Dear REDACTED
Hello, My Name is (). I hope this message finds you well. I am a (major) student going into my second year of college. I am writing to you to bring to your attention the challenges I faced that led to my inadequacy this past school quarter and the result of my not meeting the satisfactory academic standards needed to receive FAFSA eligibility. I take full responsibility for this, and as a result, I will not be able to afford to continue my higher education if I do not receive financial aid. FAFSA is the only way I can afford to go to school, and taking loans is not an option for me and my family. I would like to provide you with reasoning and a reconsideration of my current status
The last few months have been very difficult for me as I have suffered a lot personally and did not have any system or community that I felt comfortable falling back on. I went through a very toxic and controlling environment with someone in my past and felt too embarrassed and afraid to reach out to anyone about it. I never opened up to my peers because of anxiety about judgment and condemnation for getting myself into a situation like this. I also never reached out for professional help, as I felt going through therapy was something shameful, and I hated the feeling of being vulnerable to a stranger.
This combination made me feel stuck in this relationship and greatly affected my grades. I felt as though I couldn’t work on myself without angering and displeasing this person. I slowly went into a spiral of amotivation, feeling as if I shouldn’t even bother to work if it meant feeling distanced from this person. I also felt very suicidal during this time. I felt as if ending my life would be better than being stretched thin between multiple facets of my life. I never acted upon this emotion, but unfortunately, it made it so I was unable to maintain the required GPA to continue to be eligible for financial aid.
Since school ended, I have taken steps to better my life and mental health. I have taken more time to enjoy things for myself and take opportunities to help others. I have parted ways from this person and have erased any ways for them to contact me. Distancing myself from this connection has helped me to heal from such a low point in my life. I have also joined the () corporation, volunteering to coach a 7/8th grade flag football team. Having the responsibility of coaching and being a leader for these kids has shown me the importance of discipline within myself and the positive effects it has on those around me. I have also come out to a few friends about everything that happened during the spring quarter and have been implored to go into therapy, so I am in the process of finding professional help. I still feel strange looking into professional help, but I know that it will be something very beneficial for my psychological well-being and allow me to give it my all in my educational journey. I am committed to continuing school and am willing to push my boundaries to do so.
I kindly request a reexamination of my FAFSA eligibility in light of the support I am receiving, the steps I am taking to better myself, and the escape from the relationship I had during my last few months of school. Financial aid is crucial for me as it is the only way I can afford a higher education, and I am committed to doing whatever I can to help myself to earn my eligibility back.
Thank you for reading and considering my appeal. I am more than willing to provide any more documentation or information needed to support my case. I am focused on improving myself every day, not only in my personal life, but also in my life in education as well.
Sincerely,
()
