I know I'm not supposed to like the Brian/Kevin books. And I agree for some of them, but you guys should check out the BJ trilogy if you haven't.
Everyone talks about how thinking machines enslave humans in the Dune universe. In this trilogy though it's kind of a group of tech bros that use technology to enslave humans. They want to live forever so they install their disembodied brains in giant mech bodies to rule over the population.
The thinking machine takeover comes later. It's good stuff!
