Venting Self image

Upvotes

My self image over the last few years hasn’t been great at all, it doesn’t help that I was overweight. But I have been working on myself and am now considered “healthy” and I feel more confident than ever. However this was all reset when I asked one of my friends who’s a girl if I look better now or 5 years ago and she straight up said “you look better 5 years ago because you look fat now” and I feel like it’s reset my brain back to how it was. I’m taller yet I weigh less now but somehow I look more fat???? I don’t understand and tbh it’s just really hurt me but I don’t think my friend realised this as they just moved on from the conversation. How do you keep up your self image in your head because when I look in that mirror now i see the same overweight person I was years ago. How do you get passed that?

Advice Anyone got some advice?

Upvotes

I posted up here a few months ago and some of you helped me, I got back in touch with someone I hadn't talked to in over a year and they were incredibly important to me and I used to love them but I never did anything about it, and now that I'm talking to them again I'm feeling the same way and I can't even do anything about it because she's in a relationship, what do i do? I don't want to be a homewrecker or do anything while she's in a relationship I more so want to know should I move on or wait? I've never truthfully honestly loved someone like this and I don't know what to do

I am so lonely

Hey there, I don't know where else to go and I'm really desperate here. Throwaway account because my bf is on reddit sometimes. I am starving for connection. Like I feel so empty and lonely. My family all sucks, they are all wrapped up in themselves and they are super toxic and don't genuinely care. My boyfriend, I don't even know. He seems so spaced out all the time that he doesn't hear me half the time, he forgets to mention things to me then swears he told me, he just seems to have some portion of his mind elsewhere at all times and never fully present with me. I am struggling to get to a deeper level with him because its like pulling teeth trying to have a conversation deep enough to explore each other. But either way, and I don't have any friends. I spent 6 years with an abuser who didn't let me have friends, before that was 3 years with someone similar. Then from 2020 to April this year I was a really bad alcoholic. Now that I'm on the other side of things, I am so so desperate for a connection with someone. I want a best friend like I had in high school. I want to be someone's best friend. I want to be held of high importance to someone AND feel like I'm important to them. I've tried Discords and subreddits but nobody talks longer than a few messages then they never respond again. I know making friends takes time, but I'm so sad and lonely, especially since he works all the time. Yes I complain about him being spaced out but I know he loves me and I'm important, but I want connection with a friend too. Someone I can talk to about girl stuff that he doesn't care about. Someone to make inside jokes with and tell my funny stories and make awesome memories. I don't know what I'm expecting to get out of this. I'm not looking for pity messages or encouragement or anything like that, I don't know. I guess I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Suicide or self-harm I need a way out

Upvotes

I want to end it, im sick of everything, being this way but still having to function when you literally have no will to live. Its exhausting.

Theres a list of things the people around me think I have:

Autism

Body dysmorphia

ADHD

OCD

bipolar disorder

I just cant. I cant stay around long enough to find out, I need to escape. My only 2 options are mental hospital or committing, and trust me. Im NOT going to the mental hospital.

Im not living. Im existing. Existing for others. Nothing I do is for myself.

Venting I need help with my family.

Hey im 14 im a guy. This morning I woke up to my mom yelling at me about being out of bed. 3 minutes later she yells at me again. Repeats like 2 more times. I decide to get up and take a shower. Because its the morning right? No my dad bangs on the door so hard it breaks open while I'm getting undressed. Thankfully i only had my shirt off. I am super disgusted how I have no sense of privacy in my home. I dont know if this relationship is normal. Nobody hits me often unless it gets really heated. I have a brother who is 15 and is going through the same stuff. He can be a jerk but at least he is relatable to the stuff I go through. And btw this whole fight was about how "selfish and inconsiderate" It was for not feeding the cats when I woke up instantly. Whenever my mom starts crying my dad gets really mad and can enforce stuff that he wouldn't usually do. We tried having a conversation but that was pointless because the topic was stupid. Later they blamed it on me being a teenager, and wouldn't get down to the point. Things like this happen 3 or 4 times a week over the dumbest things ever. I just need some reassurance that this isn't or is a normal relationship with my parents. Thank you for reading.

Venting What's wrong with me

Hi.

Without going into too much detail, I’ve been through a lot over the past 10 years that I probably haven’t been able to come to terms with.

I’m constantly trying to become a better person—someone I can be proud of, someone I can look at in the mirror without feeling ashamed of myself. I feel miserable in a way, but even I don’t understand why. Maybe it’s because I can’t seem to find my place in today’s society, but it’s eating me up from the inside, I tell myself. Damn it, i’m an adult, I’m over 25, and i still haven’t accomplished anything? Am i useless at everything? I fail at everything i try, and i struggle, really struggle, to make a living, to trust others, and also to love myself.

I’m not going to give a suicidal speech, to be honest, I don’t have the courage for that anyway. And it’s not part of my principles (my outlook on life). But I can still see that there’s something wrong with my behavior. I’m afraid of people; there are days when I eat until I feel sick, and others when I sleep all day. If I find a job, I stick with it for a while but then lose interest, and if I force myself to keep going, sooner or later I get comments about my behavior. (Don’t talk much, eat alone during breaks, avoid conversations, work slowly, etc.)

I just can’t do it, no, really, i just can’t. Ever since I was little, I’ve always been on the sidelines. There’s a bond of trust with people that’s gradually been broken through my experiences.

To be honest, for example, I couldn’t talk about this directly with people face-to-face. I’d feel uncomfortable, exposed, as if I were laid bare. I’d feel even more ridiculous.

I’m writing this to you, but I don’t even think things would get better, since I’ve been like this since I was little, and it’s gotten worse over time.

What’s strange is that when i get interested in something, like writing, for example, i put a tremendous amount of pressure on myself. Like: “You’re old now; if you want to accomplish something, do it right! Don’t waste any time!”

If I play video games for even just an hour, for example, I immediately start feeling this constant sense of guilt. “Well then? Weren’t you supposed to be writing? Aren’t you doing it anymore? Don’t you have confidence in yourself? Don’t you feel like it? Just do it.”

Except that this guilt is excessive; this pressure makes me do less than usual. I put enormous pressure on myself, even for ridiculous things.

Advice Old or new school?

Hiiii ;) , Im 15 , and im looking for some advice about a situation im dealing with

Right now im not in school because i decided to take a gap year, myparents want me to go back this year and i dont have a problem with returning to school

The problem is that i rlly dont want to go back to my old school, somme things happened there that may not seem very serious to other people but they affected me enough that i dont feel comfortable going back

I suggested looking for a different school and my parents agree , we looked at several options but there was only one school that they rlly like and were willing to pay for

To be accepted i had to attend an interview with one of the teachers along with my parents, During the interview, i didnt notice anything unusual, however, afterward my parents told me they felt very uncomfortable with the teacher, they said he touched my hands and my back several times and that some of the things he said to me sounded inappropriate or suggestive, i honestly didnt notice those things myself but my parents were concerned enough that they no longer trust that school

Now Ive been given two choices, first is to return to my old school where i would be placed a grade lower than i would have been meaning i wouldnt be with my old classmates anymore, the second is to attend the new school even though my parents have serious concerns about the teacher they met during the interview

This situation might seem like an obvious choice to some people, but it really isnt for me, i feel confused, and Id genuinely appreciate hearing other people’s opinions or advice on what they would do in my situation

Lost most of my friends after my dad passed, now I'm drowning in a job search I lied to everyone about

My dad passed away in fall 2024. I don't have any siblings, so my mom is really the only person I can talk to, and while she loves me and feels for me, there are reasons she just can't be the person I need right now. In the time since, I lost most of my core friend group from college. The few I've kept, I still love, but distance has made us not as close anymore.

On top of that, I've been recruiting full time for AI and startup roles since around March, so almost five months now (as i was traveling post - grad / living and working abroad after graduating in april 2025). I'm not technical, I have a business background, but these companies test for it anyway, so every process means learning a whole new product, doing a case study, prepping for technical interviews, on top of everything else. I've gotten four interview processes to a pretty late stage, two of them to the actual final round, and still no offer. Each process eats up close to a month, so it's felt like this endless loop of hoping and then starting over.

I've told everyone in my life that I already have a job. I haven't corrected that because I feel so ashamed and embarrassed, and I know there would be judgment. People remember the internships I used to have and I can already hear the "what happened to her, why did she just fall off like this." So instead I've just been quietly waiting until I have something real to tell people.

I've even hired coaches to help with this process like on leland platform, ones that help with recruitment for tech companies and have worked at places like Meta and Google. Somewhere in the middle of all this I got into an argument with one friend that ended with me ending the friendship, and another argument with a former friend after hearing things they'd said about me. Looking back I know I wouldn't have reacted that way if I had a job and felt stable. I don't feel like myself.

Every morning I wake up with this heaviness and dread before I've even opened my eyes. I know I'm supposedly getting good opportunities, top companies, late rounds, and I know I should feel grateful for that. But mostly I just feel so alone in it.

I just want to know what to do or how to even try to get to a better place. All I keep thinking if if i had a job i loved it would be fine but i don't know how to do well mentally otherwise. and i feel like i've exhausted my options.

things have just been so rough and i feel my mental state getting worse everyday.

Advice Anyone else has personality issues?

I haven’t seen anyone to have them. I want this to be short so yeah. Basically sometimes I will put a cool personality in front of others, but when I come home and imagine myself with this personality, it just doesn’t suit me at all, because it’s not me and because I always used to be the other me. It’s confusing but overall I’m stuck between the old (real) me and the new me. Did anyone face the same situation?

Advice I got kicked out and don’t know what to do.

I [18F] got kicked out by my Father [50M] on July 16. Both my father and I are diagnosed with Autism ADHD and Depression. I’m currently unemployed but am actively looking for a job.

I’d been living with him for around 18 months and we’d been fighting off and on a lot over the previous weeks, mostly about small things like chores. Fights with him usually end with him making some type of remark about how I’m not acting as grateful to him anymore as I used to when he let me move in with him after running away/moving out of my mother’s house. (She’s abusive and my parents are divorced)

Recently he’s also been saying a lot of things about women being evil, talking about how all they want is to manipulate men and ruin their lives. And that women use their feminine privilege to get everything they want and that feminism means women want to eradicate all men, he would usually end these speeches with a comment about how I’m the worst of all the women because I try to change him. This is generally unusual behaviour for my dad, he is usually a kind and calm person.

The day he kicked me out we had a small fight. I had called out to him to get his attention because I wanted to ask if he’d prefer me to bake pie or muffins. (We’d gotten more blueberries than we’d be able to eat so I thought I’d bake and freeze some treats for later) he yelled at me that I was being lazy and making problems for him and that I am an entitled brat. I snapped and called him a whiny cunt. (I should not have done this, I way overreacted and I really regret saying it). In response he told me to take my stuff and find somewhere else to live.

I packed a small bag and have since been staying with a friend. I saw my dad again for the first time yesterday (we had an appointment doing intake for a social program for neural divergent youth meant to help build life skills.) he seemed almost proud as he told the facilitators that he’d kicked me out. He left a few minutes after I explained the situation to them. They gave me a bag of some shelf stable food items and a few things like shampoo and sunscreen.

Right now I’m couch surfing at my friend’s house, I don’t know how long it will last but at least I’m not on the street. If anyone has advice I’d be grateful.

Advice Help me with something

Hey so i have been struggling with something that i’ve been referring to as psychosis for about two years now. It started getting a little more serious since last year, but its like nothing more than hearing voices and seeing things. But about a month ago uh i don’t remember much from it but i cleaned my entire room, removed all my posters and took basically everything out of sight. To this day i still cant find some items, because i usually have a place for everything. And it really freaks me out because apparently i also went around telling people “hi im (insert my name)” which i have absolutely no memory of doing. I tried talking to my psychiatrist i had at the time for my autism diagnosis, but they just brushed it off as nothing. I wanna know if this really is psychosis and that i’m not self diagnosing or labeling myself with something i dont have

i’m starting to hate/dislike my family.

I (20F) have been having a bit of an crisis lately when it comes to my feelings and thoughts about my family.

I grew up in a big family where all of us lived together and it seemed like there was never a calm moment in the house. I decided to go to college out of state and I’ve noticed that my desire to come back home for school breaks is decreasing significantly. It’s currently summer break but right before I came back to my parents house I had a whole panic attack and freaked out over the thought of me being back at the house. Now that I’m back each day it seems like I’m starting to view everyone differently and not in a good way. All of my siblings seem and feel off to me and my parents I can’t even really enjoy being around them as much anymore. My thoughts on everyone and their behaviors have shifted to the point where all I can do is just look at everyone and it’s hard for me to be in conversation with them for long.

This has been really difficult and confusing for me because I used to adore and love my family so much but now it seems like I can only see everyone’s flaws and they just seem so different.

Please let me know if anyone has felt something similar to this and what did you do? Any advice is appreciated!

Sorry if it doesn’t fully make sense its hard for me to explain.
