Grabbed this Beauty for $650 with gibson hardcase, Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Slash pickups, and the guy threw in the stock pickups too. How did I do?
Also, pickguard ON or OFF?

Help I bought two…

So I made a post a week or so ago about purchasing a Gibson and I found two that I wanted to try out. I ended up ordering both from guitar center. One is a 2025 LP Studio Session (Blue) and the other is a 2009 LP Studio Deluxe (Silverburst). One of them has to go back though and I plan to shoot them both out side by side to see which I like better.

I’ve played both and they’re both great playing. The 2009 is a lot more beat up than the listing was leading on, many dings and chips and scrapes for a “great” condition guitar and for the price in my opinion. The 2025 is pretty much mint.

What other things to consider other than playability and sound? Which would you guys consider over the other?

New SS bourbon burst. I know some will say more less than paul but I actually love the design of this guitar. There’s a neck cut away for easier access to higher up on the neck, push/pull knobs for coil splitting and phasing , ebony fretboard with neck binding and weight relief but still coming in at a tick under 9 lbs.

Help What you recommend if I love the Gibson style/feel but want a Tele/Strat sound?

Pretty self explanatory. I'm not too big on teles or strats but I like the sound. Do you think LP Juniors or Specials would do the job?

NGD ‘07 “Lucy” spec R7 🍒

Though I would share this killer. This was my “wand chooses the wizard” moment. Been through a couple customs now and ended up selling or trading them, but this one is definitely a keeper. Called Gibson to verify the serial since I knew they didn’t make like official Lucy reissues until like 2013? Might be wrong so feel free to correct me. But this one is super rad. From 2007 and spec-ed to be that Lucy look. So maybe originally was a custom order? In any case it’s in great condition with only a few dings on the neck and some light marks on the top. Only noticeable thing is there’s some bad finish burn from a music stand or something on both bouts of the guitar. Makes me wonder if this was maybe someone’s collector piece. Loaded with Burstbucker 1 and 2s and it sounds phenomenal. Bright and articulate but still full and fat like a good PAF should be. Not sure if the wiring is original but the pots in it now are perfect. Very wide sweep and no fall off spots. Absolutely “my” Les Paul. 🍒

Potential buy if everything checks out. It looks like an aftermarket bridge though, is this legit or no?

Posted this beauty a few months ago when I first bought it but here’s a little update.

2015 Gibson Les Paul Traditional in Placid Purple

-Grover 406 locking tuners

-Brass nut replaced with Graphtech Tusq XL

-Chrome switched to gold

-Cream plastics switched to black

-Peouguard Holeless Pickguard

-Gibson 59 tribute neck pickup

-Dimarzio Super Distortion Bridge pickup

-Fake Gibson custom shop toggle plate lol

The neck takes a little getting used to but I love this guitar so much now. People seem to stay away from these 2015’s but they can be turned into pretty amazing guitars with some small tweaks. Most notably the graphtech nut.

Discussion Which Les Paul?

I have a Fender Am Pro ii Strat in SSS configuration and I like it for clean sounds but lately my taste has changed and I'm craving for a Les Paul for all kinds of rock sounds (alternative/classic/hard rock). I've tried and listened to several Les Pauls from different brands and none of them clicked with me. I don't have the budget for a Custom Shop but I can go up to Standart if I really decide on it with a little bit of saving money. I don't wanna buy any of them second handed.

I know it's all preference and everyone has different tastes but I just wanna be satisfied and don't wanna get second thoughts after a while. I need honest comments from people that actually went through my train of thought.

I have thought of the new LP Studio's which is instantly available to me financially at the moment but to be honest, when I think of a Gibson Les Paul with my eyes closed, I picture Les Paul Standart aesthetics and can't help not to. Studio's or Studio Sessions on paper has some modern features that sounds fun at the beginning (thinner neck, weight relief, tonal options etc.) I tell myself: "don't you just want the classic Les Paul sound?" I'm really choking here, maybe this post will make things worse but I just wanna get out of my head and decide finally. I want to play at home and on gig's as well. It's gonna be my main guitar for hard rock sounds.

Got this 2020 SG tribute for dirt cheap ($600CAD) decided to do a single pickup mod. Deleted the neck pickup / volume knob only / Seymour Duncan JB SH4 in the bridge position. Set it up to D standard and made it a cool stage banger for my hardcore band

Here's my Gibson Les Paul Spider-Man Web-slinger. Only 150 were made by Gibson Custom Shop and of 150, only 75 were signed by Stan Lee, which mine is signed by him.

Now, the person I got it from did not treat it like a collectable, so there are a couple dings and scratches. Also, it didn't come with the accessories.

Regardless, it's an incredible piece. Very cool! Not many out there.🕷️

Help Pickup replacement for SGJ

Post image
27 Upvotes

So, last week a Gibson model previously unknown to me, the SGJ, popped up on local marketplace. Researched it, bought it, played it, loved it.

So… While researching the SGJ, I found out Gibson also made a LPJ. After having played the SGJ for a few hours, still buzzing over how such a rad guitar could cost so little, I sat down to browse the local markeplace. Lo a behold - right up top, front and center - a LPJ Goldtop was put up for sale. Algorithms, you gotta love/hate them. So anyway, high on the NGD drug, I messaged the seller, and picked it up the next morning. It's NGGD - New Guitar Groundhog Day!

So now I have two guitars with the same pickups, that sound exactly the same. Good thing that can be solved by spending just a little bit more money! I’m thinking I want to mod the SGJ with a pickguard, new knobs, truss rod cover - and some new pickups to make it sound different from the LPJ.

My immediate thought is humbucker sized P90s. What would you recommend in that category? Or do you have tips for humbucker sized humbuckers that sound better than the 490s that are in there now?
