Mod Official Primary Election PSA: Today (2026/07/20) is the deadline to register to vote!

FAQ

When is the deadline to register to vote for this year’s election?

TODAY!

Where can I register to vote?

You can register to vote here on the official Florida voter registration website.

I am already registered to vote but I have moved/changed my name since the last election. Is this deadline applicable to me?

If you made any changes of that nature, please update your registration with the link above before the deadline!

When can I vote in-person?

If you are registered to vote, you can vote during your county's early election period. The mandatory early voting period August 8th – August 15th, 2026.

Each county Supervisor of Elections may offer more days of early voting. Check with your county Supervisor of Elections for the days of early voting that may be offered in your county.

Election Day is 08/18/2026.

When can I request a mail-in ballot?

The deadline to request that a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed is no later than 5:00 p.m. (local time) on the 12th day before the election. For this year’s election, that would be August 6th. Source

When should I be receiving my mail-in ballot?

Supervisors of Elections typically send out the ballots during a 7-day window between 40 and 33 days before an election.

If you already had a mail-in ballot requested for this year's elections, and have not received it, please contact your county's Supervisor of Elections.

For more information about voting by mail, please visit the Florida Department of Election Vote-by-Mail page.

I am a registered Democrat/Independent/Republican. Am I allowed to vote for people on the ballot that have a different affiliation from me?

Yes. Additionally, you can vote for a member of one party in one race and vote for a member of another party in another race. Who you vote for is secret.

Do I have to vote in every race on the ballot?

You can leave a race blank if you choose to and your vote will still be counted on other races that you vote on, on your ballot. However, try your best to make an informed vote on every race on the ballot.

I don't recognize anyone on the ballot. Where can I find more information on the candidates?

In addition to the candidate's website (which, if they have one, can be found through googling the candidate's name) Ballotpedia.org usually has some information on down ballot races as well. The best source on local elections would be the major newspaper for your area (Tampa Bay Times, Miami Herald, Sun Sentinel, etc). They interview almost every candidate of every race that is happening in the area so you can find out the positions of every candidate on each issue.

AskFlorida Orlando feels like it has fallen behind Tampa - and St. Pete and Ft. Lauderdale are catching up (urban redevelopment)

Upvotes

Through the 2000's and 2010's I think the general consensus was Tampa and Orlando were more or less neck and neck as cities, and that Orlando had the better Downtown. But fast forward to today, and it seems like Orlando has really stagnated, while Tampa is in boom mode.

Downtown Orlando has no major construction projects (200+ feet tall) right now, and hasn't had any since Society completed construction 3 years ago. Meanwhile, Tampa has the 500 foot One Tampa under construction, the 400 foot Pendry under construction, Related Group just broke ground on a 24 story tower, the 300 foot Midtown East and AER projects were just completed, etc. plus numerous projects proposed from Gas Worx, to Water Street Tampa, Ora Tower, Ybor Harbor, and a planned building boom in Tampa Heights.

Likewise, St. Pete and Ft. Lauderdale, two cities that were always considered a tier below Orlando, have almost eliminated the gap, and most people would agree both have more lively Downtowns than Orlando at this point. Both of those cities are boom cities and both now have taller skylines than Orlando. The tallest building in Orlando would only be the 4th tallest building in St. Pete and the 7th tallest building in Ft. Lauderdale. This is mainly due to a burst of projects completed in those cities in the past 3 years.

It seems like Orlando is now more similar to Jacksonville, while Tampa has elevated into the clear cut #2 city in Florida only after Miami.

Thoughts?

AskFlorida One day Insurance Lapse

Upvotes

Hey, I had insurance with Direct Auto until June 28, and my new insurance with GEICO starts on June 29. But Direct Auto is trying to charge me $150 for an alleged 24-hour lapse in coverage.
Their argument is that their policy ends at 12:01 a.m. on June 28, meaning I’d be uninsured for the rest of that day, which I’m skeptical about.
Am I being scammed out of this, or should I actually be worried about this supposed “24-hour” gap?
