Discussion [Ukraine] Fell to the dodgy 64GB Flash drive scam from far local store

So today at 2pm i bought an 64GB Flash drive in an store called Aurora UA in the first branch in the bazar, i never heard of "Touch&Go" assuming its a brand that doesn't know the process of making good flash drives.

At first the flash drive was working fine, but the time i ran f3probe on my Laptop with Linux for 2 hours (god how long) it just, died it became hot to touch and it struggles now even copying moving deleting files as well as partition operations sounds like it uses those "low quality nand chips" and thats why it gets so hot 60mbps speed as advertised is wrong its 40mbps which also means false marketing checked reviews of that dodgy thing online one guy actually tested it and it survived the stress test mine didn't meaning factory defect.

I realized it fell for the fake scam now im in shambles I have receipt packaging isn't really as intact though (looks unsealed) its too late for me to return it today ill do tomorrow.

dsadAs an advice from myself do not buy anything from Touch&Go brand fom stores near you they dont know what they are making, instead look for a reliable enough brand that can survive an f3probe and doesnt overheat like kingston sandisk maybe samsung or others.

Do you think i just did a mistake and wasted gifted 8$ on the dodgy usb flash drive?

Hey. I am just simply curious about how you guys store your favourite images & videos, and why.

And also, if some of you feel like they don’t really matter not long after you captured them?

Title: [WTB] Looking to buy memory chips / DRAM / NAND flash chips

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to buy memory chips, including DRAM, NAND flash, or other related ICs. Open to both small and larger quantities depending on the part numbers, condition, and pricing.

Interested in:

  • DRAM chips
  • NAND flash chips
  • eMMC / UFS chips
  • DDR3 / DDR4 / LPDDR memory ICs
  • New, pulled, or surplus stock, as long as the condition is clearly stated

Please DM me with:

  • Part number
  • Quantity available
  • Condition
  • Photos if possible
  • Asking price
  • Shipping location

I’m open to discussing pricing and can work with sellers who have verified history or references.

Thanks!

Discussion What's the most overlooked part of enterprise storage management?

In enterprise storage environments, the focus is usually on capacity planning and performance.

From what I've seen, the biggest headaches often aren't the things people worry about on day one. They tend to show up months later, after systems have been running in production.

What do you think is the most overlooked part of enterprise storage management, and why?

Discussion Do you still use a USB flash drive in 2026? What do you use it for?

I've read an article that says the usb flash drive is going extinct, but I still have 2 flash drives: one 16GB and another 32GB - the bigger one to store some less important data and the smaller one for casual use, such as quick data transfer and creating a bootable usb, etc. They are still useful to me.

Do you still have a usb flash drive around, and what do you use it for?

Guide/How-to Deleted the wrong folder from my USB drive.

I was clearing some old files from a USB drive this afternoon and somehow deleted the wrong folder. Most of it was just documents and a handful of photos I'd been meaning to organize later. As soon as I realized what happened, I unplugged the drive because I wasn't sure if continuing to use it would make recovery harder. While reading through a few older discussions, recoverit came up more than once, so it's one of the tools I'm considering. I just haven't done anything yet. For anyone who's dealt with something similar, would you scan the drive first or check anything else before touching it?

Storage Setup Looking for the best solution

Hey all,

Looking for the best backup solution. Something robust.

Problem:

I just need a robust storage solution for backing up files from my computers.

What i know:

SSD backups are not robust as they need to be powered on to ensure no data loss, so looking for a traditional HDD solution.

Thank you

Discussion Recommandations disques SSD externes pour stockage enregistrements

Storage Setup Best affordable photo backup workflows in this insane data storage market? (4k RAW files per Year)

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to set up a proper, secure backup system for my photography workflow, but I am hitting a massive wall with hardware prices.

Over the last 3 years, I've accumulated about 12,000 photos. Because I shoot in RAW, it's a decent amount of data (somewhere around 400GB–600GB). I started looking into standard "budget king" recommendations from older threads and videos—specifically the Western Digital Easystore 8TB desktop drive—expecting it to be floating around the $130 mark.

To my absolute shock, it's currently sitting at $380 at Best Buy. or correct me if I am missing anything

Given the current market, what is the most cost-effective way to safely protect a library of my size without dropping $400 on a single mechanical drive?

Are most of you leaning heavily into cloud solutions right now (like Backblaze, Google One, or Amazon Photos)? Or is it smarter to just buy a couple of smaller 1TB or 2TB portable external drives, mirror them manually, and hope the market normalizes in a year or two?

Would love to hear how you're structuring your backup workflows without going broke right now. Thanks!

Discussion Storage: YOLO it with aliexpress chineseium? or fork over the cash for established players?

Chineseium, in this context, referring to the myriad of random chinese manufacturers

Ill keep this short. I just need a few TBs of storage space for my plex library....and my current 3TB WD HDD is on its way out. Im hoping to set it up to be Raid1 but im not gonna be sad if i loose the plex library since i can retorrent everything.

I need NVME SSDs, i cant afford $600+ for samsung etc nor can i afford $400+ for used samsung etc

However, the prices vs capacity of some of the generic chineseium seems too good to pass up.

So are the chinese brands worth it? Or is the quality too poor still?

I had bought a 128 dogfish SSD off of amazon.ca for a old laptop in 2021, but it died in 8 months but i got it RMAed

Discussion Samsung SSD on LOQ 15IAX9E

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a 10 month old laptop and it has a 512gb NVMe Samsung MZAMX512HCLV-00BL2 OEM ssd. In the span of 10 months I had a total of 9.38TB writes and 33.5TB reads. I find it odd that my ssd health is at 86% given that my total host writes isn't that much. If it is not a bug or something, could it be my math calculation correct that my ssd has 67TBW endurance? Is that even normal considering I have a 512gb ssd?

Discussion External Drive Recommendations?

I got a 5TB WD that's giving some errors running in SMART so looking to replace it. But buying it new is $350 where I'm at and goes up every day. I've seen some decent deals on eBay but most sellers I find tend to be on the sketchy side as far as usage details go. Not sure if I should bite the bullet and try my luck with it or if I'm better off holding out. I got a couple larger drives for cold storage (one's missing redundancy tho) so this one's an external for more active use. Since even getting an internal seems like it's not happening.

Discussion Doing the actual math on S3 vs on-prem object storage for cold data

Ran the numbers on our S3 storage bill for data we access maybe twice a year (compliance retention, old media assets) versus what it would cost to run that on-prem with an S3-compatible platform. Even accounting for hardware refresh every 5 years, power, and a chunk of an admin's time, on-prem came out meaningfully cheaper for this specific cold-data use case, though obviously not for anything with real elasticity needs.

Cloudian came up as landing spots that would let existing S3-based tooling keep working without a rewrite, which was the main thing keeping us on AWS for this data in the first place, not wanting to re-tool our backup and archive scripts.

Not saying "leave AWS," just sharing that for cold/archive tiers specifically, the math is closer than I expected. Anyone else done this comparison recently with current pricing?

Backup External storage for MacBook. Need recommendations

Hello all, need recommendations for external storage for MacBook for backup purposes only. Total storage used is 30Gb around, including all files and images. So minimum storage capacity disk is all needed.

It is older version MacBook (2016 model) running smoothly, but I want to keep backing up to external device. It charges from C-type charger, and only 2 C-type ports are available.

Kindly suggest a solution for the same.

Discussion Is monitoring tools lying to you?

Is your SSD actually safe? You probably open CrystalDiskInfo, see that reassuring blue "GOOD" box, and close it without a second thought. But my latest hardware endurance test proves that these numbers are nothing more than a superficial, pre-programmed math equation.

These diagnostic programs don't have a brain or an AI; they simply blindly follow basic logic rules set back in 2010, checking specific firmware registers like reallocated sectors or media wear metrics. They completely fail to look at the big picture.

By isolating and torturing an older SSD controller with an aggressive cache loop, I’ve created a hardware anomaly that has completely broken the reporting logic of the internet's favorite monitoring tools. Despite massive internal data dropping, billions of logged failures, and a controller fighting for its life, the software says everything is pristine. Here is exactly why you can no longer trust your drive health software.
