That said, this is a different moderation team, so don't go there expecting them to help you with stuff on the subreddit (use modmail), and don't expect us to help with issues in the discord. But they are cool af so.

Mod post A return to your regularly scheduled (evil) business

Friends. Comrades. Countrypeople. Lend me your ears.

Today was intense, and we want to address how the earlier mod post was handled. The response made it clear that the original post was not as clear or careful as it needed to be. It created confusion, distress, and unnecessary conflict around gender, misogyny, misandry, trans men, and transmasculine people. We apologize for that.

Thank you all for engaging with our subreddit, even though today's threads were often overwhelming and probably a bit disruptive to your schedules. We apologize for any displacement of your routines or triggering content that you saw on the subreddit today. We just want to say, as a mod team and a collective, that this space has been known to the community as one that values inclusion, justice, and fairness, but we also know that those are words that have different definitions based on your lived experience. The last thing we want to do is to make this environment feel like one where people aren't allowed to participate in discussion.

To be absolutely, 100% clear.... people of all gender identities and experiences are welcome here, and gender discourse should not be used to invalidate, misgender, or dismiss others. In particular, this has recently affected the transmasculine people and trans men in our community, and that's why we have been putting an emphasis on their experience.

This community should be a place where difficult conversations can happen, but not a place where bigotry, misgendering, bio-essentialism, misogyny, transphobia, or dehumanizing gender discourse are treated as acceptable debate. People can have different lived experiences without dismissing or invalidating one another. This is a place where diversity of experience and opinion are welcome. It is not a place where we will tolerate bigotry or perspectives that perpetuate harm against other people. Discussions around identity are often extremely political, and no one person holds enough experience to be able to discredit the experience of another.

Please remember that all the people attached to a keyboard here are human beings, capable of saying things incorrectly, saying things they don't mean, and reacting emotionally. We try to remove comments only for explicit rule violations, and issue bans only when it serves the best interest of the community. Sometimes those decisions might not make overt sense to you, but I promise, we are trying to be as objective as possible when making these decisions. We are also autistic, too; that doesn't mean we're incapable of making mistakes, but we ask that you give us the kind of grace you would appreciate when you don't show up in the way you hoped you would.

Going forward, major moderator posts and stickied community statements will be reviewed and approved by the mod team before being posted. Individual moderators will still moderate threads as needed, but posts that represent the subreddit’s broader stance, rules, or values will be handled collectively.

We will also communicate more clearly with each other internally so that users are not left trying to figure out whether one mod’s wording represents the whole team.

Thank you to everyone who raised concerns, explained their perspective, or gave feedback today. We will not get everything right every time, but we are taking this seriously and want this community to remain inclusive, fair, and actively moderated.

From the bottom of our evil little hearts,

I DON'T GET IT *explodes* "Niger criminalising asexual" misrepresentation vent

Post image
308 Upvotes

Hey so,

EDIT: okay so I know this post is long and most may not read it, but please in the nicest way possible, dont just comment responding to the image 😭😭, the image is a misrepresentation of news 😭

I don't usually post about things related to social issues bc usually its debate/discussion things which I just like, don't engage with much. But this post came up on my feed twice (see image of post including it's caption), and I tried to look for atleast a small sign of what I was thinking in the comments (and reddit versions of the post), and I couldn't, so now I'm annoyed at how everyone responding seems to have fallen for what I think is basically fear mongering (or atleast an ignorant misrepresentation).

Before I explain my thoughts, just wanted to say I am asexual, and I understand why people found it worrying for asexual people.

I think the person who made the post grossly misrepresented the Niger law by making it sound like the wording separately mentions asexuality, and it's encouraged people to believe they were specifically targeting asexuality. Obviously like, social media is exactly where you expect to see goofy things but I'm genuinely disappointed at the lack of critical thinking ?? Like a lot of people clearly found it confusing, what are "asexual practices"?? How can you know someone is "asexual" from their "lifestyle"?? Guys cmon if something is confusing, atleast search it up before just saying it means they wanted to criminalise "not having sex/not being married" or "sexual harassment/rape". And from what I saw, people were then quoting that (which has just come from Comments) as legitimately being what Niger is trying to do?

Again I understand why people are worried about this but the reason it bothered me is bc this is clearly stemming from people caring about the LGBT community, and I feel like it's very obvious that asexual people being targeted is NOT the main concern at all. Actually, I feel like its common knowledge that anti LGBT laws used to be standard, and they often don't just criminalise/target same sex relationships, they target freedom of expression, activism and charitable work, allies too and basically everything related (which was already restricted in Niger before this specific law).

Oh i forgot to mention (what seems to be) the correct wording of the law: " “Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual (LGBTQIA+) practices or any other unnatural behavior”(taken from https://outrightinternational.org/our-work/sub-saharan-africa/Níger). Small difference but basically they are clearly just using the most modern acronym to make it easier to target whoever they want. Like do we really think a country with this much anti LGBT+ rhetoric knows what asexuality (or being intersex, another thing ppl found confusing) is?? Do we really think they are even seeing a difference between bisexuality and being gay???? It's about restricting and criminalising what they (and by they, I mean the politicians/leaders of the country) consider unnatural. If someone was an offender and wanted to use this law to try and get away with sexual harassment/rape, they would mention the person was gay over anything else bc anti-homosexuality is actually what underlies these laws and what the general public would understand (as well as transphobia but a lot of people still just see that as an extension of homosexuality/unnaturalness).

And the reason I dislike it being misrepresented and left at that for the people interacting with the post is that I think talking about something important in the wrong way just dismisses the real issue. The real issue is a country making it more dangerous for LGBT+ to live in, and essentially criminalising just existing. Especially bc it seems like, in articles I read, they wanted to focus on restricting expression, including self identification , and activism. Something that has historically happened a lot, and that anyone with basic lgbt+ knowledge will know is still happening in some areas of the world. Yet the misrepresentation has people responding to it like it's a sorta "new invention" (e.g. "this is a ploy for people to get away with rape"), or something "strange and confusing" and almost gimmicky (e.g. "what does this even mean??"). But they know exactly what they are doing with this law.

Also I find it even more disappointing knowing that people will engage w stuff like this, clearly care about the issue, and then just not actually learn anything useful. Like I saw some comments where people seemed confused about the concept of "but that would just mean existing is illegal??". Like, yes....that is exactly what it was like at some point in most of the world😭????

Well, hope you enjoyed the read. And again, I fully understand where peoples response came from. My main annoyance is the person who made the post misrepresented it and encouraged fear mongering about a real world issue, and that no one seemed to pick up on that or just acknowledge what the main consequences actually are.

Oh and I didn't know where to post this so I chose this subreddit, bc I hate sharing information I feel is incorrect/inaccurate, and I think it's actually insane that they picked one word out of an acronym...... so well, maybe someone else will understand these thoughts here 😭 That's all.

I DON'T GET IT *explodes* Can I just say that I absolutely loathe it when people sexualize JaidenAnimations?

Post image
126 Upvotes

Okay, I know it sounds odd as a title but I hate how people (mostly NSFW artists) draw Jaiden from JaidenAnimations (a real person mind you) in a sexual manner, like what the hell is this shit? It's extremely disrespectful as hell and I feel like it's very creepy to sexualize a real person who definitely doesn't feel comfortable about it, especially when she's publicly and explicitly AroAce (aromantic asexual). This also includes her mom.

But the problem is, even if she expresses genuine discomfort with anyone who lewd both her online and real-life persona while being unable to do anything about it, people like Shadman continue to double down on this very act even further, so much so that she actually has to delete ALL of her social media (Twitter/Instagram) posts because of it.

And if you seriously and unironically think "Oh, it's just the internet, you need to get used to people acting like that," "You're just being overly sensitive over things that doesn't affect your life in the slightest," or "Who cares? It's just a drawing, bro." don't fucking talk to me. This is bigger than that. This is a REAL person who happens to be subjected to constant sexual harassment by a bunch of freaks who violate their personal boundaries and deliberately stir them up by doing the very thing they told them not to.

What would you call it if someone was shoving drawings of breasts and genitalia in your face every single day by a bunch of kids who thought it was funny? You'd call that sexual harassment. I'd call that junior high school. 7th and 8th grade were ABSOLUTE HELL. Everyone else was becoming sexually aware, and I still had that childlike innocence. And Jr. High kids are assholes. If you don't like something, they'll keep doing it. If they're your friend? That just means it's okay for them to do that. They will bring up nude pictures from the web and drawing obscenities which you find repulsive. You can't really say no, or else, you'll be considered an outcast... or gay (even if the guys were drawing pictures of dicks. I seriously don't get that. They call everything gay as an insult while being obsessed about dicks at the same time. I don't think that's an asexual thing either. Most of them are probably closeted themselves).

And someone please, please explain this to me. Why did my friends keep calling me gay, when I didn't like looking at their drawings of penises that they thought were the funniest things ever? That is one of the biggest sexual questions that has alluded me all of my life. And no, they weren't using the context of "that's so stupid." That was, to them, a genuine indicator that I might have been gay. If someone made pornographic drawings of me without my consent, of course I would absolutely get fucking pissed at the guy who drew them, so how's that? Would you be okay with someone drawing porn of your parents? Of your siblings? Of your kid?

Let's not forget that aside from being an openly queer woman in real life, Jaiden is also both mixed-race/non-white (being half-Japanese, half-German) and neurodivergent (AuDHD), which certainly makes her identity even more of a jackpot to these online perverts jacking off to fetish art of her avatar. Isn't that fucking weird?

Oh, and you might not know this, but it's apparently a very popular trend to objectify both Asian women (especially when they also happen to be LGBTQ+ themselves) and autistic people for the sake of sexualizing and infantilizing them. I mean, I get that some people can have a type, but fetishizing an entire demographic to fuel your fantasies is morally reprehensible, and there’s this blatant misogyny/sexism in it because usually whenever someone is like this, it’s always an autistic woman, and never an autistic man.

Other victims include goth girls, gamer girls (which Jaiden is already technically one herself), and """"loser girls"""" (girls with messy hair and eye-bags).

Thanks for reading my rant, I guess...

Neurotypicals keep asking for honesty and clear communication, then immediately get offended when they receive honesty and clear communication. Fascinating species.

It's funny (and exhausting) how people think autism has a face. Unless you fit whatever stereotype they have in mind, they assume you can't possibly be autistic.

Evil infodump My company made me think i had to wake up at 6 for no reason

Post image

On the 22nd, the company said they needed me for an interview at 10 am. And then, on the same day, at 2:30 pm they said they needed me to go to work at 7:30 am to get my fingerprints recognition done.

I assumed that because it said I needed to go in at 7:30am it meant 7:30 am tomorrow on the 23rd, because it had already been 2 pm by the time I got the text. But no, i hadn't realized it said 7:30am the 22nd not 23rd, i.e., the day I was already on and which 7:30 am had already passed.

It literally said I needed to go to work at 7:30 in the morning on the 22nd, when they sent the text saying that out at 2pm in the afternoon on the

22nd, even though I had already been there at 10 am that morning for an interview.

So i just assumed I had to get to work on the 23rd when really I didn't.

TW: Suicidality

I’m on mobile and can’t manage to find the rules so I’m sorry if talking about this isn’t allowed. But I’m always misinterpreted. No one ever fucking just reads what I have to say in good faith. Even on subs supposedly for the disorder I’m a part of the stigma is so bad I’m accused of things I’m not even saying. I had some asshole come on my desperation post where I described how I can’t stop thinking about offing myself and feel completely alone, and my partner isn’t available and because of the way I said things decided to go “Well your partner isn’t supposed to be there for YOU they’re their own person”

Like I want to kill myself, and you’re being the most condescending version of helpful. I pointed out they were projecting, they were like I hope I’m not 💛 I told them to fuck off 💛 and I get my shit removed but their shit is totally fine.

I don’t want to be here anymore, at all. I do not want to wade through the absolute scum of the goddamn earth who think what they say is gods gift to humans just to find the few people who actually take the time to understand things instead of assuming shit and saying shit to me that just makes everything worse when I’m already incredibly obvious about how bad a state I am in.

Don’t fucking send the suicide hotline shit to me, it will not help and will only make me feel more like shit. Which, if that’s your goal, go ahead and spam it I guess. Maybe it’ll make me take the plunge. I’m fucking done with people.

Vengeful autism Evil mating rituals

I took my concussion to town yesterday for reasons and I went to Home Depot for some house stuff. They've replaced most of the checkouts with self-checkout. Those fill me with rage on a good day but concussion means small words are really hard so I have to go to the Pro desk and ask a man to check me out. Last time after checkout I was packing the stuff into my backpack and the man was just... Watching me. I told him "you don't have to watch me" in a mean voice. I get it, watching a pretty girl bend over is fun. TOO BAD. DON'T DO IT.

this time as I approached there were three men and as I set my stuff down at the closest checkout point, the man there says "that's a nice one" to his co worker and walks away. The co worker encourages me to come to his checkout. After I finish checking out he starts talking to me about bikes. Not even that he rides bikes, but some bike riding guy on Instagram. I try and walk away and he KEEPS. TALKING. I get it, I'm a "nice one" TOO BAD. EFF OFF.

IT'S A REALLY SHITTY FEELING WHEN YOU REALIZE THAT THEY ARE ALL LOOKING AT YOU, OBJECTIFYING YOU, AND TALKING ABOUT IT AMONGST THEMSELVES RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.

I will not be reading or responding to comments.

I DON'T GET IT *explodes* Life on hard mode WHYY??

Every single morning (ok maybe just 98% of them) I wake up with severe nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. It doesn't matter what I ate (or didn't eat). It doesn't matter that I sleep with an incline pillow. It doesn't matter how good the rest is. Every single morning at about 4am I wake up in pain and spend the next few hours on the toilet.

I am autistic, ofc, so this sometimes leads to meltdowns. Let me set the scene: exhausted me battles with my stomach at 4am, by 6am even with the best attitude I become dysregulated from being battle weary.

Now I have to settle my nerves, get food in me, and get to work by 9:15. I was a paraeducator for disabled young adults. I loved that job but would often have meltdowns there from the compounded stress of the morning and trying to do my job well.

I have been unable to work since April. My issues are no better. I don't know what's going to happen. I take several medications for mental health, and with the nausea I know I could end up dead quickly if I become homeless. I mean, being sick and starving out in the elements is bad for anyone, but I'm not the strongest dude... I get cold real easily, can't eat easily due to ARFID, and stress will make me crazy after not too long.

Why is this country (USA) so hard for us to survive in? I know it's hard for basically everyone, but I swear if I *could* work normally like NTs, I seriously would! It would be so much easier than battling these physical symptoms, meltdowns, and worrying about homelessness.

ETA: I've sought medical treatment several times. I had an endoscopy and they found nothing. They called it functional dyspepsia and wanted to prescribe an antidepressant. I didn't want to mess with my psych med cocktail so didn't take the "new" med (amitriptyline).

Idk, I just think these types of comments are super gross and honestly ableist. I don’t understand why it matters to others what someone does in their personal life if it’s not harming anybody.
