving these. Any tips?

You may remember my post last year “Massive Monstera is Sick” when I was trying to identify what was on the leaves of the Palm Springs Public Library’s 50 year old monstera (it was scale, ew).

This is the one year update on that post, and also a call to all Southern California plant lovers for some help.

For those who don’t know our library has a koi pond and in the center is a monstera. It’s a closed ecosystem where the fish and algae actually fertilize the plant! After learning about the scale, I managed to get into the pond using waders, giving it a good chop and cleaning as many of the many of the leaves as I could. I guess the plant liked that because for the first time ever it FLOWERED!!!! We got a fruit, but were sadly a little too eager and inexperienced so it didn’t survive long enough for us to taste.

The library is getting ready to undergo a 2 year renovation (it needs a lot of updating). Two weeks ago we had a “Going Away Party,” and during the event I was able to give away over 40 cuttings! I can’t tell you how happy it made me to see people so happy to get a piece of our plant! I know it will live on regardless of what happens next.

Now here’s the sad part. Despite my best efforts…I have not found anybody able to take this massive 50 year old plant. I get it, it’s huge! The community is terribly sad about the plant dying for the sake of the renovation and so am I. But I’m at a point where I don’t know what else to do.

So I’m putting it out there! If anyone is interested or knows someone who might be capable of caring for this plant (either permanently or temporarily) please let me know! Or if you’d like a cutting! I’ve been climbing into the pond for anyone who wants a piece and would be happy to do so if you can come by to get it.

Our last day open is in one week, Friday August 8th. That will be your last day to come see the plant. But if you wanted a piece we’ll be working inside for a few days after that. You can call and ask for Madison if you want to talk about getting a piece or if you want to take it.

And finally, thank you! In my post last year I met so many interesting people and got some fantastic advice. This community has been really nice. I know this isn’t the end we wanted for the monstera, but it will live on and I’m proud of that.

Question is the title. I’m not very good at plants, so I’m not sure if it’s doing that as a last ditch to reproduce bc it’s dying or if it’s happy. Should I remove the little sprouts and repot them? Or just put the whole thing in a bigger pot?

Miniature orchid that I bought at the drugstore last year that had really pretty yellow flowers. My other 2nd year orchids are shooting up more beams to produce more blooms, but this one is doing this. What can I do to help it do…whatever it’s trying to do here?

I inherited this plant from my dad a few years ago and it's steadily been going down hill. It used to be completely full of fat leaves but now it's all leggy and covered in this white fungus?

It has improved since I gave it a window all to itself but the white stuff hasn't gone.

I need help! I've had this money tree for years, but over the last year it's been progressively sicker and thinner. Leaves would sprout then it would get sickly and we'd have to remove them. Is there any hope or should we give it up?

I have this plant, no idea what it is. A succulent of sorts I think? It’s been doing a crazy thing for the last few months. Its stem started getting really thin, and I figured it was just dying — but it’s grown SO much in the “flower” part. It can’t support its own weight anymore!!

My question is, what are the pink fibres coming out of it? Are those roots? Can I just cut off the “flower” part and re-pot that in some soil? What does it want from me?!?
