20 июля,мой хомяк впал в спячку.Вечером мы подумали что он погиб.Хотя я даже не проверил сердцебиение.Почитав в интеренете,понял что они могут впадать в спячку.Как раз в будние у нас было +33-+35,а на выходных (18-19 июля)+22-+25.Может ли это быть просто спячкой?

I’m the guy who accidentally got his hands on 13 hamsters. I asked my boss (I work in a secondary schoo/junior high) if she knows anyone who would be interested in a hamster, she gave me the phone number of an old lady who is an emotional therapist and used small animals, apparently she doesn’t have hamsters and would like to grab a few (6-8), she then plans on training them and use those who succeed the training for her therapy sessions, the others may become snake food… Not sure that’s the best place for them hamsters, but so far, every other person who called about the “hamsters for adoption posts” was terrified by the fact those hamsters are dwarfs and not Syrians.

Would like to hear your opinion on the lady. Thank you.

Also there’s a hamster, with a lump on her belly, I think it’s nipple cancer or some infection of sorts, and I was wondering what to do about it, get her to the VMD?

I got a hamster three days ago from PetCo. She is a female dwarf hamster. I have a large cage for her, a large wheel, multiple hides, sprays, forage, and nesting material. Also food and water obviously. I know she is new but she always hides. Usually at night she will run on her wheel but anytime i move or do anything she freezes and runs and hides. Is this normal because she is a new hamster or am i doing something wrong? I just want her to be happy 🥹.

As title says, how do I fix this?? 😭

Im leaving for a trip and I am extremely anxious. My girl Mochi is almost 2 and has been having issues with her skin again (ever since i adopted her from a shelter her hair falls out and her skin gets dry patches. Its closely monitored by a vet) and my boy Laddu has three legs and often blocks his water sources (he is a very special boy. I love him but he has zero survival instincts) I have a babysitter, my sister, who will stay with them but I just get nervous even if its 4 days. Does anyone else have an extreme fear of something going wrong? A pic of Mochi for the ham tax.

Hey, just looking for some advice, Alba is quite a nervous hammy that doesnt like being held, but also constantly trying to escape, ive got a new cage, multiple hides and sand baths, underground maze and a good change in height.

What am I missing?

It happened before so I changed his bedding to different brand and his hair grew back but now it started again

I made a post yesterday asking if I should be worried because my new hamster wasn’t hiding at all (and was told that I probably shouldn’t). Well, his zero-survival instinct, idgaf mentality is still going strong 😂 this is how I just found I’m sleeping.

I checked if he was actually sleeping and not dead, he opened his eyes, took a stretch, and went straight back to sleep the same way.

Disclaimer: he has plenty of new houses, tunnels and thick paper bedding to burrow. He just chooses not to use any of it.

About a month ago, my hamster got like 700 likes on Reddit. I tried to edit that post, but it wouldn’t let me. Recently on a Wednesday night we were playing with our hamster her name is marshmallow. We noticed that she was bleeding the slightest amount by her tail. We put her back and we’re trying to be gentle with her. We looked around the cage and did not see no more blood. The next day, I decided to take the cage apart to try to figure out if she was still bleeding or if she got hurt. She had not been bleeding since that small amount of blood that Wednesday night. When I took the cage apart on Thursday night I had noticed she started bleeding suddenly again. I called around, but there was no exotic vets available in the emergency room so the next day I got up at seven and started calling around again. I was not able to find a local exotic vet so we ended up driving three hours to Pullman Washington for their exotics team at Washington State University. When we reached the university, she was still in good spirits, moving around a lot eating her food and drinking her water. But she had started bleeding really heavy suddenly. They said they were gonna have to sedate her to be able to check her stomach to see why she was bleeding. They decided that she either had a tumor, an injury or an ovarian cancer, which is common in hamsters. After sedating her, they realize she did have ovarian cancer. Marshmallow had to go through emergency surgery and be neutered. They said she was full of a lot of blood in her organ. After that, she recovered and she came home this Monday. The vet said usually with hamsters the cancer sticks to that organ it’s affecting. Currently she is taking her medicine in Baby food. Which she absolutely loves. The vet did let me know while she was there. If there would’ve been any complications where she needed blood she was way too large to be able to get a blood transfer from another hamster because she was so large. Said it was largest hamster she’s ever saw not just size but bone structure. So that is the story of my hamster surviving cancer.

So i got this baby a week ago and idek what breed he is. Someone help pls! And if im being honest, idk the gender either.

So I had this raffia planter that I was going to put some herbs in but Pippi stole it from me. Now it’s her go-to when she’s playing on my bed while I read! Little thief! And not to worry: that pillbox is for her daily treats!

So I'm not sure if this is the right place. I've been in contact with rescues as well. I adopted a hamster that I did not know was pregnant. She had the babies and they are 8 weeks old. I have 7 left that I need to re-home and I'm trying to do the right thing by them. I am located in Rockford, IL.

Hello!! I'm so so so sorry for spamming for these past days but i just keep stressing out. I'm making Glenn's bincage bigger, currently it's 74x48x34 cm and I'm gonna connect it to another bincage with a tunnel making it basically 148x48x34 cm and i wanted to ask what i can find in the nature to add to his enclosure i already added few rocks (There aren't any sprays near me in the shops) and he already has safe chew sticks. I have had my hamster for almost a year now. I just recently upgraded her cage to the pawhut brand cage as I wanted her to have way more room. Since upgrading she has been chewing on the wood, I understand they chew to keep their teeth filed, but it’s been keeping me up since I got the cage. She has plenty of chew toys and enrichment but still decides to chew the cage. I have tried everything to make it stop, I even put metal corners in, she still chews it. Does anyone know what more I can do, I have not slept in days and it keeps my partner up as well.

Hello everyone, I'm here because I need some advice. I bought my hamster (a male russian hamster) almost a month ago. He should be 3-4 months old.

I gave him an enclosure 50x100 cm, with 15 cm of litter made of unscented dust-free wood chips, after two cages not big enough (unfortunately i knew late that cages are not good). I used lemon scented litter before because i didn't know about the risks.

I've noticed in general he's not very active. He's a peaky eater, he doesn't like mealworms (even if i wet them), cucumber, he eats carrots, zucchini and some apple only, for now. He's used to the classic seed mix but i switched to something healthier, like pellets nutritionally complete. Sometimes i give him the seed mix but not everyday.

I know they are crepuscular, but sometimes it's past 1:00 a.m and he's not out yet. In this new enclosure he stays all the time in a wooden box for hamsters (like a micro labyrinth inside) and he rarely comes out. I don't know if he's lethargic because he's not happy or ill, if he's just an introvert, if he just likes a lot this box, or if he's just exhausted because he changed two cages and now a new enclosure in less than a month since he arrived here. I see he eats and he uses his sand bath. The enclosure for now has not so many details: this box, his wheel, some cartoon tubes, toilet paper, food sprinkled to make him forage, some toys, his sand bowl, some places to hide in.

He's very sweet by the way. Now it's morning, i know i shouldn't do that but i was too worried because i didn't see him since the other day, so i opened his wooden box and i gently grabbed him to see if he's injured or other stuff. He was clearly pissed off and bite me but not aggressively, just telling me I was bothering him. He's not very cuddly (i totally respect that) but he's truly a gentleman lol.

Do the wooden hides need to go on platforms too? The bottoms are open I assume to make a nest in but I wasn’t sure if it should sit on the paper bedding or a platform? I am putting his sand bath and heavier items on platforms. He does have one hide that gets buried so I can use the top of that as a platform maybe for the water

He’s in a temp cage. Mine just got delivered and I need to put it together. We got the bucatstate 3.0 for a Syrian.
I got a bunch of stuff and I’ll see how much I can fit

Also got some of those little fence dividers to use for some of the substrates. They are only like 6” tall so those I guess just get buried part of the way I wanted to use it for one corner to separate off the moss even though it’ll end up everywhere once he redecorates lol

Any ideas you throw at me I’m grateful for.

I got a ton of bedding so it’ll be deep

I came home from work tonight (about 10:30pm) and didn’t notice my sweet girl hanging out waiting for me. This isn’t something that she does every night, but it is more common than not that she will be sitting on one of her platforms, waiting for me to come home and feed her. When I saw she wasn’t out of her burrow, I went about the usual routine of changing her water and sprinkling some food around her enclosure. Usually the sound of her food mix will motivate her out of her tunnel, but again, I saw no sign of her. Thinking the worse, I began lightly digging into her burrow, assuming that would at least annoy her enough to see some motion. Nothing. I found her to be what looked like sleeping, except she didn’t appear to be breathing. I picked her up, expecting her to be stiff (due to rigor mortis, and similar to what I experienced with my guinea pigs when I was younger), however, her eyes are closed, and her body is still squishy, as if she is just in a deep, deep sleep. I know hamsters can go into a hibernation like state, but it hasn’t been below 70° F in the room her enclosure is in. On the off chance she might still be alive, she is currently in an open box in her enclosure and has been for almost three hours now. Her body is still squishy and shows no signs of rigor mortis, but as far as I can tell she isn’t breathing.
Is there anyway I could be wrong and she is in some sort of hibernation like state? Or am I just grieving?
TLDR; I came home and seemingly found my hamster had passed away. However, when moving her I noticed her body was more floppy, instead of stiff. Not sure if I am just grieving, or if she might be in a hibernation like state?
