Question Debating starting a small pet business.

Hi all. Just a quick question for the group. I’m debating trying to start my own small business making diy items for cage set up for hamsters, mice ect.

Just wondering if this is something people would actually spend money on so looking for some feedback here so I can start making up some designs.

Here’s some things I made for my fairy woodland themed hamster cage.

Any ideas on themes you’d like to see/be interested in?

Of course everything is made from hamster safe materials and supplies.

Question Why isn’t my hamster running on his wheel?

I got my hamster back in late march, he is a bit skittish but I honestly think it’s just him (he’s a Russian dwarf) and he hasn’t been using his wheel very much. I have made sure he is able to reach it, made sure he knows how to use it, it is 8 inches and perfect size for him too. I don’t know what’s making him not want to use it as much

Rainbow Bridge My little guy almost drowned

I was looking through old pictures of Cecil today and I remembered the time he almost drowned a few months ago and I still get mad thinking about it. Cecil was my hamster and he was literally the best. He would run to the side of his cage when I came over because he knew I had treats. He was just a little guy. A few months ago I was trying to clean him because he had some stuff on his fur.I know people are probably gonna say you aren’t supposed to give hamsters baths but I didn’t know that at the time. I was just trying to help him. My sister was in my room and she started messing with me like she always does. She took Cecil and put him under the water. I was yelling at her to stop and trying to get him back but she held him there for like 15 seconds. It doesn’t sound like a long time but when you’re watching your hamster underwater it feels like forever.

I grabbed him and dried him off and he was okay, but he was really scared. Then my sister went and told my mom that I was the one who tried to drown him. I was so confused because she literally watched it happen. My mom didn’t believe me at all. She just started yelling and saying I was horrible and that I shouldn’t have pets and that it was a mistake to get me Cecil. Then she smashed my iPad and threw my PC out the window because she was angry. I still don’t even understand why my stuff got destroyed when my sister was the one who did it. Cecil ended up being ok. He lived for a while after that and I always checked on him because I was scared something would happen again. I still miss him. The worst part is I feel like nobody believed me. Everyone acted like I was some kind of monster when I was literally just trying to take care of my hamster. My sister still jokes about it sometimes and it makes me mad because it wasn’t funny. Anyway I just wanted to post this because I was looking at pictures of him and remembered my little guy.

Please don’t ask how Cecil died. I don’t want to even think about it. That’s a story for another day. Or maybe my sister can tell it because it’s her fault. And she gets to keep the pencil sharpener but my iPad and PC were destroyed for no reason

Question Is my playpen ok?

I made this yesterday for my 2.5 year old hamster. The only reason I used a towel was because I have a dodgy drain and I don't want him to sit in it or chew on the string, also I wanted to make sure everything was 1000% dry. I used a ceramic bowl with Niteangel sand and just some usual things from his enclosure so it feels familiar in a bigger area where he can run.

I'd love feedback but please keep it kind :)

When I was raising my hamsters, I often thought,

"Someday, I'll miss these ordinary days. Someday, I'll miss these little hamsters. Right now, I probably don't realize how precious these moments are."

Now I live alone in the empty space they left behind, and I can no longer remember how I first held them in my hands.

Question Keeping hamster healthy after another passes

Post image
19 Upvotes

I unfortunately just had one of my hamsters pass tonight. He was sharing a room (not cage) with my other hamster. There’s an ammonia smell in the cage (which I’m actively cleaning in a separate room), but is there anything else I need to do to keep my current hamster safe/healthy? Everything from the previous hamster has been removed from the room including the enclosure and all bedding.
❤️advice appreciated

I’m happy to have given him all I can
He was always so adventurous, loved his Whimzee’s, bamboo chews, and all the fun substrates he could dig and forage in ❤️
I’ll miss him dearly, but I’m happy I made the decision to take him in (knowing his previously abusive and rough medical history), and give him an amazing year with me.
Although bittersweet, he went peacefully and cuddled up with his favorite treats, and the crocodile whimzee he’s been working on these past few months

🐹 Love you so much Mochi ❤️

Question hamster suddenly more destructive than usual

Post image
16 Upvotes

my female hamster has recently being acting way more destructive than normal. chewing up hides and other stuff that she previously never touches and making new burrows every day when she has only ever stuck to making one that she uses as her main spot. this is quite a big change in her behavior and im a bit concerned.

i know her enclosure is due for some bedding changing and i am a bit late on that due to not having enough bedding left atm. could that be it? or maybe this new flower mix i gave her yesterday is what is making her act up??

Bedding and Substrates Toilet paper

Is charmin ultra soft unscented safe for hamsters? I've heard toilet paper is a good substrate but I read charmin is bleached so I wondered if that is a concern. Any opinions would be great.

Adorable Hammy Feeling guilty and nervous about leaving

Im leaving for a trip and I am extremely anxious. My girl Mochi is almost 2 and has been having issues with her skin again (ever since i adopted her from a shelter her hair falls out and her skin gets dry patches. Its closely monitored by a vet) and my boy Laddu has three legs and often blocks his water sources (he is a very special boy. I love him but he has zero survival instincts) I have a babysitter, my sister, who will stay with them but I just get nervous even if its 4 days. Does anyone else have an extreme fear of something going wrong? A pic of Mochi for the ham tax.

First Time Owner New Hamster Owner

Hi everyone! I adopted a Syrian female hamster over the weekend. She stole my heart just staring at me from her cage. I was buying gerbil food and new bedding. So yes, impulse hamster purchase as she gave me her massive eyes. Lmao. Her name is Muffin, she is total chunk.

I want her happy and comfortable. I want to ensure she lives a long happy life. Any youtubers you recommend for bonding and cage setup? Can they be trained?

I've seen so many people hanging out with their hamsters. Do they not run off? I'm excited and nervous. I think she's a little smitten, she runs out to greet me and takes her treats gently. I only handle her 10min tops, for now, and then talk a lot to her. I don't want to stress her out handling her for too long this early. Any advice is much appreciated.

Question I may be taking in a pregnant Syrian, any suggestions on care?

I’ve had hamsters all my life, and have raised a litter of mice before, but don’t know much about hamster pregnancies. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If the girl in question is pregnant it will also be risky due to her young age, so she will definitely need more care than the normal hamster pregnancy. I will be doing a bunch of research but in the meantime I figured Reddit could help me out a bit too!

Question She's a year old, does he look like hyper pigmentation around her anus?

Thumbnail

I think it's the anus lol, but it's black around there. She is almost a year old, the vet saw her not long ago for something else and since it was the first visit she did look down there to make sure she is a female but didn't say anything about this.

This was so hard to take, so sorry

General statement - not looking for medical advice, just want to hear opinions!

Question What size of hamster wheel should I choose?

I wanna get my hamster a new wheel, he’s a Syrian hamster and kinda chunky. I wonder if 10 inch is enough. Like niteangel medium size.
