What is Alarm.com?

Alarm.com provides smart security, home automation and remote control for the vast majority of home security companies, who combine it with their own professional monitoring (police/fire dispatch) and deliver it to customers. If you have a smart security system from a security company then you probably have Alarm.com.

Alarm.com offers both home security and smart home automation. Security and privacy are Alarm.com's biggest strengths. The home automation features are easy to use and great for many people but not as flexible as a dedicated home automation system that automation power users might prefer. Alarm.com pioneered connected home security. Today it's comparable to other large connected home security platforms such as Nest, Ring & SimpliSafe, and is the clear leader when it comes to security and privacy.

Alarm.com works with professional grade security alarm systems such as Qolsys, 2GIG, DSC and Interlogix. Honeywell Vista systems can also work using the system enhancement module (SEM). It uses Z-Wave for home automation devices such as lights, locks, thermostats, garage doors, energy management, water valves/meters & sprinkler systems. It uses WIFI for higher bandwidth devices such as cameras. See the Alarm.com ecosystem page for a non-exhaustive list of compatible products.

Alarm.com is a B2B company and does not sell directly to consumers. The only way to get it is from an Alarm.com provider. Alarm.com is white-labeled and branded to appear as if is comes directly from the security company. The larger Alarm.com providers have custom mobile apps, which are restyled versions of the regular Alarm.com app.

There are two kinds of Alarm.com providers, professional-installation and DIY (self-installation). The professional installation companies will come to your house and install the equipment for you. The DIY companies ship you the equipment to install yourself and only provide the online services and professional alarm monitoring. Professional-installation companies usually cost more and require long term contracts but save you from doing installation/maintenance work. DIY companies usually cost less and are often month-to-month but you have to do the installation/maintenance yourself.

Alarm.com has dominated home security for more than a decade and recently has broadened its platform to support commercial security as well, focusing on small and medium sized businesses.

Cameras/Door lock - similar to Vivint

I upgraded from SimpliSafe to a 2Gig Edge system. Trying to get as close to the Vivint experience without their insane pricing.

Two things:

  1. What door lock do you recommend? There are so many it’s overwhelming.

  2. Are you using alarm.com cameras or something else like reolink. I really want 24/7 local cameras but, at least where I’m looking, prices are much higher while Reolink is cheaper and 4k.

Thank you!

Dealer added alarm activation/enabling when you didn't pay for it at purchase...

So when I bought my 10th gen new, the sales person asked me if I wanted to pay via cash app to turn the alarm on the dealership added on when it entered their inventory from the factory....

I did not agree and that's that.

Now I'm interested in activating /turning it on and I'm not sure what I need to do?

I know when I removed the door panel to do some work, I saw some aftermarket connections to the window switch wiring harness, so I know it's there.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can use this alarm without paying?

Thank you!

doorbell ID

Came with the house...I think it's time for a replacement. I thought it might be Ring, but it's not. I believe it's an older alarm.com doorbell but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the plate. Don't want to break it in the process. Can someone ID the model and/or give instruction on how to find the model or replace it. It's wired in and works as a doorbell

Zooz leak sensor compatibility with IQ4 panel

This seems like a great deal for 10 sensors from a reputable company. Reading on the website it seems that they might not be compatible with theIQ4 panel. Google AI doesn’t think they are either. Is this the correct info? It seems that it’s difficult to find an affordable compatible sensor. If I want to cover all toilets, vanities, water heater, fridge water line, washing machine I need at least 9 sensors so it gets pricey.

Slow doorbell connection

I have the ADC-VDB770 and it slow to connect and doesn't always capture motion/people at the door. The signal ranges typically around 73%. Maybe the unit is faulty?

Allarme Sector alarm

Post image
0 Upvotes

Buonasera,

Manufacturer here. Looking for honest feedback on our sensors,

I'm one of the founders of Versa Wireless — we make wireless security sensors — so I obviously have a horse in this race. Felt like the honest thing was to put that in the first line instead of burying it.

We've built sensors for about 25 years, most of it as the OEM behind brands you'd recognize, and recently started selling under our own name. The thing about being "new" under our own label is that no installer should take our word that the stuff is good.

So rather than run ads at you, I'd rather put them in your hands. We'll send 5 free sensors to working dealers/installers to try on a real job — door/window contacts, shock, and motion, across 319.5 / 345 / 433 MHz and Z-Wave, so they fit Qolsys, Honeywell/Resideo, GE/Interlogix, DSC, and Alarm.com.

All I want back is your honest read — including the bad. If they don't work for you, tell me exactly why; that's how the next revision gets better. No review required, no contract, no sales call.

Interested? There's a form on our site: https://versawireless.com/pages/5-free-sensors

We're always trying to improve our products, so really appreciate any feedback you have.

Thanks, Justin

Help ADC‐V729 Floodlight Camera keeps disconnecting

I've tried everything and my installer has too. They've basically told me they give up, it has to be my network. I factory reset the camera yesterday, got it to connect to my Eero network, and by midnight, it was offline again. I've turned off Eco on my eero network and it is connected to the 2.5 network. I even gave it a port reservation. Any ideas why this would be happening? It's getting 50ish% signal. Is this just too low? Do I really need to get another Eero device closer to it? My phone gets 4 bars at the same point.

Me sentí totalmente estafado.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJvx4fDx5wQ

Issue with circulate function

Had my panel replaced and for some reason my thermostat circulate for the furnace fan changed it’s settings and now stays on for 10-15 mins (that’s fine; perfect actually) but cycles off and on within 5 mins. I’m trying to have 45-60 min gap before the next circulate cycle starts but I can’t figure it out.

The worst part is I can’t even adjust it myself for some reason and I have to call them to adjust it for me. Any tips or advice would be awesome.

Thank you!

Download entire SD card?

Hello, Is there an easy way to download an entire sd card from the ADC website? I just realized that my installer used 128GB sd cards in our ADC cameras which is only about a week and a half of footage -- that doesn't work for my situation. I am not currently onsite to switch to a bigger card and would like to grab what's on there now. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks much.

DSC PowerSeries PC1864: Replace failed 433 MHz sensor or upgrade entire system?

I have a DSC PowerSeries PC1864 alarm system with older 433 MHz wireless sensors. The system itself works perfectly, but one wireless door/window contact recently failed.

The failed sensor is an older DSC Z823/EV-DW4975-style "vanishing" sensor. I replaced the CR2032 battery, but the panel still reports a Zone Fault. After opening the sensor, I found corrosion around the battery contacts, so I think the sensor itself has failed.

My alarm company told me the PowerSeries line was discontinued, that replacement wireless sensors are no longer available, and proposed a $1,500 upgrade to a DSC Neo system (new panel, keypads, receiver, etc.).

I've found what appears to be a compatible replacement sensor (Safetymind DW4975-433), which is advertised as a replacement for the DSC EV-DW4975 and compatible with older DSC 433 MHz systems.

A few questions:

  • Is anyone still maintaining a DSC PowerSeries PC1864 system in 2026?
  • Have you successfully used any replacement sensors such as the DW4975-433 or other compatible 433 MHz contacts?
  • Are there other compatible sensors I should be looking for?
  • Has anyone enrolled replacement sensors themselves, and if so, how did you get around not having the installer code?
  • If your alarm company wouldn't provide the installer code, what was your solution?

The rest of the system is working perfectly, so I'm trying to determine whether replacing a single failed sensor is realistic, or if most people in this situation end up upgrading the entire system.

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.
