I've always wanted to add some sort of "get blasted into the air"-effect when enemies in our game get blown up, SO I DID IT!

In case anyone wanna try blasting these little guys on your own, here's a link to our Steam demo!

im making a hollow knight clone in gd but the sprite sheet is stumping me id like to keep everything in one sprite sheet but if i aligned them all there would be massive space left on the smaller sprites so can godot handle uneven spritesheets? if so how?

selfpromo (games) Navigation Secret in Godot 🧭🗺️

The Navigation Mesh/Region in Godot is great. However, if you only use one giant nav mesh, then its very costly. I found a solution to this issue by stitching together a bunch of tiny nav meshes that together cover the entire map. Performance is 20x better!!! Have you had any good/bad experiences with Godot's built in Nav?

Still 1 week left of the map editor playtest!

The goal is for the player to see the trajectory of levels; the sequence that they select (the runes show the biome). However some connections are unclear until they upgrade their selector, hence the dotted connections.

I will probably add textual UI for clarity later on but this feels toooo satisfying

selfpromo (games) EigenGauge, my Godot 4 hover racer just got its Steam playtest. Looking for a few people to break it

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been building EigenGauge quietly for a while — a hover racer in Godot 4, going for that fast, wall-scraping F-Zero feel rather than something sim-adjacent. The Steam playtest just got approved, and I've hit the point where I can no longer tell what's actually hard versus what I've just gotten good at.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2739190/EigenGauge/

If you play it, the things I'd most like to hear about:

  1. Handling — too loose, too twitchy, or somewhere reasonable?
  2. Camera — press C on keyboard or R1 on pad to cycle. Does any of them feel right?
  3. Performance — what framerate are you getting, and on what CPU/GPU?
  4. AI aggression — do the opponents feel like they're racing you or bullying you?
  5. Difficulty — can you finish a race? Or are you alone on the track after lap one?

Happy to answer anything about the Godot side of it too — shaders, hover physics, export pipeline, whatever's useful.

My free-to-play indie 2D platformer MMORPG Soul's Remnant (which was made in Godot 4.7) finally launches August 13th on Steam (Early Access)!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3451980/Souls_Remnant

It took so much work... 10 years of development between me and my partner, but here we are!

If you have any questions about the development of the game and/or how its made, I'm down to answer in the replies!

Best of luck to others on their games! Don't make an MMO unless you like to work really really hard haha!

I started making this game in December at the back of my class during a very boring uni lecture. My little prototype was actually pretty fun so I got my friend on board and together we made Pickochet in a total of 8 months. It was a lot of work and we've learned a lot of things but seeing the response to the game so far has been so worth it!

It's crazy to think that my little distraction project would be released as an actual real game that people can play!

You can check out the game here

Thank you for reading!

Hi !

Just a quick discussion, I stumbled on a video on YouTube about mistakes in Godot, and while I was expecting very generic tips and stuff like that, I found out that he was giving very very good information (in my opinion) and I never saw anyone talking about it.

(Just In case, it isn’t me okay ?)

What do you think about it ?

Hi r/godot

I wanted to share with you this little trailer for Factory Default: Build, Trade, Repeat. It basically tells you that FD will be available on Steam in Early Access on September 8th!

In Factory Default: Build, Trade, Repeat, you manage a company across a 3D hex globe featuring 105 real countries and unions. Each has its own market, taxes, resource fertilities, and workforce demands. I tried to make the supply chains feel realistic. You navigate global geography and politics to secure resources for large-scale projects like a new continent in the Pacific, a space elevator, a space station, and as you can see on the roadmap, eventually much of our Solar System.

Made in Godot 4.3, published by MicroProse, and entering Early Access on September 8th!

If any of that interests you, you can check out the Steam Page where I go into much further detail.

Thanks!

-Chett

discussion I feel overwhelmed every time I open a Godot project.

Every time I open Godot, I feel overwhelmed about what to do for the game. Either it's too complex to even finish, or the game is too bare-bones and won't pass the bar.

  • I've been using Godot for about 2–3 years and hold a degree in ML/AI (I'm aware of the general consensus around Generative AI, so please don't judge me). I know my way around the engine. I've made a lot of small games and done game jams with mixed results.
  • I grew up playing rhythm games, specifically a good osu!mania player. I also loved puzzle games, platformers, and character-action games, DMC, Dark Souls, Sekiro, but I'm not particularly good at them. I'm not competitive, so I tend to stay away from multiplayer games. I'm in a second world country that have not access mean stream game in the early years, so 2D game is not my most played genre, (Accept Terraria and Stardew Valley I guess)

As for my struggles:

  • I'm solo trying to make a commercial game. I've done a lot of research, and it always boils down to: make a good game that people want to play. But the bar keeps rising every year.
  • The game design part really makes me struggle. I just can't settle on a clear game that I want to make. My thought process goes like:
    • The bar for selling a game is incredibly high, gameplay, visuals, audio, production value.
    • A simple 2D game won't cut it for me.
      • The bar for 2D games is so high I see a lot of good indie games still struggle with it.
      • I don't enjoy making GUI-heavy games, rogue-likes, or incremental games, even though they're kinda the indie solo dev meta...
    • A 3D game with unique mechanics or art style would have a better shot.
      • Pseudoregalia, Metal Garden, Babbdi, Motor Slice,...
      • 3D still has a lot more room to fit into. But the production grind is brutal - mechanics, modeling, texturing, level design... each area takes weeks or months just to get a decent result.
  • I end up spending more time researching, designing, and practicing than actually opening Godot and doing something. And every time, I realize the game I want to make is either too complex, borderline impossible for a solo dev, or just has boring mechanics that players have seen hundreds of times. I change the game design and the loop continue.
  • World-building and lore are a whole other beast. I want to design a character, but I need to know who they are, which means I need the general story behind them, which also needs some world-building first...
  • I've tried combine unique ideas together, but there's always a catch, either devs avoid that combination because they conflicting, or the system would make the game incredibly complex (like a third-person movement shooter in the style of AC6).
  • And there are countless other problems, though implementation itself has actually been the easiest part for me so far.
  • I know the advice is to start small, but that feels like laying bricks without having a layout for the house.
  • The '2 cakes' analogy doesn't click for me. Players have limited time if two games look similar, they'll naturally choose the one with better production value.

I feel like I'm in the middle of the death valley of Game Dev (not even in development hell yet lol). Any advice could really, really help.

discussion Starting my First Godot Project-

Thumbnail

Hi, I'm starting my first-ever Godot Project. I'm planning to do a simple Pomodoro application with a simple task/goal list. Nothing groundbreaking, but I suppose it's a good starting point.

I've followed Godot Documentation's "Your First 2D/3D game" tutorials, and today I'm starting to create something from scratch. I spent the entire day just figuring out how to use the Control nodes and managed to build these three scenes so far. No code/logic yet, but I will work on that as soon as I'm done setting up my "building blocks".

Is there anything that I should know about Godot or suggestions/ressources that I could use to build this Pomodoro/Task Tracker app or UI in general?

Do my Scene Trees look reasonably ok? Am I supposed to rename EVERY node with something a bit more descriptive? Or only the important nodes? Thanks! :)
