This morning I've come into work to see Firefox (the companies main browser) has broken overnight

It seems to think there are other instances running in the background despite there not being any, I think its because of the 153 update, but nothing I have tried has work and the whole company is chaos

I was using Firefox for a majority of 2025, not really knowing if it was more or less secure, but late last year I had some scares that necessitated I care a little more about staying safer and secure online. So I went looking for guides on how to improve my system security (I am on Fedora Linux), and one I came across was the SecureBlue/RKNF404 guide which claims to this day that Firefox is "inherently insecure", but I'm wondering if that is a false claim at this point. I'm still unsure because I dont know if they're bsing me, but I trust them due to their connection with some open source projects I quite like. Thats why if you saw me elsewhere I felt like i needed to defend the guide, I felt it was keeping me safe.

I'm too comfortable with my current Chromium setup right now, but if I was to migrate back (would be rather quick atp) how close is current Firefox to it, compared to what SecureBlue says? Particularly on Linux, as they did say Firefox is okay on Windows.

I ask because a lot of the features seem designed for non technical users.
But isn't firefox's userbase largely holdouts and technical users who've used it for decades?

What does it look like from your perspective?

Or do I have some mental disorder?

I do mass closing every few weeks or months, but it happens again in a matter of days.

Firefox changed something recently with "most visited" and I'm finding it REALLY annoying.

I have my home page set up with 4 rows of my most visited sites. For years its worked flawlessly.

As of a recent update though, now it adds random sites/urls that I've only visited once or twice, and adds them in my top row. I have to dismiss them as they appear, otherwise the list would be all messed up.

Example, if I click a random link to a picture on reddit, it will now show up in the first row of "most visited", ahead of other sites/urls that I visit multiple times a day.

Anyone else having this happen? Any suggestions to fix?

I used firefox from 2020/2021 and back there i didnt really like the browser that much, i had an old HP Laptop from 2009 running Windows 10 at the time, firefox lagged a lot and like in march of 2021 i went to chrome and used until august of 2022 when i got my new laptop i used Chrome there for a month and then i saw the Opera GX ads on youtube that said “opera gx is a gaming browser” and i installed and liked and i used for like 4 years. Back there i installed whatever browser people suggested, now i regret that.

So why i changed to Firefox? I saw some allegations about opera gx being a spyware and owned by a chinese company, and i changed to opera gx as some friends of mine told me that was very good now than 2021, and i installed, moved my stuff to there, and i realized that is so much better and so much smoother than the browser i used, and had more personalization options than opera, i personalized it, installed some extensions that i use and i realized, the cause of firefox being super bugged and laggy in 2021 was because of the pc i used there, now with a even powerful machine i use it with no problems and not of any of those things that i had, also i have lots of laptops, that i use, installed firefox there and logged into my Mozilla account and it started downloading all my personalization settings, extensions, everything!

Of course, there are many features different of opera but i learned how to use them. And i finally can say this was the best decision ever, switch from a supposed “gaming browser” to an real, trusted browser.

Hey folks, right now im using Speed Dial 2 as new tab. It was my goto on chrome, it is my goto on firefox and you can migrate everything without premium plan. But as far as im aware Speed Dial 2 is not supported on mobile and i would like a completely free alternative that works on mobile and desktop, and it must have some kind of sync (of course automatic one using mozila's service would be awesome).

So any suggestions?

My machine updated to Firefox 153 this morning and since updating it’s not been able to open, I’ve created a new profile, tried booting into safe mode, uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox but it’s not opening.

The event viewer shows that it’s not being able to open because of microsoft.ui.windowing.core.dll.

Has something changed that requires this? I’ve not been able to find anything about this, I’ve got another machine on 152.0.6 and I’m not wanting to update to 153 just incase it crashes again.

Any ideas?

The Firefox merch could be a little cheaper considering $40 is a little much for a shirt. I understand there’s also the fact there’s more to it than just the product itself and you’re also paying for the branding but $40?

I'm not sure if this was caused by a recent Firefox update or if I accidentally changed a setting.

I attached a video showing the before and after.

Previously, when I hovered over the collapsed sidebar, it would expand with a smooth animation. The transition felt fluid, and when I moved the mouse away, it would collapse smoothly again.

Now it feels much more abrupt. Instead of smoothly expanding, it just snaps open, making the whole interaction feel less polished. I still have "Expand sidebar on hover" enabled, but it doesn't behave the same way anymore.

I also noticed that the sidebar now has a dark gray background, whereas before it remained translucent, matching the top toolbar. The old look felt much more consistent with the rest of the UI.

Did Firefox change this behavior in a recent update, or did I accidentally change some setting? If it's the latter, is there a way to restore the previous behavior?

I can join a google meet call, then for 5 seconds i can hear the audio, but then it just goes mute making me then have to join on my phone. I thought it was my uBlock origin extension, but i disabled it and it still happens. Here are the other extensions I use.

Tried:

1) Deleting cookies/cache

2) Going to Firefox's Enhanced Tracking Protection and putting Kick on as an exception

3) Spoofing my Browser Agent (which AI said was most effective)

None of it worked.

History:

I've never had Windows location services turned on, and for years FF used the HTML5 API to correctly determine my location, presumably by routing to another get location provider. Websites were always happy. Then around v152, FF integrated with Windows to use the Windows location API. Websites were suddenly sad.

So I went into about:config and set "geo.provider.ms-windows-location = false", which forced the HTML5 api to use another geo location provider. Websites were happy again!

And now after 152.0.5, websites are sad again. :-(

Current issue:

Currently running FF 153.0 on Windows 10, and FF doesn't provide a location via the Geolocation API. Anyone have a solution that DOESN'T involve turning on the OS location?

I'm literally trying to provide my actual location. No spoofing. No nonsense. Just not via Windows API.

What exactly is included under "remote improvements", which can be controlled via the "Allow Firefox to improve features, performance, and stability between updates" option?

Is it basically everything that would eventually be included in a future Firefox release anyway, and things like enabling certain features (e.g. the VPN button) through a gradual rollout?

Also, why does "about:support" show the following as active even though I have this feature disabled?

So, in general, would it be fair to say that "remote improvements" are actually beneficial and it's perfectly fine to leave the option enabled unless you specifically want to avoid feature fragmentation between different devices? Or are there any other downsides?

By the way, regarding features... if someone from Mozilla happens to read this:
The marketing team seems a bit overenthusiastic. Release notes often advertise features that don't actually reach everyone until weeks or even months later due to staged rollouts.
That's honestly really annoying. It would be much clearer if features that are available immediately and those being rolled out gradually were distinguished more explicitly.

I've been experience this very persistent and annoying bug(?) Where out of nowhere, the page will go blank and refreshing the page doesn't fix it. More often than not, I'll just open up another tab just to bypass it, but even then sometimes that tab will be blank just the same as the first so I'll having to just open 2 or 3 extra tabs until it just decides to stop blanking out on me. The main websites I visit are usually just YouTube and Twitch, so it may have something to do with video streaming sites, but I'm not entirely sure as I don't visit many other sites on this device. The tab will often continue running in the background, but the page will remain blank and I can't seem to do anything to reverse it.

I'm having a frustrating issue with Firefox on Windows 11 and I hope someone can help me figure this out.

The problem:
I only receive desktop notifications from YouTube. For Reddit, Vinted, and other sites, I get nothing – even though they are set to "Allow" in the Firefox notification settings.

What I've already tried (and still doesn't work):

• Added the sites to Firefox notification settings and set them to "Allow" (under Privacy & Security → Permissions → Notifications).
• Changed alerts.useSystemBackend to true in about:config and restarted Firefox.
• Checked Windows Settings → System → Notifications – Firefox is enabled and allowed to send notifications.
• Restarted my laptop several times.
• Checked if any "Focus Mode" or "Do Not Disturb" setting in Windows is blocking them – nothing.
• Made sure the "Block new requests" checkbox in Firefox notification settings is unchecked.
• The sites are set to "Allow" in Firefox and also in the site-specific permissions (via the lock icon in the address bar).

The strange part:
YouTube works perfectly. But for Reddit and Vinted, even though Firefox says they're allowed, no notification ever appears on my desktop. I even tested with a generic notification tester website – and got nothing.

My question:
Is there some hidden Firefox setting I'm missing? Could it be related to the Enhanced Tracking Protection? Or is there something wrong with how Windows handles notifications for specific sites?

I've spent hours trying to fix this – any help would be really appreciated! 🙏
