Since March of 2022, I have been in the middle of 4 high speed police chases. One that ended on an exit ramp of 95, 5 feet from my rear bumper with gunshots. For reference, 2 have been in Broward County, 1 in Dade and 1 in Collier/West Broward…

I am curious if anyone else has had similar experiences. It genuinely seems like a lot in 4 years…

Hi everyone. My husband recently received a job offer in Stuart, and we’re really torn on what to do.

The pay isn’t amazing, but with both of our incomes we should be able to make it work, especially since he’ll be eligible for a pay increase after completing his training. The problem is housing.

We’re coming from Texas, where we’re currently paying about $1,300 base rent for a 775 sq. ft. one-bedroom apartment in a safe, well-maintained community. We knew Florida would be more expensive, but we honestly didn’t expect it to be this difficult.

We’ve searched everywhere we can think of: Stuart, Port St. Lucie, Palm City, Hobe Sound, Jensen Beach, Fort Pierce, and even parts of the West Palm Beach area. We’ve looked on Apartments.com, Zillow, Redfin, Google, and pretty much every apartment website we can find. We’ve also started looking at condos/homes for rent on FB Marketplace.

The issue is that everything in our budget seems to fall into one of these categories:

• Around $1,600+ for a tiny one-bedroom/studio
• Places that look very outdated or in neighborhoods we’re unsure about.
• Really terrible/scary reviews
• Or they’re simply unavailable unless you’re 55+

My husband will likely be working a lot of overtime, so I’ll be home alone most of the time. Safety is a huge priority for us, especially since I don’t know the area.

We’re starting to wonder if we’re just searching the wrong way. Are there local property management companies, apartment locators, condo rental agencies, Facebook groups, or other resources that locals use that don’t always show up on Zillow or Apartments.com?

This would be our first out-of-state move, and honestly we’re feeling overwhelmed. My husband has been looking for work for almost a year, so this is the first solid opportunity he’s received in a long time. At the same time, the company doesn’t offer relocation assistance, a sign-on bonus, or temporary housing, so we’re trying to figure out if this move is financially realistic or if we’re setting ourselves up for more stress.

If you were in our shoes, what would you do? Are there any areas we should be looking at that are safe and a little more affordable? Or is this just the reality of the housing market around Stuart?

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who know the area.

We're a family of five (2 adults + 3 kids, who will be 5, 8 and 11) from Sweden planning our first Florida trip around Easter 2027 (10–12 nights). We'd love to hear your recommendations from people who know the area!

Our rough plan is to split the trip between the Gulf Coast and the Miami area. We'd love a mix of beautiful beaches, relaxing days, sports, and fun experiences for the kids.

A few questions:

Which beaches are absolute must-visits? (Clearwater, Siesta Key, Anna Maria Island, Hollywood Beach, others?)

Where would you stay on the Gulf Coast if you were traveling with kids?

We will not stay at miami beach, would Hollywood Beach or somewhere else be a better base?

We definitely want to attend a Miami Heat game (Pelle Larsson!!!!). Any tips for buying tickets, parking, getting to and from the arena, where to sit with kids, or anything first-timers should know?

Any attractions or experiences that are genuinely worth it for families? (Airboat tours, Everglades, dolphin tours, Kennedy Space Center, etc.)

Best places to see wildlife?

Any restaurants we shouldn't miss?

Things tourists often overlook or wish they had known before visiting?

Any areas we should avoid?

Any money-saving tips?

We'll have a rental car for the whole trip, so driving between destinations isn't a problem.

Hello, I'm 18, trying to find a job to save money for college, I've been looking around and all of the entry level work (specifically warehousing, retailing, and fast food) has been around $14.00/hr-16.00/hr, which isn't enough to allow me to save for a good state college as I'll only make a net income of at most $33k a year. What jobs do you guys recommend me to start out in?

From what I can tell the housing market in rural, urban, and suburban areas is imploding. How is this impacting the local economies?

I currently live in Chicago and am looking to move to Orlando in January. I’m not sure the best area to live, but I want to move some place warmer than Chicago. I make 75k remotely with upward career momentum and will be 32yo with over 50k in savings to give perspective. I’m also a single man looking for a relationship. Do you think Orlando is a good fit?

Our hotel in Orlando had to let go of the previous cleaning company because they kept missing shifts and the quality was getting worse. Now we’re looking for a reliable new crew.

We need someone who can handle daily room cleaning for a 60-room property, plus common areas, with consistent staff and good communication.

We are looking to move to SW FL next summer. We are empty nesters so I’m not looking for a school system. My husband is a ASE master tech and has had several different job offers so I don’t think finding employment would be too hard for him and I’ve been in dentistry for over 25 years and can work remote so we aren’t too worried about jobs. My in-laws live in Naples and we would like to be within 2-3 hours of them. I’m going to be bringing my dad with me so we will be looking for a house with a guest house/MIL wing. We have about 200k savings to help with the move but my question is where? I’ve seen so many post discouraging people to move down there but it’s gotta be better than Memphis lol. We’re in out 40s but still like to live a little. Is it dreaming to think we can find a house that we want for 500-600k? We’ve never left Memphis born and raised so I need all the advice.

I’m moving to south florida for a couple of years for school. Coming from Vermont, so I don’t start wearing warm stuff till it’s maybe 45 degrees. I am only moving with my car so trying to be selective with what I’m bringing. I’m struggling to gauge how many warm pieces I need. I get that it gets below 60 degrees there once in a while but I’m wondering how often? When yall get cold fronts is it usually just a day or 2? Does it ever get to 30 degrees for more than a day? I’m planning on leaving all puffy jackets and heavy sweaters in storage. Please give me advise

Hi all, I grew up in st cloud and kissimmee. We were homeless on and off and always living in hotels or motels on 192. When the movie "the florida project" came out based on this very issue , there was a huge amount of people who saw it , but only a small amount of people who truly understood it. Tiktok flooded with people dancing in front of the real motel , where people were struggling in 2020. People still go there for content to this day. Because of this , I hadn't watched the movie until last year. I was surprised to find myself appreciating the movie , I found what others took as "aesthetics" to be representation of being blissfully unaware as a kid , rather than nostalgia.

Nonetheless , id like to put out a video on this from the perspective of someone who lived it as a kid, me.

We live in Atlanta and are planning to rent a Class B or C RV or tow a travel trailer or pop-up camper to northern Florida for water adventures. We're a family of three - two Gen X-ers with a 12-year old who is contemplating her sexual and gender identities. We're very easy-going, super casual, love takeout, camping, backpacking and relaxing as much as possible. Basically long-haired, socialist hippies that haven't sold out and hate racists and fascists.

We also love water - in particular snorkeling in salt and freshwater and relaxing by / swimming in the ocean. We also love seeing wildlife, both in and out of the water. We much prefer a secluded trail or spring, local burgers and fries in a bag or from a grill while sitting in our chairs by the water to fancy restaurants, theme parks and tourist traps.

Here's our parameters:
- Arrive in the evening on Wednesday before Indigenous Peoples Day and returning the following Tuesday. That gives us 5 full days to explore and 6 nights to "camp".
- We would like to spend at least a couple of nights as close to the beach as possible - preferably on the Atlantic but would consider the Gulf. Preferably somewhere away from tourist spots, larger towns, etc. We REALLY like to relax..
- We would really like to snorkel as much as possible. I know there's likely nowhere on the Atlantic for this but we've heard of various clear springs in inland north Florida and we're highly interested in that!
- We also love seeing wildlife, hiking and just generally being outside as long as we're not having to fight a zillion other people to see whatever it is

Given our likes - what places are must-sees? Any recommended itineraries? Are there some great RV parks for a short stay that are maybe more "cool" for people like us? Are there other subs that would be a better place to post this?
