Am I doing this right?

Post image
Upvotes

I put a sensor in my baby's room because it stays hotter. I don't want to do it by occupancy so I set it to average out or whatever. I set it to 71 and the living room got down to 68 and the nursery only got down to 74. Am I understanding that right and doing this the best way? Is occupancy better? Even with a very small baby that might not be sensed as occupying?

PEK Installation: extra wires?

Hi all,

Trying to install the PEK. At my thermostat, I have G, W, Rc (w/jumper to RH), and two wires on Y, blue and yellow.

At my furnace, I have G, W, R, two wires on Y (red and blue), and a C wire that is not bundled with the thermostat wires and goes back into the furnace apparatus rather than towards the wall.

Any recommendation for how to tackle this or what’s going on? Any help is appreciated!!!

Ecobee

So my ecobee thermostat, which is maybe about two years old has suddenly started to reboot itself. Can anybody out there? Give me a reason why I had a service call today and they thought perhaps it was the condensation pump. It was not so, he said to keep an eye on it and if it happens again, let them know. Well it did happen again this afternoon when I turned the air-conditioning back on and it seems to go blank when the condensation line is dripping into the sink which is designed to do. I hope everyone’s understanding me but that’s my issue. Anyone get an answer

Question Any trouble with the new sensors?

I have been using the ecobee3 lite and use 2 room sensors with it that I connected to it 2 years ago. I bought a 2 pack last week to add more sensors but these new one’s will not pair at all.

Contacted support and they send replacements, but again it wont pair either. Ecobee says there is something wrong with my thermostat. For my amusement, I unpaired the old 2014 room sensors and paired it back with no problem.. Anybody with the same experience?

Hello. I installed the premium today and it will not turn on at all. I triple checked the wiring and fuse and all is good. My old unit was working fine with batteries before I upgraded to the ecobee. I’m not sure what else to do. Super discouraging .

Ecobe building age keeps changing to 1930s

I keep changing my home age to 1990s on the web portal and app but it will change back to 1930 later by itself. Is there any fix for this?

What happens if cooling is turned on on ecobee if I don't have AC?

I'm getting a kitchen remodel done, but I'm not home currently, and I see (on my app) that the contractor turned my ecobee on cooling set to 66F, but I don't have AC in my house. I do have central heating.

My utility company has an app for tracking electricity usage live, and it looks like this setting is using around 800-900 watts/hr.

Is it just from the fan blowing?

Photo of my Honeywell wiring which is correct and the subsequent wiring on my ecobee as instructed from support. Over the winter went back to Honeywell due to heating constantly on emergency heat instead of heat pump. What do I need to do to correct?

For the past two years, I have utilized an Ecobee thermostat to operate my heat pump. While it has functioned satisfactorily, I have recently encountered a recurring issue where the thermostat has inexplicably gone blank. I am unable to determine the underlying cause of this problem.

In my condominium, the condensation line is designed to drip into the bathroom sink. However, the thermostat appears to reboot itself when this condensation occurs. I would appreciate any insights or suggestions you may have regarding this issue.

The service technicians have indicated their intention to replace the thermostat. Nevertheless, I am uncertain whether this is the actual problem. I suspect that the issue may be related to the pump.

Fix for “invite link opens Add a Device page and does nothing” (Family Accounts)

Spent hours on this — deleted/recreated my account, rebooted, contacted ecobee support (no help). Wife's invite link would open the app but land on "Add a Device" and just sit there.

Fix: turn off WiFi on your phone and accept the invite over cellular data instead. Worked instantly for me.

I run a Firewalla firewall at home, so my guess is it was stripping or interfering with the invite token in the link before the app could read it. If you're on any firewall/DNS-filtering setup (Firewalla, Pi-hole, NextDNS, etc.), try cellular data first before doing anything drastic.

Is this normal cycling?

It's a brand new 3T in a 950sq ft Phoenix condo. They said it needed to go up to a 3T because there is a loft/vaulted ceilings. Overnight it runs in 5 min block then is off for 10 mins then runs 5 mins, all night long. Sometimes it will be off for 14-17 mins. Min runtime is set to 5mins. Temp dif is set to .5 but when I asked the tech about it he said that is fine and won't cause short cycling.

Question 0.9 degrees F / hour normal or poor performance?

Just got bee stat... I have a Mitsubishi ducted heat pump, one year old. Socal weather about 80-85 today. New R38 blow-in insulation in attic but likely 1950s insulation in walls.

From reading on the HVAC sub reddit it sounds like the ecobee doesn't get the full performance out of the heat pump.

If I switched to the Mitsubishi thermostat should I see that cooling performance 2x?

Are "Smart Sensors" junk?

I bought an Ecobee Enhanced and 2 smart sensors on sale. The thermostat is fine. One of my sensors was showing some crazy high temp, so I used the other one. It is sane, but I'm convinced they just don't work very well. I sleep upstairs which tends to be warm, so I put the sensor there and tried using ONLY that for nighttime. Compressor was running almost non-stop. After a few days, I went back to using the downstairs thermostat mostly, certainly at night. This doesn't get the room as cool, but at least my A/C cycles occasionally. I don't have a lot of confidence in these remote sensors and wondered if anyone else has an opinion.
"Follow me" is off. Eco Plus is off.

new ecobee premium shuts off early - multiple sensors

Thumbnail

I have disabled eco+, follow me, precool, comfort, and have only one smart sensor in the upstairs office set for all of my scheduled zones, which is usually 3-6 degrees warmer than the main floor where the thermostat is at or my downstairs bedroom sensor. I don't want an average temp, I want it to cool until the office is the temp I set - 73. From what I understand, just clicking the office sensor should accomplish this. But the a/c is shutting off at least 5 minutes early before my peak time at 4, if not sooner. When I log into the web app, it seems the temp gets changed to 79 at 3:55 even though that's not what's set in the schedule. It should be 73 and then switch to 90 at 4pm. And the app temps don't seem to match what I'm looking at on the thermostat because when I took the screenshots, it was 76 in the upstairs office according to the thermostat (which I believe because it was hot!). Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here? I don't feel like I ever see it get to 72, it just stops at 73. My temp differential is set at 1.

edited to add: just now, it shut off after 70 minutes even though it has another degree to go according to the app. I don't get it. What is right?

Problem Strange issue all of the sudden with what thermostat reports and what app shows

I just ran into an issue where I noticed it was getting a little warm in the house. I checked the ecobee app and it said it was at 72 and cooling, however the AC was not running and the thermostat was showing 74. I unplugged the thermostat and plugged it back in. Immediately it kicked the AC back on after booting but it’s now showing 80. It’s very slowly coming back down.

Is it showing 80 after a reboot because the internal sensors are trying to recalibrate? It’s real strange that it did the original issue. While typing this and researching, it has dropped to 78 without changing anything so it must be equalizing. The hole behind the thermostat has been sealed completely so the only heat is from the thermostat itself and the surrounding area.

Ecobee Thermostat and Condensate Pump Safety Switch

My experiences with condensate pump safety switches (wired through the Y terminal) is that the outside compressor will shut off but the blower motor will still run.

Wired one with my Ecobee today, and noticed that both the compressor and the blower will shut off when the safety switch trips. Is this normal? Does Ecobee call for cooling and fan together as one signal?

No problem if so, just want to make sure I didn't make a mistake with the wiring.

Reliance trying to upsell Google Nest thermostat

Hi, I just bought a home with a reliance rental tankless water heater and air handler. It’s a Rinnai system. I called reliance to inquire about smart thermostat. The sales person immediately said Google nest is the best option for me. I asked about Ecobee and they said that works better for heat pump systems and was pushing the Google nest. I don’t know much about HVAC but I know enough when someone is trying to sell me something that I don’t need.

Can anyone verify these claims? I don’t even care for the extra bells and whistles. I just want a system that works with iOS and I can control with Wi-Fi.

Best setting for humidity control

I have a Trane heat pump with an Ecobee 3 thermostat in Orlando FL. I’m fairly comfortable at home during the day with the thermostat set to 80. I have the Ecobee set for a 1 degree spread before the unit will run, so at 81 it brings it back to 80. I also have the fan set to run 10 minutes per hour, but I don’t think that activates since the fan runs more than that per hour to run the cooling. My issue is with humidity. It gets to 55% or more and only as low as 50% during the day. Is there a setting to help keep humidity lower without having to significantly keep the house cooler. I found a humidity setting on the Ecobee, but I’m not sure how that works. If I set humidity to below 50%, will it just run the cooling at full blast or would it use a low fan speed to reduce humidity without over cooling the house? Thanks.

Why can’t my thermostat stay smart?!?

My comfort setting for sleep only utilizes the sensor that we have in the nursery to keep our newborn cool. His sleep time still fluctuates based on his naps during the day.

I’ve made sure to turn eco+ and follow me off -yet maybe only 60% of the time will it kick on the ac based on the temp reading in the nursery when I set a manual comfort setting hold on sleep.

It will still show an average of my other sensors and the thermostat it self even though I am I’m sleep hold. Any thoughts?

Ecobee 4 REBOOTING

I’m getting this notification, “There may be a problem with your heating/cooling system which is causing your thermostat to frequently reboot. If your HVAC system uses an air filter, try cleaning or replacing it. If the problem persists you may want to contact ecobee support or a Pro to schedule an inspection”. Anyone know what could be causing it? Thanks

Problem Can't delete custom Comfort Setting

Ecobee Essential. There isn't a delete option in the app or the web UI. This is a custom (user defined) Comfort Setting, and isn't in use on my Schedule, and I have no Vacation setting.

Any solutions or workarounds?
