There are at least 7 flock cameras that watch and record you and your family as you move around town.

Did you know that there are at least 7 license-plate reading cameras currently being used to watch the people Cheney ? They sit at almost every major road or intersection in town. One sits outside the university, one records people enter and exit the middle school.

Flock cameras have become a growing threat to our privacy and civil liberties and are being used to store and track the whereabouts of any car with a readable license plate that passes them.

Throughout the country these cameras are being used to target protesters: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/11/how-cops-are-using-flock-safetys-alpr-network-surveil-protesters-and-activists

Let certain users stalk their ex-partners: https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2026/07/police-losing-jobs-flock-cameras-alprs/

Mis identify and arrest innocent civilians: https://www.aclu.org/campaigns-initiatives/get-the-flock-out

And can be accessed by third parties to watch you: https://www.wabe.org/cobb-county-youtuber-documents-flock-camera-vulnerabilities/

If you don’t want more of this Orwellian surveillance in your county I suggest you reach out to the local PD and sheriffs offices to voice your concerns. Also, remember this as you vote this fall!

Massive depressive spiral/burnout, stopped attending and withdrew from classes, where do I go from here? How can I fix it?

Hi, new student here, I enrolled last fall and I had a massive depressive spiral during my 2nd semester of classes from personal life issues, I got super burnt out and totally shut down. I fell behind in classes and ended up withdrawing from them. I was given an amazing chance at college, with a lot of financial support from grants and scholarships, and I live in a drivable range to EWU. I really don't want to mess up my future. I did fine in my first semester of school and passed all of my classes, but I blew my second semester and haven't been back since.

What do I do from here? I'm not great at navigating EWU services and I've been really hesitant to ask for help or advice from staff or anyone else. Thank you.

Hello,

I'm moving to Cheney soon, and I was thinking about living at the Philena Apartments. Does anyone have any experience with this place or know someone who does? How is it?

Transferring; how likely is admission for me?

Hey all, I’m a WA state community college student with about 73 credits and preparing to finish up my AA-DTA . I’m looking to apply to several four year’s under a criminal justice program; EWU Being one of them, but I currently have a 2.25 GPA and 5 classes remaining. My gpa is this low due to some unfortunate life circumstances in the past but I’m determined to get it as high as through these 5 remaining classes. My question is how likely is admission for me?

Housing questions :)

Hello! I’m starting a MS in Biology at EWU in the fall, and am wondering if anybody has any advice on finding housing.

I am looking for a place in Spokane/Cheney, on both Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. Are there any sites that are better for searching? I’ve noticed a fair amount of scams on both, and am looking for something on the cheaper end - either private room in a shared house or a studio/1-bedroom would work (I’d prefer a 1-bedroom though lol).

Does anybody commute between Spokane and Cheney? How is the commute? I’m guessing there’s more to do in Spokane than Cheney? I am in my 30s and don’t really want to be in the middle of a college town so Spokane is looking more desirable at the moment, but am interested in hearing how people like living in either town!

Anyone taken History MA at EWU online? (Or in-person)

Im considering this online program but im not fully convinced yet. I am weighing my options University of Nebraska at Omaha, Oregon State, and EWU. Reality is im an older student so I value my time. I have my social science BA along with a teaching credential program completed. I just want my MA to further my pay and possibly teach community college. Truth is, EWU is the most economical and also, they’re advertising this program being able to be completed in 8 months.(which is kind of crazy) A little skeptical. Anyone has any thoughts or experiences?

Thank you!

Students battle EWU to keep gender studies: In the years after its rebranding as a ‘polytechnic,’ EWU may slash academic programs, including its gender studies, ESL, data science and other degrees. Advocates are rallying against the cuts.

Hi. I'm wondering if there's a spot where grad students can find roommates. Thanks

Or, does anyone have any recommendations for spots that are under 1k that are studios or one bedrooms?

Thoughts on EWU Nursing?

Pretty much what the title says. I’m struggling to find a nursing program thats not super expensive and was looking into EWU, but since it’s rather new i guess theres not much on it?

Does anyone know anything about it in terms of what it’s like or if it’s a good program?

[Academic] Calling all Eagles! 🦅 Help a fellow WA researcher with wildfire safety study (Win a $50 Gift Card)

Hello r/EWU community!

I am a PhD student at the University of Washington, and I’m reaching out to our sister institutions in the Inland Northwest for some help with my doctoral research. I am conducting an official study on how EV drivers respond to wildfire evacuations specifically in Central and Eastern Washington.

Since EWU is a cornerstone of the Spokane and Cheney communities, your insights (and those of your families in the region) are incredibly valuable. We want to ensure that state-level infrastructure planning accurately reflects the needs of drivers across the Inland NW, not just the I-5 corridor.

Who should take this?

  • Primary or seasonal residents in: Asotin, Grant, Benton, Spokane, Stevens, Douglas, Lincoln, Ferry, Skamania, Yakima, Kittitas, Okanogan, Chelan, or Klickitat counties.
  • You must drive a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).

The Details:

  • ⏱ Time: ~25 minutes.
  • 🎁 Reward: Enter a drawing for one of 14 gift cards (ten $20 cards and four $50 cards).
  • 📅 Deadline: May 31, 2026.

🔗 Survey Link:https://uwashington.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_e3QtLbUuPaTdDmu

Your input will directly influence future policies on emergency charging and regional resilience. Thanks for supporting student research!

If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). Thank you for your time and for helping us improve wildfire safety and community resilience in Washington.

Best,
