Only 4 cameras, is this layout ok?

Hi, I'm new to CCTV. My parents asked me to plan where the cameras should go. We already have a 4 channel NVR and my dad doesn't want to replace it, so I'm limited to 4 cameras.

This is the layout I came up with. Do you think there's a better way to place them or cover more of the property

Recommendations for security screen doors & plantation shutters (Melbourne Outer North)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for recommendations for companies that supply and install security screen doors and plantation shutters around Melbourne's outer northern suburbs.

Happy to get a few quotes, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What’s the best way to have quick access to a firearm while keeping the child away from it? What safe does everyone recommend?

Cameras on side of house, how to not look like a creep?

I live in a neighborhood and I have cameras on the front and back of my house, both standalone and doorbell cameras. One of the sides of my house has no windows, the other has 4. I want to add a camera to that side, but I don't want it to look like I'm spying on my neighbor... because I'm not and don't want to. Any ideas how I can observe that side of my house? Maybe something besides a camera, maybe a motion sensor or something? Any ideas?

Home based "security" system

Hello. I'm trying to find a "security" system that'll fit what I need, but it feels like I'm just hitting a brick wall. I'm wanting to put sensors on windows and doors that will announce when one is opened and glass break sensors. Preferably via a phone notification and a audio announcement. It is for the peace of mind of my wife, and to make sure the little one doesn't sneak out. I don't need anything monitored, or with a subscription. It'll basically just be used while someone is home. Does such a system exist?

new home security camera setup

i just moved into a house with a big backyard and side access that feels exposed at night. i want to cover the main entry points and the yard without spending a fortune or dealing with constant false alerts. i have been researching systems and one local option that stood out is cctv installation brisbane for professional setup.

how important is night vision quality when choosing cameras for a backyard? what storage options work best if i want to keep footage for a few weeks? is it worth going for a system with phone alerts or should i keep it simple with local recording only? any advice on avoiding overkill for a normal house?

Best budget wired camera system with recording?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I live in a 3 unit condo building and run the hoa. Our old wired camera system stopped working so I need to replace it, but because we have wiring I'm hopeful it's just plug and replace. I need roughly 4 cameras with storage, and budget is an issue. Currently eyeing the eufy e40 system for $599. Is there a similar brand or system I should be looking at in this range? Does switching to a setup with the homebase allow me to monitor remotely without a subscription?

We woke up to a homeless man sleeping in our stairwell so I'm trying to find a solution quickly.

Thanks for the help!

what're the 3 easiest things you decided to do to help protect your home?

  1. 5" screws in the exterior door jams instead of the cheap-o ones included with the hardware. Makes it harder to kick in the door, or so I'm told.

  2. Dedicated nightstand gun (with weapon light), taken out of the safe every night and returned to it every morning. The tabletop safe is fast open/easy to do in moments.

  3. Strategic dogs. Ours are kept in the kitchen to alert us in advance (we got them what my wife calls our tactical dog sofa).

What about y'all?

How strong a signal to be considered a jammer?

I was trying to watch the World Cup on my tablet, which I've been doing for a few weeks, but I could not get a signal. I switched to a wired connection and the problem went away. I ran the signal detector on my phone and some 'Unknown' signal was coming in at -35db. My Arlo base station was coming in at -50 and it's a few feet from where I was sitting.

I had similar issues a few months ago when my cameras were losing their connection. Yes, i have wired cameras too, but I'd like to track down the rogue signal. My phone doesn't allow me to find the direction of the signal.

Is anyone running a signal jammer detector like HackRF One or Wi-Fi jammer detector. I'd like something that records the signal levels and sounds an alarm if a certain threshold is reached. A directional antenna would be nice too. Any better options out there, that are not ridiculously expensive?

Demonstration of a Wifi Jammer defeating a Ring Cam

This isn't mine, I found it from a nextdoor post. I believe this is a great demonstration of how wifi jammers can beat wireless security cameras, particularly interesting because of how you see him click the button on a device he's holding. I wonder if y'all agree that it's a Wifi jammer and have any additional info about it.

How to mount Tapo c645d on vinyl siding?

I got a Tapo C645D camera with the solar panel and I need to install it on my house vinyl siding but it looks won't work because the camera mount is big. I got a mounting block but it's big on my siding and has a lot of spaces if I used it and the other no drill blocks on Amazon I don't like using them specially I know the siding on my neighborhood aren't that good and with high winds it can end up with big problems.

I'm currently feeling lost and don't know what I should do to properly install the camera and not break anything.

Advice for a woman staying at home alone in a big house

Hi guys.

I still live at home, and my whole family is going out of town for almost two weeks. Which means I’ll be home alone. I live in a large house, which means many windows and external doors. I am extremely paranoid about having to be alone.

The biggest issue in my house is the huge windows all over the ground floor that have no curtains or blinds. When it’s dark outside and the interior lights are on you can see everything. This means the kitchen and other common areas are basically like a fishbowl.

I live in an affluent suburb of a large city with very little to no crime, but I always get worried about being the exception. I feel like as soon as my family leaves, I’m going to be an easy target. It’s worth mentioning that I have OCD that is most definitely manifesting itself into this home invasion fear. But regardless it’s better safe than sorry!

What I have in place so far:

  1. Home alarm system
  2. Cameras that point to the exterior and a few interior cameras
  3. A small (but mighty) dog
  4. A door stopper on the doors that dont have alarm sensors
  5. Pepper spray easily accessible to me
  6. Heavy duty locks on the doors in my bedroom
  7. Friends/boyfriend staying with me for some of the nights
  8. Porch lights on the exterior doors
  9. Planning to move the cars around so it looks like multiple people are home

I think my biggest concern are the large windows. I don’t know how to approach those. They are very tall and look into the second floor too.

Any advice is appreciated. I know I am probably overthinking it.

ADT guy said I wouldn’t owe anything now I’m cancelling and they say I took out a loan

ADT guy installed the security system at our house 7 months ago. Now I’m moving to an apartment and don’t have ADT (nor would I EVER want it again)!

I called to cancel the services and they said the person who stayed in my house can take over the payments for the monitoring. But because I was in a 60 month contract, I took out a loan for the equipment. This was NEVER told to me. In fact, I asked the man who installed it what it would cost and the man who installed it told me it was free! He said he was going to mark it as an update to existing equipment. He never once said it would be $69 a month for 5 years. Why the hell would I take a loan out and go into debt on security equipment? I told ADT this and they said that he should’ve told me but there’s nothing they can do.

Has anyone else been told it was free and then it wasn’t?? I point blank asked him the cost. They said I signed a contract. He handed me an iPad and said “I just need your signature here”. This is very shady and seems like illegal business practice.

Should I get an attorney? Or contact the BBB or FTC??

No way I am paying $3,000 for something that was supposed to be free that I’m not using anymore nor was I aware I was purchasing!

I bought my first home in a rough neighborhood, and am looking for a security system.

The house is amazing, easily the cutest on the street; but the bar is very low. For example my house has a clean white fence and it's butted up against the left neighbors chain-link vine catcher. So far there's been no problem, but I park my car on the street and it's only a matter of time until something is broken into.

What's a good security package for someone on a budget? I mostly want cameras, but I've seen some great looking sensors for yards and inside the house. I'm interested in hearing what people have had the best experience with.

Door is broken - Can't get a repair until tomorrow.

As the title says - I live in an apartment building and I have put in a maintenance request but it can't be done until tomorrow. its 2am and I live in a relatively safe neighborhood in a very under the radar apartment (it was built in the 70s and the hallways are extremely smelly and stained) as well as on the top floor

I can't fall asleep I am too anxious to have a slightly open door. I have it barricaded with a full laundry basket and a box of heavy cat litter a chair and my cats big travel crate.

Is there anything else I can do ? I don't own any heavy chairs or anything heavy in general.

Thank you
