Basically, had a week long golf trip planned with a buddy for a year to Whistling Straits and Black Wolf Run - fly out Saturday, first round Sunday, Ship Sticks tells me they have misplaced my bag... Super disappointed, I'm pretty terrible with my clubs so with rentals it will be worse... Oh well, first world problems, thanks for reading

I'm a bad golfer if you consider how many hours I've put into this sport since I started playing 5 years ago. I play about five hours a week, play in competitions and still have a WHS of 24.6. I see people on this sub reddit who are much lower handicap than me in under a year and sometimes I think, I'll never get this, I should just quit.

Well today I played Mitcham Golf Club, an 18 hole golf course n in south London. I've only played it once before and that was July '22 when I was relatively new to golf. I shot 48 over par that day. Today I shot 14 over par including 2 birdies. It's the first time I've broken 90 and I smashed it!

A lof of people I've played with say that the max they take is a double bogey. My typical rule of thumb is double par, max of 6 strokes on a par 3 for example.

This is mainly because when I have a blow-up hole I'm so pissed off that I forget my strokes and so I just write down double par (which I think is fair). People usually don't want to put me down for a quadruple bogey though lol.

Curious to see what everyone does.

I didn’t play highschool golf, so this is my first experience with it.

My daughter had tryouts yesterday. It only ended up being 8 holes due to the heat.

We only had 2 in our group, due to heat 2 of our 4 dropped out. They then decided to drop another girl back with us from group ahead.

This girl then proceeded to never pick up when 9 was supposed to be the max. She hit two into the hazard on a tee box and probably took 16 strokes on a hole and carded double bogey. It would take her 3-4 shots just to get to my daughter’s drives. SEVERELY impacting our pace of play.

She then had the audacity to turn in a lower scorecard than my daughter by 7 damn strokes.

Part of me knows the coaches know. They watched the swings, they probably dropped her back a group for a reason. But seeing that level of blatant cheating to get a leg up over my kid? Doesn’t sit right with me or her for that matter.

Do I say anything? Have my daughter address it directly with the coach? or just let things take care of themselves?

I wonder how many golfers they've had in their backyard before they made the decision to just start blastin on sight

After every drive my buddy would head off into the woods or walk along the rough while I took my second shot. He found 28 balls for me, pretty much paid for the round!

After both having steadfastly rejected the idea of paying the fines to the DP World Tour - both have now done so.

“My exemptions are being burnt year in, year out right now, which is unfortunate because they took the opportunity in November, if you didn’t re-join they would reduce your exemption years year on, year out.

“That’s really why we had them paid when we did. But I still don’t agree with the fines because we are being completely treated differently to the people playing on this tour. I think the fines were excessive.”

A clusterfuck to clusters un-fucked

I’m starting lessons this week - looking forward to that. Have a simulator in my house that has helped in some areas and hurt in others.

Anyway, started bogey, bogey yesterday which is about as well as I can do on these first two holes. Then I go 7, 7, 8 and then roll up to a par 3 and hit to ~8-9 inches from 160 yards. Nice fade into an uphill green. Bounced right next to the hole, hit the flag and dropped straight down.

AND, I didn’t two or three putt it!

This is why you stay hooked on a game that can beat you up so bad!

I was having this discussion at work, and wanted to know what everyone thinks.

For me, the absolute perfect day of golf is 60-65°, Overcast with light mist or fog. Looks like it might rain, but doesn't. Maybe my preference is from playing in highschool, which was a fall sport. The last month has been nothing but sun and heat and I am bitter about it

Like the title says I shot 75 on a par 70 course I only played once for a practice round before. I'm really happy with my results. I sliced my HCP nearly in half from an 16.4 to 8.6.

How long will it probably take to get closer to scratch?

My friends say im Sandbagging my HCP because I played 3 tournaments this year which is more than the last 4 years combined.
