Equipment Got the dreaded notice... Golf trip to whistling straits with no clubs

Post image

Basically, had a week long golf trip planned with a buddy for a year to Whistling Straits and Black Wolf Run - fly out Saturday, first round Sunday, Ship Sticks tells me they have misplaced my bag... Super disappointed, I'm pretty terrible with my clubs so with rentals it will be worse... Oh well, first world problems, thanks for reading

After every drive my buddy would head off into the woods or walk along the rough while I took my second shot. He found 28 balls for me, pretty much paid for the round!

General Discussion High school tryout cheating

I didn’t play highschool golf, so this is my first experience with it.

My daughter had tryouts yesterday. It only ended up being 8 holes due to the heat.

We only had 2 in our group, due to heat 2 of our 4 dropped out. They then decided to drop another girl back with us from group ahead.

This girl then proceeded to never pick up when 9 was supposed to be the max. She hit two into the hazard on a tee box and probably took 16 strokes on a hole and carded double bogey. It would take her 3-4 shots just to get to my daughter’s drives. SEVERELY impacting our pace of play.

She then had the audacity to turn in a lower scorecard than my daughter by 7 damn strokes.

Part of me knows the coaches know. They watched the swings, they probably dropped her back a group for a reason. But seeing that level of blatant cheating to get a leg up over my kid? Doesn’t sit right with me or her for that matter.

Do I say anything? Have my daughter address it directly with the coach? or just let things take care of themselves?

General Discussion If you are a bad golfer who thinks they'll never improve, read this.

I'm a bad golfer if you consider how many hours I've put into this sport since I started playing 5 years ago. I play about five hours a week, play in competitions and still have a WHS of 24.6. I see people on this sub reddit who are much lower handicap than me in under a year and sometimes I think, I'll never get this, I should just quit.

Well today I played Mitcham Golf Club, an 18 hole golf course n in south London. I've only played it once before and that was July '22 when I was relatively new to golf. I shot 48 over par that day. Today I shot 14 over par including 2 birdies. It's the first time I've broken 90 and I smashed it!

Keep going brothers and sisters. Don't give up

General Discussion New to Golf, but somehow managed to play 36 holes with the same ball

Post image

Hit 104 yesterday, and 110 today. Playing today i was more focused on not losing the ball rather than having a good score. Not losing the ball is a sign that my shots are getting better, feels good swinging the club and seeing the ball fly straight.

General Discussion What is the max amount of strokes you take on a hole?

A lof of people I've played with say that the max they take is a double bogey. My typical rule of thumb is double par, max of 6 strokes on a par 3 for example.

This is mainly because when I have a blow-up hole I'm so pissed off that I forget my strokes and so I just write down double par (which I think is fair). People usually don't want to put me down for a quadruple bogey though lol.

Curious to see what everyone does.

General Discussion How do you not worry about your game during destination golf?

I go on vacation and get to play on a nice course next week. The biggest thing I’m trying to mentally check is not worrying about my game, and just enjoy the course itself. I’m kinda stressed about this as the first time I went to a destination course I was focused too much on playing well. Experienced golfers any tips?

General Discussion Made a memorial ball marker for a golfer who recently passed - one side his likeness, one side a dove in flight.

I'm collaborating with a golf club restoration pro who got a request to engrave a photo of 4 friends on a new wedge. One of the four had recently passed from cancer, another is currently going through a tough diagnosis.

While I was helping with the artwork for the wedge, I suggested we throw in a companion ball marker as a tribute to his buddy who passed. That's where this design came from.

Front side is his portrait, back side is his life dates with the dove - Art Poblete, May 10, 1963 - May 26, 2026. 32mm brass, deep engraving with micro texturing, laser black marking and hand finished. No paint fill, just brass and depth so it will patina over time with use on the course.

It's going out with the tribute wedge. Meant a lot to be a small part of it. Forever on the green.

General Discussion Injured myself, started doing 50% swings, didn't lose a ball for 50 holes, and my score was about the same

I lost about 30 yards so I was clubbing up everything and was laying up a lot. The goal was just to get bogeys if I could. It meant I had limited chances at birdies and pars so the score floor was higher but the misses were all in play.

I have to figure out how to channel that after I recover.

General Discussion Shot a 79 yesterday at my home course.

First time ever under 80 and I genuinely stood on the 18th green not knowing what to do with myself. Four years of lessons, YouTube rabbit holes, range sessions where I felt like I was getting worse, and it finally clicked.

The weird part is it wasn't some big swing overhaul that did it. I stopped trying to stripe every iron and just started hitting what I knew would find the fairway. Boring golf basically. Layups I would have been embarrassed to hit two years ago.

Three putts killed me forever and I spent two months doing nothing but 6 footers in my living room. That probably helped more than anything else combined.

The scoring thing people talk about being different from ball striking is real. You can play pretty average and still post a number if you stop bleeding strokes on dumb decisions.

Curious what actually changed the trajectory for other people who went through the same wall. Not looking for a tip list, more just what the moment or the shift was for you specifically. The 70s feel like a completely different game already and I want to know how people eventually cracked that next barrier too.

News / Articles Majesticks GC co-captains Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood pay DP World Tour fines clearing way for DP World Tour return

After both having steadfastly rejected the idea of paying the fines to the DP World Tour - both have now done so.

"Poulter went on to add that a key reason behind his decision was the change in the DP World Tour’s exemption categories last November.

“My exemptions are being burnt year in, year out right now, which is unfortunate because they took the opportunity in November, if you didn’t re-join they would reduce your exemption years year on, year out.

“It’s a shame they did that. It’s a shame they devalued the legends category from 5A to 11A, which isn’t helpful to get in some certain tournaments.”

As for Westwood, he explained: “What it does is gives us options having them paid. When the current financial backers of the tour are talking about pulling out and we’re being indemnified, it just makes sense to get them paid straight away before they do pull out.

“That’s really why we had them paid when we did. But I still don’t agree with the fines because we are being completely treated differently to the people playing on this tour. I think the fines were excessive.”

Lee didn't want to have to dig into his own pocket to pay for them then.
