I am putting up a wall of polycarbonate panel for privacy reason (and to protect against rain/snow) that will be moved unto the outer side

Unfortunately, I miscalculated the framing which is the reason there is offset from the channeling to the frame (2x3 studs)

Due to this situation each panel is held on 2 sides by screws; allowing expansion via the opposite ends unto the channels.

My concern is mainly any possibility of wind causing panels to "bend" and possibly removing them from channels....?

The channels are essentially sandwiched between drilled down panels so it seems the only way a slip could happen is if wind blows strong enough to bend the non drilled corner of a panel.

Alternatively, could reinforce the spaces between the studs with a thin metal or wood strip in the back.

I'm somewhat new to reddit, so please forgive any crossed norms on post.

For context: I have many years experience in the construction/remolding/roofing area and live on the OH/IN line about an hour from Ciny. I have around 70 high quality double pane windows I purchased from someone taking down a professionally installed greenhouse from another house.

My plan:

Greenhouse addition with a footprint of 40x13'. The roof span will be 13' and need to (unfortunately) have a 2/12 pitch due to the height of the roof overhang on the house and the need for a useable door exiting the greenhouse. I'd rather have a 4/12, but I'd be crawling out of the greenhouse with that pitch.

I am collecting old barn wood to make the bulk of the framing for both looks and (hopefully) less swelling due to humidity.

My two questions:

1: Will 80+ year old oak be resistant "enough" to the humidity cycle of a greenhouse? I'd rather not go the treated lumber route if possible and Cypress would cost too much, Cedar to fragile for framing (in my experience).

2: I want to use these panels on the roof as well. I have a way to reasonable water seal the panels left to right, sitting in/on the rafters (barn oak). My question is to the experts here: how best should I seal the panels top to bottom? I suppose I could make them lay similar to clay roof tiles using chiseled notches in the rafters and silicone, but I would rather them all be on the same plane if possible. It doesn't feel right to just silicone them end to end, but putting in a cross piece of wood would make a lip for water to sit in.

I can't really find any good info online for this particular problem. All panel glass roofs I've seen are put in with specified metal frames and all wood rafter setups are using one continuous long piece of glass.

Has anyone ever used a bug bomb in their greenhouse? I’ve got a mealybug and scale outbreak and am losing the battle. My greenhouse is only about 15x12x12 and may be too small. I hate to use something so heavy duty but I don’t want to lose over a hundred plants. 90% of what I have are cacti and succulents.

Exhaust fan
No intake fan, just two windows opposite side of exhaust fan.

Misting system, 1mins/1hr, 9am-6pm

I am having issues with the temps rising to high levels (ranging from 90s-mid 100's. The misting system helps cool it down, but after 10mins the temps are rising again. What can I do to help lower the temperatures and keep them consistent?

Additionally, due to the high heat, or perhaps other factors, the humidity levels during peak day dip to lower 40's. Again, the misting system raises the humidity, but once it dries up between cycles, the humidity dips. What can I do to help keep a consistent humidity level?

Florida has MANY tropical greenhouses, so I know that keeping a greenhouse in Florida is a possible thing, but I just need to figure out how to maintain the temperature and humidity in order for this to be a success.

So I always have been wanting to build a greenhouse for the girls, a loving nickname for my special lady friends that I can legally grow here in southern Oregon but enough about them.

We tried to reuse materials around the property, we got 60 acres, and there were a lot of old windows, doors, tin panels, etc. laying around.

It's a 12' x 14' greenhouse. We spent 300 bucks at Home Depot for the suntuf panels (east facing wall) and some lumber and another 170 for the roof panels found on Marketplace.

The neighbor, brother Brad we'll call him had a pallet of old windows (matching unlike the ones I had lying around) and he said he was going to use them to build a greenhouse and they've been sitting there for 10 years...brother Brad needed some help getting his car running and my brother IS a mechanic so a lil barter and the pallet was mine.

The windows came out of a Sears Robuck catalog from back in the day, fun fact - Sears sold houses from 1908 - 1942! So the newest the windows could be would be 84 years old! Anyhoo, I ended up incorporating 18 of the windows into the design, and this is the first week's progress

I have a china cabinet with a mirror backing and I'd like to turn it into a greenhouse with a grow light but this cabinet belonged to a family member that passed and I can't stand the thought of having any damage at all. From what I looked at on YouTube I was planning on revarnishing it with marine varnish and then caulking the inside where the glass sides and mirror are put together with the wood as well as a few vent holes in the top, but i would really love some tried and true tips from people who have done this and successfully kept it high humidity, heat, and rays with no damage.

My husband and I have the opportunity to build a green house approximately 15 ft x 30ft in the south Florida area. We have some ideas but I would love to get some ideas from the group! 😀 We garden outside only in VA, so we're familiar with gardening.

I would like to damage some squirrels. When they discovered that the black sunflower seed was stored in the greenhouse, they would dart in during the day while the doors were open bc it was super hot. And I’d find them IN the 50# bag. So I moved all the seed into commercial totes with lids. That they chewed thru in one day. Then I discovered that at night they were chewing at the door trying to get in. So the husband put a board and a big cement brick in front of of the doors and those dirty tree weasels tried to chew in from the roof- doing a lot of damage to the redwood. I’ll add, where they did the damage? I can’t replace the wood easily as it’s part of a panel that holds up the roof of clear glass-like panels. It’s bad. I usually love the squirrels and do not wish to kill them. But they can’t wreck the greenhouse either. All sunflower seeds were jettisoned to the city compost (sorry songbirds) and I sprayed the greenhouse with a cayenne and dawn mix with my garden sprayer. Anything else I should do (short of a time-machine to not have ever introduced the sunflower seed to my life)? I’m so frustrated, mostly with myself.

Howdy yall, sorry if this post doesn’t belong here but I could use a little help. my buddy and I are building a greenhouse that didn’t come with any instructions. We have no idea what any of this hardware is for. Anyone have any experience with this design? So far all we know is that the shorter beams are for staking into the ground and curved beams conjoin to make the ribs. Not pictured are the spinal beams and the self tapping screws. Hi, I’ve recently stumbled upon an abandoned indoor greenhouse close to my job. I don’t believe it is temperature controlled, however the humidity is not terrible inside. There are a lot of abandoned succulents and snake plants growing very well in there. It is also very well lit. I’ve included some pictures of the plants growing there already, and maybe this could give some context to the environment the greenhouse is promoting.

I would love to plant some vegetables and fruits in there, and am wondering what would be best to grow. I have greenhouse training thanks to my job, but have never grown produce outside of a patio garden. I am worried about it being indoors, as there are no pollinators.

If anyone has any advice/tips it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

So we got N. californicus for the spider mites that just took hold. We're setting up a misting system to run on hot days. Most of the windows open too. Now we're adding Anystis. Does anyone here have experience with Anystis keeping scales at bay? I hope they will so I don't have to go all out and get the little ladybugs, I think they might be harder to keep around.

Working on a small passive solar greenhouse build. Design calls for a polycarbonate exterior roof over 2x6 rafters and then an interior polycarbonate ceiling. Optimal idea is an exterior twin wall poly that provides a measurable insulative value (R-1.5ish) and then the 5.5" sealed rafter air gap that adds another R-2ish insulative value for a total of around R-3/4 for an efficient heat retention design. Typical design would be plastic sheathing or single wall poly for the interior ceiling with the twin wall on the exterior, keeping the larger air mass on the warmer side thus slowing heat transfer through the roof. Already did the calculations and doubling up on twin wall for both layers cuts the light transmission below optimal threshold, so its not an option.

*The predicament*

I scored a bunch of twin wall poly secondhand for next to nothing (literally almost free, and this stuff is pricey new) that was never used outdoors. Due to secondhand nature of it and that its original use was indoors, I cannot guarantee it is UV stable poly, thus suitable for the exterior sheathing. The easiest solution would be to use the twin wall for the interior ceiling and then a ribbed, UV stable single wall poly for the exterior roof. Question is, with the larger air gap now on the exterior vs interior, how much does this hurt the insulative efficiency of the design?

Its been a minute since I've done any heat transfer calculations (aerospace engineer here) and I cannot find my book for thermal tables. Curious on input from some others who may understand what im getting at.

Hi! I just recently got a greenhouse this spring, it’s about 6ftx8ft, and here in England we’re currently being plagued with a heatwave of around 30°C. The past couple of days inside my greenhouse has reached staggering temperatures I’m talking over the max of 32°C and it’s damaged my plants (especially my tomatoes) I’m hoping and praying they still make it but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the end for them! I’ve put a 1m x 4m 50% shade cloth over the greenhouse (debating getting another one to really cover my bases) and a large garden umbrella to block out some more sun whilst it’s so hot, to try and cool it down but it doesn’t seem to be enough yet. I’m definitely getting some fans asap but I’m unsure of what exactly I’d need. We don’t usually get heat like this very often so I was unsure initially if I’d need them but evidently I do. I’m not in a position currently to be spending a huge amount on equipment so would these fans work?? And where is the most effective placement for them?? (If it’s any help my greenhouse has a singular sliding door at the front and a single window on the left hand side of the roof, both of which are being kept open to cool it down)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I’m still just getting started (I’ve done some gardening before when I was younger but this is my first attempt at a greenhouse).

I bought 21ft pcs thinking less joints the better. After reading the instructions that came with my bender it suggested cutting the 21ft pieces.

My line of thought is if I made a mark on the stationary bender and made sure that the weld seam was always on that mark how could it form a helix?

Cutting in half with only a single swage end is going to create a lot of waste.
