The amount of time it happens is not a coincidence. Far to often Im driving and I am the last in a line of cars. There's a medium sized gap between me and the car ahead and someone squeezes right in. THERE IS NO ONE BEHIND ME! Why can't people wait one more car and then speed up to me. How often does this happen to other people?

I was exiting a parking lot and needed to go right. I was waiting till oncoming traffic passed and it was okay to make my turn. Then I see the car (marked X) approaching with their right turn indicators on. I assumed that meant they were wanting to go into the same parking lot I was exiting from. So I made my turn. I got honked at and the lady gave me a stare down while passing. She had turned off her turning light, turned it on again and then made a right turn into another parking lot about 50 feet away (I’m guessing she turned on her turning lights prematurely). So was I wrong to have made that turn just based on the turning light from the approaching car? Should I have waited longer. To be honest there were no other cars behind me so it wasn’t like I was in a hurry to merge into traffic, I could have waited.

Edit2: I just checked on Google maps and my estimation of 50 feet seems wrong. There was a 3 way intersection with traffic lights and then another turn into a parking lot. This is where the lady ended up turning into. So definitely after a traffic light and more than 50 feet. She definitely signalled way too early. But I still realise I should have waited and not assumed anything. So it’s my fault here. Lesson learnt.

Edit3: I’m not defending myself with the previous edit. In conclusion, I was doubtful before when I put up this question but now I know for sure that I was wrong to assume and made a risky turn. I’m a new driver and really appreciate everyone’s experiences and advice. I’m happy to learn to be a better and more confident driver.

My 17 year old son is behind the ball with driving. All his own doing by delaying the necessary requirements. Finally did his Driver's Ed & got his permit. Won't be able to get his license until just after his 18th bday with state guidelines. Here's the problem - he's terrifyingly bad!!! I'm not talking little rookie mistakes. I mean a public safety hazard! I've had him drive around a mostly empty college campus a few times. Doesn't stop or yield at the end of parking lot lanes OR even so much as look in either direction for cars, bikers or pedestrians. Just goes. Fortunately, again, mostly empty campus, but he's been scolded & told to treat it as if it's not. No improvements. When making right hand turns, he goes into what would be oncoming traffic instead of staying in his/the right lane. Stops 2 car lengths back from stop signs at intersections. If he doesn't stop that far back, he's giving me whiplash with an abrupt stop at a low speed. Can't park the car to save his life. If there were cars parked in either spot surrounding, he'd run the front bumper into the side of the already parked car and/or run the side of my car along the bumper of the parked car. Let him drive on a low speed (35 mph) 2 lane road close to home. Almost put my car in the ditch twice bc he was afraid of oncoming traffic, eventhough everyone was well within their lane. Someone please tell me this gets better!!!! Any advice or tips? I stay as calm as any one person can. But my blood pressure is through the roof while I'm doing the best I can to teach him. Maybe I'm a different breed bc my parents had us driving as kids on backroads & such. Different times, I know. I just feel like many things should be common sense or easily learned in a few short drive sessions. But nothing seems to be registering or getting any better.

I will never understand how it is humanly possible for people to be so unbelievably stupid to a point where they think that it is okay to swerve in and out of lanes of traffic all while driving at a high speed.

I was on the highway today and out of no where, some black suv comes flying through traffic and cuts through 3 different lanes at once (while going at least 100mph). Anyways, the driver of the black suv almost caused a bad accident as I witnessed someone in the right lane have to swerve onto the shoulder just to avoid being hit by them.

I see this type of behavior quite frequently (especially on TikTok when ppl post themselves cutting up in traffic🥀) and it makes me sick to my stomach because this is how innocent people that are just minding their business on the road (probably just trying to get home to their family), end up being involved in a serious accident caused by a dumbass that drives like this, and ultimately end up losing their life.

It seems that many people forget that having a license is a privilege and that it shouldn’t be abused.

How do I stop doing this? no exaggeration I do this usually every single time I have to go more than one place. I go to the first place, but then instead of going to second place I just go home.. It's starting to actually piss me off. And today I actually said "okay, I'm done here, Now I need to go to the store and not fucking drive home again" and then I drove home.

I've had this problem since I got a car but I never used to make it ALL the way home. Like I would start going the wrong direction and be like oh shit. But now it seems like I'm just getting all the way home, sometimes walk all the way up to my apartment before I realize. My memory in general has been really bad lately.. but google said this is normal. so wondering what ya'll do if you had this issue.

Hello everyone. I know this question has been asked many times, but I just can't find something that helps me. Whenever I make a turn, whether it be wide, narrow, right, or left, I never know when to start turning or how much to steer. I've been told that I make turns too wide. I am fine with executing the end of a turn where I reverse the steering and get into proper position in the lane. It is just the initial steering into the lane that I struggle with heavily.

I have been learning to drive for the past month, and I have not improved at all. Friends have told me that I will develop better judgement with time, but I do not think that my judgement has improved at all. This is the only thing that I struggle with HEAVILY when driving. If anyone can give me any advice beyond learning this skill with time, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much.

This week is my first time driving alone after not driving for about 4 months after I got my license. I have no confidence and constantly worry that I'm doing something wrong. I miss having my instructor in the car to reassure me.

It's so easy but so hard. I don't know how to explain it. I love driving, but it makes me anxious to the point of puking. Not while on the road, no, I'm fine while I'm driving, but when I'm not, I spend my time anxious about it. I'm worried about inconveniencing others and being perceived as a bsd driver. It's literally making me sick to my stomach.

I tried to reverse into our driveway when i got home today and hit my tyre on the sidewalk. I had to call my dad to help me in as I've done every day this week. I feel sick to my stomach with embarrassment and fear. I don't know if I can get out of bed tomorrow and do it again.

Hi all. I'm struggling to find anything on the internet, so hoping there is some traffic law nerd out there who can answer this for me.

Is it legal for a regular passenger vehicle to pass a semi-truck on a 2-lane (one each way) highway? i'm doing some research for a proposal in my local area based on a few fatal incidents, so want to get a better understanding so we can avoid careless driving.

My parents are so concerned about me driving at night and generally just panicking and telling me to wait like two weeks to better my driving during the day.

The way I see it is if I don’t practice, I’ll never get better? As long as I don’t get lost like the other day and remember my lights this time (oops) I’ll be fine.

If I stay on roads I know, I have no issues.

Plus there’s generally less people out at night. With exceptions with animals and such.

Idk any advice would be appreciated. My mom thinks I shouldn’t go 15 mins away in the dark tonight to go to my stepmoms. It’s not even that far. I know they can’t control me but I live with my dad and don’t want to be rude necessarily.

I just wanted to talk about something so I’ve been learning to drive for almost 3 months and I still haven’t gotten it. It’s making me frustrated cause my boyfriend got it within a month and My Mom got the concept of driving in a week. I drive with My Dad almost every day.

I’m still making really stupid mistakes recently the biggest mistake that I’ve made that I could think of is that a gas station I didn’t give the right away which My Dad had to tell me that person goes first
Also a couple weeks ago 1 July, actually I failed to give yield at a roundabout which I almost hit someone and had to slam the break because I was distracted arguing about directions I did work on that one my driving Instructor after the incident

but it still bothers me I feel like honestly I’m never gonna be able to understand or get it. One thing I’m scared of is turning to the wrong side of the road because that is something I’ve done a couple times once with my driving Instructor because I got confused about directions and they just didn’t click in my brain that of course I had to get on the other side of the road. No one was coming and it took two seconds to change.

One time which, when I was first learning, I would say my first month I panicked at a weird road and turned the wrong way, which I also had to correct quickly

But I’m still terrified of it. I haven’t done it since then. The last time I did it was June 17 with my driving Instructor but it just literally keeps me up at night just like what if you know like I do that again honestly terrified and again it’s just I’m trying to learn how to do all this stuff and it’s so confusing to me

my parents said I should be driving on my own by now, but I don’t trust it. I really struggle with reversing the car so I’m not gonna even attempt to drive anywhere by myself until I get the hang of that.

i’ve also cut people off before which I feel terrible about. It’s just frustrating me because everyone seems to get it so easily and I’m struggling.

Does anyone have knowledge of a past student receiving an email from the DVSA Counter Fraud Investigations team?
The email asks the student whether lessons were satisfactory, did they start/end on time?
Whether they would recommend me?Any issues with my behavior during lessons?

Hi all I’m a new driver(still learning) and recently got a car, I’m hoping to get my license by the end of this month or mid next month. What is usually on the written exam for California? Also any tips or suggestions when driving? I have a lot of anxiety which is why I don’t have my license yet but I can’t afford to get Lyfts/ubers everywhere anymore.

My driving instructor taught me this parallel parking method. Essentially, I'm supposed to drive up to the car on the side of the road until my mirror is at the middle of the car next to me, then turn the wheel all the way to the right. I back up until my mirror is aligned with their back light, then turn one to the right, back up until I can see a "triangle" in my right mirror, and then turn all the way to the right until I'm aligned with the curb.

I can't seem to always get the feel for it, and I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be looking for in my mirrors. Everyone keeps telling me I'll just get the feel for it eventually, but something's not clicking for me.

I don't want to try a new method since this is the only one I've ever tried, but does anyone use this method that has any tips for me? Is there a video I could watch that uses this method? Help!

Other info: I'm in the USA, I've got my driving test coming up, and unfortunately I can't practice that much because I'm from NYC and no one I know owns a car, haha.

The guy he reminded of wasn't even a jerk or anything, just completely unremarkable,​ but I still hate being watched and judged so badly it fucks up everything when I actually do get behind the wheel for the test, I've been postponing my third attempt because I feel so clueless what to even do about myself.

A friend of mine got rear ended on a dim back road last week. His dash cam footage was so blurry you couldn’t make out the other car’s license plate at all. It got me pretty paranoid, I drive those same kinds of roads most nights after work.

I need front, interior and rear coverage. Night quality is my top priority, especially for reading plates. Budget isn’t a huge issue, I just want something that actually captures usable footage when something goes wrong.

so, i recently got my learners license, nothing huge nothing crazy, but ive taken the bus for as long as i can remember, and whenever i had a phone and earbuds i would listen to music, but, i would always be able to freely change the song, playlist, whatnot, and i was thinking to myself, how do other people pick their music? do you guys make playlists? queue up a bunch of different genres? or do you just change the song while driving if you arent feeling it

The instructor wants me to accelerate by doing 1500 RPM and then clutch up. The problem is that I can't get it to 1500, its either 800 idling speed or 3000 RPM. Sorry, my foot is not yet any more precise than that.

So is it okay to accelerate with 3000 revs before moving the clutch up, or do I really need to master the gas pedal first?

For the purpose of my driving lessons and passing the exam.

I know I could do the bitepoint first, then gas method but the instructor doesn't want me to use that method.

So within the instructors method I got 2 options: 1. Focus much on the gas pedal and try to control the revs, which inevitably makes me lose focus on the clutch pedal and then the engine stalls. That already happened multiple times. 2. Accept that the engine revs hard and just focus on the clutch. That may work and prevent stalling. But the revs would be high.

So I don't really know what the best thing to do is here.

I've been thinking about my driving (and even my walking) habits lately, and I'm wondering if there's a psychological explanation for them. I'm not trying to justify speeding because I know it's irresponsible. I'm just trying to understand why it happens, because I don't think it comes from a lack of responsibility or an ego thing like most of my colleagues say.

I'm a part time professional driver or a chauffeur as some would call it. Whenever I'm on a clear regional road, I naturally end up around 10-20 km/h over the limit, and on highways I'll usually sit about 20-40 km/h over if the passing lane is open. I also hate having a car directly in front of me. If someone's doing the speed limit, I almost feel compelled to overtake them so I can get back to my own pace. I feel like they are slowing me down. The weird part is, if someone's already driving at the same speed as me or higher, I have no urge to pass or chase them. I don't care about being the fastest car on the road, I just feel the urge to maintain a certain pace.

It's almost like my brain gets tired if I'm stuck behind slower traffic for too long. I actually start feeling sleepy or less focused. On the other hand, I have no issue sticking to the speed limit in school zones or residential areas because somehow there I actually become conscious that my actions could hurt someone. It's mainly the long, open roads where I feel this constant need to go faster.

I've noticed I do the exact same thing when I'm walking. If people are walking slower than my natural pace, I'll instinctively weave through gaps or go around them just to keep moving at the speed that feels comfortable.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it possible that it could be a psychological thing rather than just a bad habit and could it likely require professional help?

NB: I am not encouraging speeding or justifying it, just looking for maybe a reason as to why it happens. Also, my apologies if this is the wrong sub or flair.

I live on a busy arterial road in South Burlington. I was always taught (in the UK) that one should never reverse out from a driveway or a minor road onto a major road. So with that in mind when I arrive home to park my car I reverse into my driveway so that my car will be pointing down the driveway towards the street; making my later exit much easier.

To undertake the reversing maneuver requires that I turn the car to be almost perpendicular with the sidewalk. That would then allow me to reverse directly into the driveway.

I always make sure I do this as quickly as possible to cause the least amount of inconvenience to other road users. It astounds me though that the vast majority of drivers using the lane nearest to my driveway find themselves unable to stop and allow me to make the maneuver. Sometimes I might get it a bit wrong and have to pull back into the street before reversing you again. The drivers I referred to do not stop. They just pull around in front of me. Why are they unable to stop for 5 seconds?

So Saturday night I was taken to a bar for my birthday. A lot of people were buying me shots and I stupidly wasn’t turning them down. By the time it was time to leave I was in a black out state and don’t remember walking out of the bar. I apparently got into my car and attempted to drive home. I woke up parked by my hometowns boat docks early in the morning. about 6 am. I 100% absolutely know i’m in the wrong for doing so. I don’t remember ever leaving. I remember being in the bar then waking up by the river. Do my friends that was with me care about me for letting it happen? I think at the very least I could have been followed because one friend mentioned I hopped in my car way too fast. I am just grateful I didn’t kill myself and more importantly anyone else in that situation. My friends seem to think they share no fault in letting me drive off or not following me to make sure I made it to wherever I was trying to go. What are your thoughts on this?

I decided on the SF Bay Area. I read on another subreddit that drivers are very polite and friendly there. So I have very high blood pressure due to the driving and drivers in my current location.

I want to say that i never had high blood pressure when I lived in Phoenix. It was so splendid and lovely there. I love and miss Phoenix and their lovely drivers.

I have health problems because I live in the most stressful metro area in the country and the meanest and most vile place too.
