Babysitter

I will be in town for a wedding in August and I’m wondering where I can find a reliable babysitter. Any specific FB groups? I posted a couple places but haven't heard back. Appreciate the help!

SDGE vs CEA

Hey all!

I’ve seen people saying that opting out of CEA reduces your electric bill. I am still in CEA as I was automatically opted in. I noticed that the electric itself is cheaper than SDGE but the delivery fee is what costs a lot!

Apologies, I probably didn’t identify these programs or companies name properly too.

What’s everyone else doing?

Luv car wash

If your name is Alejandria Rodriguez & you visited the Luv car wash on broadway at some point in the past couple months you used my phone number to sign up for a membership so I’m getting your texts about billing. I also got a call about the prices changing so if I were you I would call to get it straightened out before you’re suddenly charged way more $. They gave me your license plate information & your name in a voicemail noting it was incorrect then proceeded to tell me my membership prices are changing so honestly best of luck because my communication trying to straighten it out hasn’t worked & I am still receiving communication intended for you!

I have a friendly/social medium sized dog and an indoor cat. We are in search of somewhere safe to stay preferably with air conditioning. Me: early 30s and typically away from home for 4-8 hours per day with work and school. I'm tidy and I love to cook for people.

Message me if you know of anything please

Help me pick two or three wineries to visit for a day trip from SD!

I live in San Diego - my 30th birthday is coming up (in late July) and I am thinking of doing a day (or after lunch day) in Escondido where me and 10-15ish friends can meet up and do a couple wineries! If you could only visit **two or three**, which would you choose?

A couple more details if helpful: :)

* Probably will keep it pretty casual - I definitely don't want to go anywhere super expensive, I know money is tight for a lot of us and I don't want anyone to feel like they have to spend a lot just to eat or drink
* I especially like whites and roses (like sauv blanc and similar) but will drink anything as long as it's not too sweet - and most people in the group are about the same.
* Not a dealbreaker, but would be nice to be outside/have a view - although I am worried it will be super hot in late July (if anyone has any thoughts/experience with that let me know)
* I think the last place we go, it would be nice if they had food as well, so we don't have to plan to find a separate restaurant - figured we might do an earlyish dinner, even something like pizza works - again we're not picky, just don't want to be spending like $100pp on food alone.

I think that's it - honestly even if you ignore all of that\^ TLDR is basically just curious to hear peoples' absolute favorites/can't miss spots! :)

PS i was originally planning on doing Temecula but for a number of reasons pivoted to Escondido!

Hi, I'm an intermediate bass player that has always been a bedroom guitar hero. I'm looking for a group or drummer to just jam out with for fun. I'm 34M if that matters.

Viasat Fiber experience

Originally posted this as a reply to a previous thread. Decided to make my own post in case anyone finds it useful.

I checked and ordered last month, based on a previous post I saw in r/Escondido. The SiFi/Motive physical install was on Fri 6/12, with Viasat turn-up scheduled Mon 6/15. They offered to turn-up the connection on Friday after they finished the fiber so I said, "Sure, why not". The install outside and inside went very well. Everything was clean and done properly. The first problem was with Viasat - since it was originally scheduled for Monday, they weren't ready and had to force the provisioning.

Turns out I was Viasat Fiber's first customer; never a good thing IMO. Had a couple guys show up bright and early Sat morning with cards and a balloon wanting a photo op with us. No thanks, but I got his business card and was told to let him know if I had any issues. I mentioned to him that I needed to have bridge mode enabled with a public IP for my firewall. Told me to call support and let him know.

I called support and ended up being told the ONT hardware couldn't do bridge mode. Uh OK. I know it can, since other ISPs on SiFi offer it with the same hardware. In fact, some allow enabling it directly on their customer portal. I wrote an email and let the guy know, so he escalated it internally and promised they'd get it working.

I assume most customers won't care about bridge mode. In my case, I'm retired from IT and run a part-time consulting business from home. I have business reasons for needing a public IP and I certainly don't want to deal with CGNAT + NAT on the ONT + my firewall. I don't care if the IP is static, I just need a public IP. (Sidenote, Viacom Fiber doesn't offer business accounts.)

Over the following month, they had to completely delete and start over on my account. The whole time, I was promised they would get bridge mode on the Nokia ONT working. The support was great, I have no complaints there. Everything was communicated clearly and they were definitely prioritizing the issue and willing to do a one-off setup of bridge mode. I was told it's a feature they plan to offer in the future but it's not ready. Everything seemed great and I was patient since I still had my Cox connection active. They covered all the costs and offered account credit to make up for the trouble.

Their support rep I was working with called me 6/30 and said they were ready, would turn on bridge mode that day, and she'd call me right after. I didn't hear back until 7/2 (uh-oh). I was told they couldn't get it to work because the back-end wasn't ready. She knew this was a dealbreaker for me, so she cancelled my account and said they'd contact me when (if?) they get it working. The connection is still live until later this month. At that point, I'll see if the two other ISPs listed on SiFi's site for Escondido can offer me service. (Lytwave and Anthem)

Random FYI items:

  • The ONT comes from SiFi and stays with your property, so you don't have to worry about returning it if you cancel.
  • I have yet to find a documented case of someone successfully replacing one of SiFi's ONTs with a SFP module.
  • I was able to log into the ONT's 'Admin' page with the credentials on the underside but there isn't much there, certainly not bridge mode. I have experience with AT&T's Nokia ONTs (different model) and it's nothing like that.
  • There's no IPv6, just CGNAT IPv4.
  • I was able to disable the WiFi, so it didn't interfere with my current setup.
  • 1Gbps symmetrical service I signed up for is $80/mo. 2Gbps jumps up to $120/mo (why?!) Going to 5Gbps is just $10 more at $130/mo. My wired network is 2.5Gbps but I don't think it's worth the jump to higher speeds. From my research, they seem to be the most expensive ISP on SiFi Fiber.
  • There's no data cap.
  • Multiple speed tests using an older Linux laptop with a 2.5Gbps USB NIC showed results of ~1000 Mbps down and ~800 Mbps up.

TL;DR: I signed up with Viasat Fiber and got installed a month ago. Service is now cancelled because they couldn't get Bridge Mode working on the ONT. No complaints at all about the install or customer service, but that may have been because I was their very first customer. The whole ordeal didn't cost me anything but time. I will look into a different ISP once service is turned off later this month.

Having issues with ticks lately?

Has anyone else noticed an upswing in ticks lately? Been finding them on my dog. They don't go off leash when on walks (only in our backyard). They are on credellio right now for fleas and ticks so I'm pretty sure they're killing them once they feed. Is there a pesticide that I can use in my yard that you find works?

Code violation... For weeds...

I received a code violation for weeds. Granted tall weeds but no different then multiple other houses on my street. Is this normal? I got behind on yard work due to other things taking up my time. Did a neighbor report me? Or will code enforcement really drive around looking for petty stuff and send out violations for weeds without a complaint?

Edit: my neighbor is selling their house. Seems like the dots are easy to connect... Also the weeds were not a fire hazard type of thing. The only yard work I did make time for was the fire prevention type. This was tall weeds surrounded by gravel and cement.

How much have wildfires affected you - particularly in Aug?

I lived in SD 25 years ago and return every 2 or 3 years but generally stay in the city or along the coast. We are looking at staying in Escondido during the last week of Aug. I’m from NY so I have little experience w wildfires but wanted to know if it’s unwise to go to Escondido for a week in August due to wildfire risk. - thanks

Senior Caregiver

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for a reliable part-time caregiver or caregiving agency in Escondido for my mom.

She only needs about 4 hours once a week, ideally Thursdays, for shower help, groceries, errands, and light household support. We’d prefer someone kind, reliable, and flexible enough to add extra help later if needed or events warrant.

Any recommendations, or places to avoid, would be appreciated.

Thanks!
